Has anyone under 50 been able to move 2nd jab fwd online?

Hi

I gave my 2nd jab booked in for late June- exactly 11 weeks after my 1st one. Booked via nhs site. I'm 47.

I want to bring it forward a week as I'm due to travel for essential work to an EU country 2 weeks after that and I'm hearing that entry may be conditional on having had both jabs at least 2 weeks previously. Plus my employer has advised this and I'd like to be as safe as poss.

119 told me the booking system which they and the public use will not allow the under 50s to book a 2nd jab less than 11 weeks after the 1st. But the 119 Adviser told me anecdotally he knows of some under 50s who have managed to book less than 11 weeks apart on the system- said he thinks there may be a glitch for some people?

I'm just worried about cancelling my 2nd jab and not being able to rebook one sooner than the one I've got at 11 weeks- has anyone tried this?

Yes. Brought it forward from 11.3 to 8.3.

VaccineSticker · 24/05/2021 22:48

I and all my friends who had the AZ vaccine have moved the second jab to an 8 week gap. All under 50. HTH!

NothingIsWrong · 24/05/2021 22:49

I'm 43 and considering this, but worried that I will end up with a later date. The actual date is 9th June anyway which is only a couple of weeks so I will probably wait it out anyway.

Gertie75 · 24/05/2021 22:51

I had my 2nd AZ jab last week after 7.5 weeks, I'm 46, dh also had his done after 7.5 weeks.
Neither of us had side effects either which was great as we were both knocked off our feet for a few days after the first.

Londonmummy66 · 24/05/2021 22:56

Find a local pharmacy that's doing them (I assume AZ) and call and ask to speak to the pharmacist in charge of the COvid programme ours is pretty good at letting those who are more than weeks come in early if they have a good reason for needing the appointment.

TeeBee · 24/05/2021 23:08

Yep, I'm late 40s. Brought mine forward by 4 weeks.

@User27aw

Has anyone been to move a 2nd Moderna vacc to an earlier date?
I’d like to know this too!
LittleFarmHouse · 25/05/2021 07:20

That’s great to know - thank you!! I shall look into rebooking today! Stay safe everyone x

mrsknottschicken · 25/05/2021 07:26

I’m a bit conflicted about this. I’m tempted to try, because my second jab is not until the end of June, 11 weeks post first jab. But isn’t the protection better with a longer gap?

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 25/05/2021 07:38

Wow thanks for this! Just moved mine forward by three weeks and told my friends.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 25/05/2021 07:39

@mrsknottschicken I think the decision to go to 8 weeks was based on the balance of longer benefit from waiting longer versus greater risk while only partially vaccinated for longer. With the Indian variant spreading, I think the logic is that it’s better to get more people fully vaccinated more quickly because the net benefit is greater.

ElephantsNest · 25/05/2021 07:45

Maybe ask your doctors surgery? Ours has been good at fast tracking people if they have a specific reason.

ConnieDobbs · 25/05/2021 08:06

I thought the longer gap gave better protection (with AZ at least)? My area has pretty low rates at the moment so I'm inclined to wait it out. My second dose is due in July. I don't have an exact date yet as it was booked through the gp and they said they would send the second appointment details closer to the time.

MancyNitford · 25/05/2021 08:17

I've moved mine from 11 weeks to 8.3. The earliest date I could pick was exactly 8 weeks post vax, and there was plenty of availability after that date. I'm 49 and had AZ. I just want it done now so I don't have to think about it anymore.

Tatapie · 25/05/2021 08:29

I've moved mine (49) but now feel guilty! The advice is only for priority groups but the system allows you to move it and presumably it wouldn't if they really didn't want you to?! Another don't do it but you can do it from Matt!!
Anyway there's literally walk in a availability near me so hopefully all priority groups will be well sorted by my turn, now 8 weeks not 11. I work outside the house so that's my reason for wanting it sooner.

don't feel guilty. I moved dh's last night, 42. The system allowed us to. If they really didn't want us to do it I'm sure they could have arranged that the system wouldn't let you if under 50. The sooner we are all double vaccinated the better. There were appointments available.

Yeah with AZ I'd be tempted to wait it out if it wasn't the fact that we are very close, but not in, the Indian Variant areas.
fadingfast · 25/05/2021 10:05

I had this exact dilemma (48, AZ). My second jab was booked at the vaccination centre exactly 11 weeks after my first, which took me to early July. I cancelled that appointment online and then rebooked for 3 weeks earlier, in mid June. There were plenty of appointments available but all at 8+ weeks after my first. I wasn’t sure if that was the default timeframe. I’ve read that it’s best to get the second done within an 8 to 12 week window, so I didn’t want it any sooner than 8 weeks.

It's not best, it's what the UK unilaterally decided to do. They discovered that the protection might be greater as a result but this was just by luck. The jabs were tested and approved with a 4 week gap. I've just moved mine too, from 11 weeks to 8 weeks. I think because they are moving some people to 8 weeks it's opened to all to do it, provided there is some availability. I was petrified cancelling my appointment though Grin
LittleRen · 25/05/2021 10:52

I just changed DH booking 3 weeks earlier. He had AZ.

AppleDumplin · 25/05/2021 10:53

Well after hearing all your success stories I took the plunge and cancelled my 2nd jab ... and was delighted to see loads of availability from 8 weeks onwards in my home town- 2 vax centres now showing whereas when I first booked there was only our little Boots available!

Now booked for a 10 week gap rather than the 11 I originally had which means I'll be fully vaccinated 2 1/2 weeks before I'm due to travel for work, so pleased! Now just have to wait and see if the country I'm supposed to be going to will let me in!

I did mine via the GP so will have to wait for them to contact me, so we''ll see if it comes up quicker than 12 weeks.

My DH has his second booked for the first week in June, I think he will just stick with the date he has.

LittleRen · 25/05/2021 11:13

@poppycat10 you can still book your 2nd via nhs website.

LittleRen · 25/05/2021 11:13

If you wanted to that is Smile

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2021 11:14

I’m 57. I couldn’t move mine, and not have l heard anything from the NHS despite Boris telling me they would be in touch.
