How long before the bribes start?

In regard to the vaccine.

We’ve seen how this has been working. After a while the Government starts throwing ( printed) money at the issue.

I’m guessing once each age group has become eligible they’ll start back creeping down the ages offering some sort of bribe to get those not yet vaccinated in for theirs.

I think you're wildly overestimating the financial generosity of the Tory government really.

Much easier to eventually just make life untenable for those that haven't had it. No jab, no job etc

I'm sure they'll be able to encourage without spending a penny

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/05/2021 19:13
Hmm
eurochick · 22/05/2021 19:14

I think it'll be stick rather than carrot - making it really difficult to live any kind of interesting life without a vaccine passport.

partyatthepalace · 22/05/2021 19:14

I think they will mostly just make life difficult without it

VaguelyInteresting · 22/05/2021 19:15

Nonsense

Anyway it will be stick not carrot that works with vaccination. If you’ve not taken it, there’s probably a reason that a paltry bribe won’t be enough to outweigh.

XenoBitch · 22/05/2021 19:16

Probably cut benefits for people on them that wont get the jab. I hope that does not happen, but I have seen it suggested by people in favour of mandatory vaccination.

Smallpox vaccine was compulsory... people were fined if they did not get their babies vaccinated.

OneEpisode · 22/05/2021 19:17

It’s only what.. one in a hundred refusing? With more hesitancy in younger groups, which may pass. No way they are spending money on this…

Passionfruitpizza · 22/05/2021 19:19

Agree with others. Any incentive will be of the stick variety.

PlanetOfTheApesLives · 22/05/2021 19:28

Maybe it's a good idea to get vaccinated?

I mean they do actually work... history shows us with smallpox, diphtheria, thyhoid, polio,

What way out of this mess would you suggest if people all said no to vaccination?

savethegrannies · 22/05/2021 19:36

They will just make taking part in activities, travelling abroad and possibly working quite/very difficult. As well as encouraging your fellow citizens to treat you like a social pariah.
Nothing too drastic.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 22/05/2021 19:37

The Torys are scum, this has been planned for years, our freedoms gone regardless. People need to wake up!

Local TV news the other day suggested that the response rate for the under 40s in the area was struggling to reach 40% at that point.

And yes I suspect they’ll eventually make life difficult by making the passports mandatory etc I think they’ll try some sort of positive reinforcement first.

Are you saying they planned a global pandemic years ago?

That would be the most successful secret operation in the whole history of the world. Can you expand some more on your thinking?

Dustyboots · 22/05/2021 19:42

I think that in the not too far off future. Perhaps a year ... they’ll give up with Covid vaccines.

I think the huge number of variants will make it impossible to control with vaccines.

OneEpisode · 22/05/2021 19:43

Completely unconvinced that BoJo is organised enough to plan a worldwide hoax. Younger people aren’t all rushing to take vaccine appointments, but as they get more info and more convenient, they will…

Myalternate · 22/05/2021 19:53

If ever this or any government tried to take my freedom from me and mine, I'd move to another country. 👍

TheKeatingFive · 22/05/2021 19:54

It’s an interesting question. I tend to think carrots work better.

I was intrigued to see Israel offering Machiavellian tricks like free pizza and beer with every jab. I expect that would work with at least some of the younger generation.

lunar1 · 22/05/2021 20:30

I think ultimately other attractive destinations will be the insensitive people need, I know someone who was practically rabid about not getting it. Massive daily rants about it on SM. She's just had it as she's worried she won't be able to go to Dubai at new year!

Remembering my student days, we all would get in line fo free beer and pizza! 🤣
MRex · 22/05/2021 20:45

We really aren't in a position in the UK of so few taking up the vaccine that it's a problem; softer steps will be enough. Once holiday travel is allowed some of the refusers will find they want the vaccine anyway to go to Spain or Greece.

The bigger issue is low vaccination rates in other parts of the world. Highly vaccinated countries will help to serve as proof that vaccines work.

So much paranoia about the government, but if you can’t travel abroad without a vaccine it won’t be because our government won’t let you go, it will be because the other countries don’t want you.
Doomsdayisstillcoming · 22/05/2021 21:00

They won’t need to.

byvirtue · 22/05/2021 21:01

How long are vaccines realistically going to go on for? My friend is a nurse and is doing vaccine shifts on top of the day job. She’s fed up, she said it felt like they were making a difference at the start now she’s essentially a vaccine robot asking questions and vaccinating non stop. She’s had enough. I think they will offer the vaccine to everyone then we will see the old and vulnerable provided with boosters (annually??? Let’s face it no one knows yet). Anyone else will need to pay for boosters privately. Ultimately under 50s aren’t high priority, vaccinating them doesn’t “save lives” only reduces cases.

@byvirtue my sympathies to any HCW right now, but just because she's fed up of vaccinating people, that doesn't really translate into them not making a difference

What's making her think that?

byvirtue · 22/05/2021 21:25

Her point to me was she can’t carry on vaccinating indefinitely. I have another friend who works in a vaccination hub (a pharmacist returning from mat leave) she is contacted for 4 days but is working 6 days a week with 2 young children. The work load is not sustainable long term. Many health care workers are going above and beyond to vaccinate but they won’t carry on forever.
