Watched tonight's conference 17/05/2021 featuring

Matthew Hancock lying twat
Jvt _ quite like he seems know it shit and is honest yet goes along with the shit show.
Dr Jenny Harries she never convinces me!

Tonight Press conference i think is to put postive spin on Indian varient.
To reassure us they literally monitoring our shit for covid.
Surge testing
Now making up vaccine priority list as they go along.

Jvt reminds us 1st dose takes 21 days take effect so emergency vaccines in hot spots this week may not make the difference.

Matthew cocky Hancock im so knowledgeable , confident, watched contagion i feel convinced our usual playbook will work against the Indian varient thats 50_60% more transmissible!.
Yet mid went back to well the old restrictions would have worked if only that Kent varient wasent more transmissible.

Let's not get started on how they say do go on holiday but don't.
Flashback to if you can work from home do but if you can't then don't.
No wonder whitty buggered off on holiday and bojo praying doesn't get worse and lying low.

Not totally sure reason for tonight's show?
Encourage vaccine take up.
Scare people
Stop people going away.

I concludes nope don't trust them
This will easily spread and get out of control in the small areas they choosing to surge test.
As for vaccination that was bit vague.
I belive we on 36 old eligible right now.

Biggest spread of virus in Bolton is under 40s.

I'd say it was a shit show, but... Grin

rosie39forever · 19/05/2021 20:04

And don't forget you can go on holiday but don't go on holiday 🙄
Honestly I'm not watching any more of this gaslighting nonsense, it's all about abdication of responsibility now, it's all the public's fault for not doing what they're told ffs.

They do right to rein in the panic on the Indian variant a bit IMO.

But yes otherwise it sounds like standard Tory "personal responsibility" (so it's all your fault if things go bad) fare.

SonnetForSpring · 19/05/2021 20:25

Yes, couldn't agree more. They know people have had enough of rules so they are going down the personal responsibility route. Won't end well. Not much any of us can do.... just got to let it play out I suppose.

SonnetForSpring · 19/05/2021 20:26

Also because they haven't actually closed things, they don't have to subsidise with furlough etc. So you can book to go to Amber destinations but don't etc etc.

BoomChicka · 19/05/2021 20:33

Just stop watching them. I stopped around May last year Grin. I honestly could not care less what the media drivel of the day is. I don't know anyone who's had covid for months, the pubs are open, I can go shopping and take dd bowling and swimming, I've got weekends away booked.. covid is pretty irrelevant to me at the minute.

So what is you want, then? You don't like being told what to do - too much Government oversight - and then when the Government says it's up to you you don't like that either! You either take personal responsibility - or you don't.

Mintjulia · 20/05/2021 03:05

@theclaws exactly. It's really not hard. Portugal is green for holidays, other places aren't as safe so only essential travel, business and family emergencies. Quarantine on return. No guarantees.

rosie39forever · 20/05/2021 06:55

You misunderstood me I do want government oversight but I want competent clear messaging not this mixed message. I want grown ups in charge who make tough decisions for the good of the people not this wishy washy well you can all make your own decisions.
For what it’s worth I don’t think anyone should be flying off anywhere but this shit show of losers we call our leaders are too gutless to make that decision.
Obviously the sarcasm from my original post didn’t translate well.

It's the Tories, so you always have to follow the money.

Furlough cost them a crap load, but not as much as a complete break down of society and the NHS would have done in the first and second waves.

At the moment, there are enough people vaccinated and the cases are low enough, that it's worth a few more cases to get the economy moving. They'll review it before they fully reopen.

The holiday thing is so private individuals have to suck up the cost of the holidays if they miss them, so the government doesn't need to give any more handouts to the travel industry.

Leaving India off the red list was so they could secure trade deals before putting it on.

Always follow the money...
