Has anyone under 50 been able to move 2nd jab fwd online?

Hi

I gave my 2nd jab booked in for late June- exactly 11 weeks after my 1st one. Booked via nhs site. I'm 47.

I want to bring it forward a week as I'm due to travel for essential work to an EU country 2 weeks after that and I'm hearing that entry may be conditional on having had both jabs at least 2 weeks previously. Plus my employer has advised this and I'd like to be as safe as poss.

119 told me the booking system which they and the public use will not allow the under 50s to book a 2nd jab less than 11 weeks after the 1st. But the 119 Adviser told me anecdotally he knows of some under 50s who have managed to book less than 11 weeks apart on the system- said he thinks there may be a glitch for some people?

I'm just worried about cancelling my 2nd jab and not being able to rebook one sooner than the one I've got at 11 weeks- has anyone tried this?

Ooh this sounds promising! Thank you for your responses.

It's Astra Zeneca I had, so hopefully there might be some earlier availability for me- I'm happy to travel a bit further too if it means I can get it 2 weeks before I travel.

@Totallyaddictedtoshoes

I want to do this but I'm worried as the nhs site says you have to cancel and rebook and I'm concerned I'll end up with a later appointment!
This is exactly what I'm worried about!

I have literally just done this. moved from 11 weeks to 8 weeks. There was loads of availability. I am in Manchester if that helps anyone! AZ too.

Can I ask what age you are? Cos I could travel to Manchester if there's availability there.

Thank you for this nudge - I was just able to move mine from the 21st of July MILES from my town, to the 30th of June a 5 minute walk away!

My 1st dose was the 5th of May, so that's a 7 week gap instead of a 10 week gap (give or take).

crosspelican · 24/05/2021 16:47

There was lots of availability, btw, and whereas there was nothing within 30 miles of me (!!!) when I originally booked my 2nd appointment, now they had 2 locations in my town and lots of other ones in the region, and as much availability as I wanted.

I was also nervous about cancelling and rebooking, and potentially losing my spot, but it was fine.

crosspelican · 24/05/2021 16:48

(early 40's, Astra Zeneca)

Ooh right dh in similar scenario will try this.
WombatChocolate · 24/05/2021 18:45

You do have to cancel before you can re book. That is correct.

My DH was at the 8 week mark and after a week of over 50s being told to get jabbed sooner, decided to see if he could move his.

He did have to cancel the existing one which was very local. He was then offered appointments from 2 days off. They were not as local and meant a longer drive (40 mins ish) but he booked one of those so will be done about 3.5 weeks sooner. He deemed the inconvenience of a 2 hour round trip (including jab time) to be worth it for the sooner protection ....what’s 2 hours in the scope of life eh...I often spend 2 hours in MN wasting time!

Couple of tips.....if cancelling to move appt forward, don’t do it just as a rollout to a new group is happening and thousands are online booking. If worried about losing the existing slot and it not being available anymore, do the cancellation late at night or early in the morning when the site will be quiet and your cancelled slot will be very unlikely to have been taken by someone else in the few minutes it takes to look and see if there is something else better. You can then rebook your existing appointment if there’s nothing better.

I'm 40. I'm going to the etihad campus.

Backofbeyond50 · 24/05/2021 19:07

Yep

Teatotally · 24/05/2021 19:20

I'm late forties and decided to risk it after reading on here that people had managed it as original date clashed with work. Managed to move it forwards by 9 days. There were appointments every day for two weeks before available and at all time slots. I didn't receive the text to confirm the new booking until a couple of hours later (should have taken a screenshot but forgot) so panicked and phoned the helpline. All fine and booked in, it's just taking a while to get the texts out as the system is so busy according to the helpful lady I spoke to.

sarahin2021 · 24/05/2021 19:23

Anyone had luck bringing forward Pfizer? Mine clashes with my due date but it was all they had at the time!

Oligodoodle · 24/05/2021 19:55

Am I missing something? Is there a specific reason so many want to bring their second doses forward other than having fuller protection sooner?

WombatChocolate · 24/05/2021 21:09

Yes, just want the fullest protection possible sooner. Supply is now up, so it’s possible to get it done with a smaller gap between doses. Many people booking 1st jabs are finding the dates offered for 2nd are around 8-9 weeks and not 12 now too.

Gov are emphasising that you’re not fully protected until after 2nd dose. Don’t know if that’s just because of Indian variant (although news about that seems to be improving) or because they have more supply so can bring it forward, which will then mean more 1st jabs can also happen sooner and they can beat their targets. Just seemed worth bringing forward if it was available, even with a bit more travel needed to get it 3 weeks sooner.

person6743 · 24/05/2021 21:22

I have a holiday booked I'd like to save money on testing by being double vaxxedGrin

SoThisisMe · 24/05/2021 21:23

Yes. Early 40s AZ, moved mine a few days ago, is now an 8 week gap instead of 11. Quite a few date options available in both my closest centres.

User27aw · 24/05/2021 21:28

Has anyone been to move a 2nd Moderna vacc to an earlier date?

ceeveebee · 24/05/2021 21:32

I’m 45 and I’ve just today cancelled my 2nd appointment and rebooked for 3 weeks earlier and at a nearer centre. I’m in greater Manchester and had AZ

CryMeAnAquifer · 24/05/2021 21:42

YES! 38 here, I had AZ on 23rd March. Was due 2nd on 14th June. I cancelled my 2nd dose on Saturday and brought forward to... Sunday morning!

Frazzled2207 · 24/05/2021 21:53

just done it now for 42 yo DH. AZ. Brought forward to almost exactly 8 weeks.

sarahin2021 · 24/05/2021 21:54

It didn't work for me - the earliest date it offered was the one I already had :(

LittleFarmHouse · 24/05/2021 21:58

Hi! Has anyone cancelled their second AZ and ended up with a later date? Or had difficulties? Thank you!!

Monkeytennis97 · 24/05/2021 22:11

Yes I'm late 40s and had 2nd vaccine today 9 weeks after the 1st. Rebooked it last week, it went wrong but once sorted all went ahead.

Frazzled2207 · 24/05/2021 22:13

when I did it just now for DH there were literally loads and loads of options, far more than before tbh. Moved it from the end of july to end of June. Greater Manchester.
