Isolation restart after each positive?

My son tested positive at weekend. We were due to come out of isolation on Thursday but 5 days later his brother has now tested postivie. We need to add another 10 days on don't we? And another if the rest of us get it? So far me and husband are negative. We are supposed to be moving. So stressed.

Believe it or not you don't! The one who has tested positive restarts his 10 days, but as long as you and your husband remain symptom free then your isolation ends on the original date it would have. I have spent the last 10 months dealing with this in student accommodation so I am very certain of how this works. The attached photo also explains it well.

For what it's worth, we have been encouraging our students to take a lateral flow test on their first morning of freedom as long as they are still symptom free just to give them and us extra peace of mind.

Similar happened to me and I was told only my Ds needed to extend his isolation. Everyone else could end as planned if no symptoms. I think you only restart isolation if its after the initial 10 days. I rang test and trace twice to double check and they said that was correct

Sorry. That is an old version of the photo. Please read "10" for everywhere that it says "7."

Accurate version attached. Smile

You might be surprised. I know of many households where some have gotten ill and others living with them have been fine despite not social distancing from the unwell person. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

What is day 1? The day you get sick or have a positive test- or is that day zero?

DriveInSaturday · 22/05/2021 22:57

Day 1 is the day you get sick, not the day you have a positive test..

JackieWeaverIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/05/2021 23:53

The day you get sick (or get a positive test if asymptomatic) is day 0 so you isolate for that day and the next 10 days. You can then go out at one minute past midnight at the end of the 10th day.

Thank you- very clear!

No problem. After the last 9 months "Covid rules" and "Covid six degrees of separation" could be my specialist mastermind subject! Grin
