Anyone listening?

@TheBobJog

Does it have to go on that fricken long?
It goes on that long so they all have a chance to finish their drinks in the pubs of Westminster and get into the House to vote before it stops.

I am only partly joking

newnortherner111 · 26/05/2021 16:01

He thinks the Prime Minister is unfit for the job. Anyone who remembers his time as London Mayor or Foreign Secretary knew that several years ago.

Walkaround · 26/05/2021 16:01

Surely Dominic Cummings is nationally known as the corrupt liar who arrogantly kept the nation waiting to hear him explain how his superior judgement led him to test his eyesight by driving his car to a tourist destination?! To be believable, his evidence should be that the Government must have something to hide for ever employing him in the first place and then keeping the tosser on when he had proven himself to be a bare faced liar on national television.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 26/05/2021 16:02

He really will not say a bad word about Sunak, will he? I wonder why...

Leonardsgirl · 26/05/2021 16:02

I'm always amazed when I watch these sort of interviews how utterly incompetent the MPs asking the questions are. Lots of closed questions and an inability to control the discussion. They come across really poorly, and rarely objective.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Zzelda · 26/05/2021 16:03

Will Matt Hancock resign?
Doubt it, why would he? We know Boris would never sack him

I dunno, around a year ago we were all convinced that Hancock's function was to take the blame and that Johnson would sacrifice him without a qualm if he thought it would help his own cause. And that's still the case. At the moment, he doesn't dare to, but I doubt that Hancock has ever felt particularly secure.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/05/2021 16:03

It is peculiarly gripping tv.

skodadoda · 26/05/2021 16:04

@Girlmama3

I don't understand the point. We all know they acted too late but it was over a year ago. Surely we need to move on and leave it in the past?
That’s exactly what they want. If they’re never held to account they’ll continue to get things wrong and we’ll be the ones paying the price.
Blossomtoes · 26/05/2021 16:04

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban

He really will not say a bad word about Sunak, will he? I wonder why...
Maybe there isn’t a bad word to be said. He’s always struck me as a beacon of competence amongst a bunch of fuckwits.
Misbeehived · 26/05/2021 16:04

Would never be a fan of DC but really don’t get how so many on the thread think “nothing to see here” or “sour grapes” his allegations are pretty serious, if true has had v serious consequences

Cakeofdoom · 26/05/2021 16:04

Dozza V Bozza - like comparing shit with vomit

TheoMeo · 26/05/2021 16:05

I would think Boris would be quite happy to be usurped from PM role - then free to make a mint on the public speaking overseas circuit.
DC is definitely gunning for him.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2021 16:06

I dont disbelief him. Trouble is that what he said last year will be held against him.
Plus the ( right wing) press will just dismiss it as a grudge match thing and not worth pursuing.

Dustyboots · 26/05/2021 16:06

around a year ago we were all convinced that Hancock's function was to take the blame and that Johnson would sacrifice him without a qualm

That’s because Cummings was still there then. Maybe he wanted Hancock out back then and nearly achieved it but was then kicked out himself.

TheoMeo · 26/05/2021 16:07

Rishi Sunak is good but I don't see him as leading others or having loyal followers. Boris had lots of practice as Mayor.

pinkearedcow · 26/05/2021 16:08

I honestly don't know how much of this to believe. The stuff about Johnson proposing getting injected with coronavirus live on TV seems really out there, but then again Downing Street's response seem to neither confirm or deny.

If Cummings has proof of the "let the bodies pile high" allegation that, in normal times, would be enough to bring Johnson down. But I don't think anything will topple the fucker.

Everyone who has lost someone to covid must be feeling awful listening to this.

tara66 · 26/05/2021 16:09

Is this what is known as ''scraping the bottom of the barrel''?

hamstersarse · 26/05/2021 16:09

The only new allegation really is the Carrie’s dog story.

Surely everyone knew:

  • Matt Hancock had no idea what he was doing
  • Boris would have never locked down unless forced to
  • we totally fucked up care homes

All that’s left is Carries dog

strangeshapedpotato · 26/05/2021 16:10

I'd agree that he lied about Durham. And he's arrogant - or at least was... his play at simpleton today is a bit unbelievable.

But as far as the beginning of the epidemic goes, everything he has said is true - nothing particular new there if you were willing to look before and put the pieces together. Sadly few journalists did, although there were a couple of good articles done on it, but none made the mainstream press.

But we are very tribal these days - most of those who voted for Brexit/Boris will blindly ignore any criticism of this government (it was the same on the other side incidentally with Corbyn).

So in a few weeks, Cummings' testimony will be completely forgotten too.

Incidentally though, the biggest fault at the start lay NOT with the government, but with SAGE. I don't believe that you can blame the government for following what they believed was the best scientific advice at the time. Boris's first fuck-up imo, strangely enough, was in the way he rushed exit from the first lockdown to deflect attention away from Cummings' illegal trip.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 26/05/2021 16:10

And surprise surprise he also lets Govey off the hook.

Hmm
Belindabelle · 26/05/2021 16:11

Best friends Gove getting a pass too.

Cummings wants Gove and Sunak as next PM and Chancellor. With Sunak taking over the top job soon after. Cummings will of course be back in No 10 in the real top job pulling all the strings.

IntermittentParps · 26/05/2021 16:11

And surprise surprise he also lets Govey off the hook.
Yes, properly squirming about whether Gove should take any blame, wasn't he?

theDudesmummy · 26/05/2021 16:12

@Girlmama3 So if someone made a serious error which killed someone, maybe a medical error by an utterly incompetant doctor, but it was over a year ago, we just "move on"? No investigation by the hospital or the police. No GMC involvement? Just move on??? The doctor just carries on as before?

And here we are talking about thousands killed, not one.

Dear God.

Blossomtoes · 26/05/2021 16:13

Surely everyone knew we totally fucked up care homes

Evidently not. I’ve had innumerable arguments on MN with people who defend the government’s policy on care homes.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2021 16:13

None of this is particularly shocking , but then I have taken an interest since day one.
It's nothing we don't already know but then mumsnetters is a mine of information about politics etc.
I'm not sure what he will achieve though. Unless Gove is paying him off to put Boris and co in a bad light.
Why they going on about eat out to help out?
Dominic looks like the kind of man who doesn't eat enough!
