Anyone listening?

OP posts:

At least Boris Johnson went through selection procedures. He was voted in as an MP and then by the Conservative party. Many people went along with him and inflicted him on the whole country .

Dominic Cummings on the other hand ... . So when he says either he or Johnson should never have been in power, I just wonder does he see the complete democratic deficit of someone like him being let do what he what he did in his shady rooms. With Cambridge Analytics etc. etc. .

Interestingly, he did say something somewhat addressing this yesterday. He talked about how our political systems are simply not set up for dealing with people who just lie. Who call things 'fake news' and, even when shown proof/video evidence of them doing something, say with a straight face, 'No, that didn't happen.' I loathe the man, but he (sometimes) knows what he's talking about.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 27/05/2021 16:08

Human psychology. People will naturally believe things that are akin to their own political or life views. Even if they previously detested someone. Once that person validates their own opinion they forget that.

You only have to look at some of the people attending protests of different sorts. Certain speakers or organisations that normally have very different moral standards. Suddenly appear together. Even if one group are racist or abusive. That is justified in the heads of other protesters because they are now marching for a common goal.

My own opinion is similar to the article in the i newspaper yesterday. I think it was called liar liar. Both sides are liars 🤷‍♀️

@Leonardsgirl

What surprises me most of all is that so many people seem to be taking Cummings' words as gospel. A proven liar, who made fools of us all last year, yet all of a sudden he's speaking the truth and everyone else is guilty. Utterly bizarre.
What surprises me more is that anyone listens to anything that Boris says. A proven liar.

Maybe it’s because he’s confirmed a lot of stuff we knew/suspected to be the case? You don’t have to like someone to recognise when they’re telling the truth. I can’t believe anyone is surprised by what he’s saying.
amicissimma · 27/05/2021 17:02

What was it The Queen said?

'Recollections may vary'.

fruityorange · 27/05/2021 17:04

@amicissimma yes that was a shitty thing for the queen to say about her grandson. I hate the polite way the upper-class English slate people. Just say you are a liar instead of patronisingly saying you are a liar.

It wasn’t shitty. It was bloody brilliant.

fruityorange · 27/05/2021 17:08

Why bloody brilliant? Because it is a typically English "polite" way of saying liar?
If anyone said that to me I would tell them to fuck off.

jasjas1973 · 27/05/2021 17:12

I disagree.
Because what DC said has said is backed up in part by CH associations, PPE suppliers, the death rate, the lockdown fiascos and allowing the Indian variant into the country, which not only risks a further UK lockdown but is going to cost the travel industry very heavily as more countries put restrictions on the UK.

Leonardsgirl · 27/05/2021 17:18

Jgw1 I don't believe Boris Johnson either - they are both proven liars. But I'm not rushing to believe Cummings to validate my opinion of Johnson. They're both self serving liars.

Unsure33 · 27/05/2021 17:22

Apparently the Times have done a fact finding article on Cummings revelations ? Anyone read it ?

Tealightsandd · 27/05/2021 17:29

Although it's clear Cummings is telling the truth - the facts speak for themselves - he's out of order for slagging off donkeys. Donkeys are gentle kind creatures. Brave and honourable too. So no, Dominic, it's most definitely not a case of lions led by donkeys. If donkeys had been in charge things might've been better.

Yes, read all The Times coverage today. Essentially it says that all the narrative about events is entirely factual. Where opinions may differ is where the blame belongs.

Likewise, although I am sure that some of what Cummings said was true, if it happened to suit whatever his warped agenda is.
DuncinToffee · 27/05/2021 17:54

Hancock just said his 'recollection' is that he told the truth about care home testing. That he commited to delivering the testing when they could.

Ian Dunt on twitter is an informative read.

Blossomtoes · 27/05/2021 18:02

This is interesting.

Surely that is the important thing. Cummings isn't stupid, he is not going to say things that aren't true in terms of the stuff that can be fact checked or people knew happened because that would undermine what he sees as his credibility.

AnnoyedinJanuary · 27/05/2021 18:06

I take ir you're ok to leave it in the past - you didn't lose any family members to Covid-19 then. If you lost someone to the virus because of the failed actions of this Government - maybe you would feel differently.

the80sweregreat · 27/05/2021 18:09

They couldn't test anyone back in March and April 2020. My friend phoned 111 late March 2020 and asked about testing for her symptoms. They said it wasn't available , just to isolate and so on.
The elderly and vulnerable were sitting ducks back then. Not to mention the people working there too as care homes can become ' revolving doors' with residents in and out.

We should have shut the borders as soon as we became aware of what was happening. We are always too afraid of offending people. New Zealand did the right thing.

Harls1969 · 27/05/2021 18:37

If it concerned him so much, why didn't he say anything at the time?

ScotsGranny2 · 27/05/2021 18:39

I sat and listened to the full interview and, although I was no fan of Cummings given his jaunt, I found that I agreed with almost everything he said as much of it was what people had said throughout the pandemic about the UK Government's actions.

Tbh - no! This falls into the same category as the really boring Harry and Meghan saga for me.😫😬
