I'm at work in my cafe in Bolton. 0 customers because the government have advised folk to stay away. Either close us down and give us a grant or stop telling people to stay away! This is the worst case scenario for us

wonderstuff123 · 25/05/2021 10:30

Hi, we'll join you from the city that never escapes lockdown.....Leicester.

Our city and it's residents are great but we're on our knees and this latest piece of guidance won't help.

Solidarity with you x

calamityjam · 25/05/2021 10:32

Thankyou I really don't want to have to close by this situation is not sustainable financially. I cannot live like this in limbo

OP posts:
SonnetForSpring · 25/05/2021 10:37

The government are being so negligent. I'm sorry you are having to experience this.

Frazzled2207 · 25/05/2021 10:40

I'm really sorry to hear - is so shitty. I think it's good generally if people are going to be cautious put putting out announcements like this on the sly without consulting local government/public health teams and not offering any support to businesses is just rotten.

I'm elsewhere in GM (also a business owner) and concerned this will spread once again.

OliveTree75 · 25/05/2021 10:40

I don't have anything to offer but I am so sorry you are experiencing this

NotBot · 25/05/2021 10:42

I’m in Kirklees, currently in a sold out softplay, it’s rammed (well, as far as restrictions allow).. I’m guessing people decided not to cancel their plans today.

Do you think people will actually listen? Or is it just a quiet, rainy Tuesday morning..

calamityjam · 25/05/2021 10:50

It's never this quiet, even in the rain. Everyone is aware of the number of cases and increasing hospital numbers around here it's as high as 1700 per 100,000

OP posts:
RedMarauder · 25/05/2021 11:10

I found out this morning that I shouldn't be going to Hounslow.

Nice not to bother telling people in London to avoid the borough....

RaspberryCoulis · 25/05/2021 11:56

We are in Scotland. Ms Sturgeon would quite happily keep us "safe" at home in our houses, not leaving, seeing no-one, wearing masks forever.

Katie517 · 25/05/2021 12:02

I’m surprised people are listening to be honest! If it’s anything like last year or when people were in “tier 3 and 4” people just make their own judgments. You can’t lock down whole communities especially when a lot of people are fully vaccinated just because some people won’t take the vaccine. That really isn’t anyone else’s problem. I really feel for you though OP as you are in a no win situation if people are being told to not come out but you aren’t being given financial support to close! I really do wonder when this is going to end! If vaccines aren’t the end point what is?

Councilworker · 25/05/2021 12:08

It's smacks of "this is terrible something must be done. This is something so let's do it" with absolutely no fucking plan or ideas or joined up thinking. That the directors of public health and the council's weren't even notified of this change is absolutely ridiculous. I am in a nearby council area in GM and have friends in Kirklees and Blackburn as well as Bolton and Burnley. I don't even know what this plan is supposed to achieve or who was informed. The reporting of how this became public knowledge seems to indicate an omnishambles. Again. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/coronavirus-live-updates-bolton-hit-20670433

whataballbag · 25/05/2021 12:54

Joining you live from my office in Blackburn.

Absolutely nothing different here!

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 25/05/2021 12:57

Sorry to hear about this another bloody cockup from our glorious leaders.

🙄🙄people with at least half a brain are listening, it's the others that aren't and you can't argue with stupid 🤷🏻‍♀️

@calamityjam. I'm really sorry you're in the position, this half way housecrealky isn't helping.

They were arguing about it all in the House of Commons earlier.

I think they didn't want to be seen to be treating certain areas differently, due to the tiers backlash last time, but were struggling to justify not going ahead with the May17 easings in the areas with low case rates. So they're saying they did say people needed to take responsibility and in places where case dares are high to be more careful. Which it sounds like many are. Great!! But they need to be funding places like yours. I think they're struggling how to do this without 'rolling back' the 'irreversible' (stupid to have EVER said that) road map.

Hopefully hospitalisations will stay low, vaccinations will keep rolling out and soon they'll drop the messaging.

I hope they give you some additional funding soon!! (Like today).

I know it's incredibly shit, but I don't know what a better choice is right now

FascinatingCarrot · 25/05/2021 13:32

Hi from Burnley!
I feel so sorry for the restaurants/pubs/cafes that are still open by the skin of their teeth.
Yet again they must be worried sick.

Aposterhasnoname · 25/05/2021 13:46

I am so angry about this I can barely speak. I’m in one of those areas, my MSOA and the ones all around us are low cases, it’s just one locality that has cases off the scale, so the entire LAA has to suffer.

I’ve got a holiday booked next week, in the uk because I’m a good conscientious citizen and didn’t book to go to Portugal even though it was allowed. I did as we were asked, again. As I did when when we were asked to get vaccinated, to test twice a week, to give up Christmas, then Easter.

Now I’m sat in my office in a neighbouring borough, with all my colleagues, who can go on holiday freely, while I technically can’t. All coming out of this together my fucking arse. This is lockdown by the back door, and I’m beyond furious about it.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/05/2021 13:49

I really feel for you - my business serves the events industry which has been effectively closed but not LEGALLY shut so I've had fuck all support since this whole saga started.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/05/2021 13:54

Afternoon you bunch of lepers Grin another Leicester resident here. So cheesed off.

OP - is really shit for small businesses. I do feel for you.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/05/2021 13:56

Actually, I'm sorry folks, my last post sounded very piss takey. It wasn't my intention.
I'm definitely cheesed off though. It's starting to feel like certain towns/cities will never really come out of this.

RedMarauder · 25/05/2021 14:07

The Work and Pensions Minister is a f**ing liar.

TheQueef · 25/05/2021 14:13

Boris and his gov are taking the piss completely.
It's just a convenient way for the Cons to govern in their own interests, Money and Media.
We can't keep voting for these nutters. It's like self mutilation.

halcyondays · 25/05/2021 14:17

Yes I think they really should be supporting businesses in Covid hotspots. Tbh I wouldn’t be going inside cafes if I was in one even if the Government didn’t put out “guidance” I think it’s very unfair that they won’t offer more support. I suppose they will be able to blame the people in these areas if the numbers go up further.

Frazzled2207 · 25/05/2021 14:25

You are very unlikely to get a refund for your holiday so if it were me I’d be going.
HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/05/2021 14:29

Hello from Lurgy Leicester, the city that may as well just have a dome built round it and give up now, we will never escape restrictions!

Sorry to hear about your business troubles, it truly is so utterly shit.

mightyducks · 25/05/2021 14:57

Sorry to hear that @calamityjam , I live in Bolton, work in Blackburn, feels like I am surrounded by it! I don’t think the weather is helping, it’s so miserable I don’t think people want to go out anyway, feel so sorry for everyone in hospitality in Bolton, you’ve all been through so much already
