So after making many threads adamant I wasn't going to have the second jab, I went ahead and did it tonight and am feeling super scared. I will document how I feel. Feeling super scared and I know I will for 3 weeks. Any support is welcome.

OP you're having an ordinary reaction to an extraordinary situation we are all in right now. I'm more concerned about the people having zero anxiety because they probably haven't grasped the situation.

For the very tiny few who suffer side effects they know now how to treat them. It's no longer a mystery like it was in the beginning.

Do all your favourite things that help you to relax. You've got this Thanks

@NicoleKidmanSuperFan I’m pleased you are getting professional help. Seeking reassurance comes in a multitude of ways, including support seeking by making multiple threads about the second jab.
I am very happy to support people on MN and have done about different topics for many years under many usernames. However as someone with experience in this area it is apparent that offering you reassurance over the covid jab wouldn’t be helpful. So I’ll bow out now.
FWIW I’ve had mine Flowers.
@user19097527484949 I didn’t. I clearly said anxiety, which they have clearly said themselves they have sought treatment about, or ocd.
I’m not diagnosing anyone.
I just think people on here need to be careful when calling others out for having big mental health issues. When actually it's quite normal to be pretty anxious about everything that's going on. You didn't do that. But I see it time and time again. People telling others they have mental health issues and need to be medicated, because they're anxious about covid.

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 17/05/2021 23:14

@Lazierdays I appreciate your kind words.

@AppleJane @user19097527484949 thank you for the support. I have friends with zero anxiety having anxiety over this whole jab and pandemic situation. Maybe even more so as I'm used to having anxiety but for them it seems almost as if the pandemic has triggered something new for them.

I've cancelled my second AZ but I'm glad you've done what's right for you.

But what I would say, is that if you 'document it' on this thread, you're going to fuel yourself obsessing over every little symptom and it's going to be the longest 28 days of your life. It's done now - so try to stop thinking about it and distract yourself as much as possible.

AppleJane · 17/05/2021 23:21

I agree with @user19097527484949 it's too simplistic for people to label this as a mental health issue.

Many people see danger where others don't. A child running down the street near traffic etc. It's good to recognise situations that cause anxiety, we just have to learn how to deal with that anxiety so it doesn't become out of proportion. For me personally I don't get reassurance from people telling me 'you'll be fine'. I prefer them to say 'I know exactly how you feel and we'll get through this together' Smile

MiniMaxi · 17/05/2021 23:25

Support from me too @NicoleKidmanSuperFan - I suspect I’ll be in the same boat as you in a couple of weeks.

Would it help distract you to say that I saw Nicole Kidman at a farmers market once? The guy selling her goats cheese did a hilarious double take! Grin

For me what helps is what you said and also looking up statistics and realising that I'm more likely to die by being hit by a bus. But I understand that approach is not for everyone.

Honestly OP, it's so unlikely you'll have any problems. But it's not surprising you're anxious.

AppleJane · 17/05/2021 23:31

@user19097527484949 it's good if that works for you, the important thing is you've found what works! Unfortunately it wouldn't work for me because I buy lottery tickets (which is hoping something rare will happen!)

Maybe talk to your friends with zero anxiety, then? I don't think a thread on here deliberately seeking out people panicking like you is helping you at all? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pinchoftums · 17/05/2021 23:34

I was worried but have been absolutely fine with my second (floored by my first). Loads of my friends have been the same. Well done you will be grand ☺️

WhipperSnapperSteve · 17/05/2021 23:38

@PineappleDreamer

Maybe seek help for yourself anxiety of it's this crippling? What on earth do you think will happen?

I'll say one thing for this pandemic - it's really brought out some people's OTT behaviour. However if you're genuinely this anxious, it's time to see help

Severe anxiety is no laughing matter. Even with medication and therapy anxiety spikes still happen. OP clearly had anxiety through the roof (have seen another thread) and it's a massive achievement for her to have gone and had it done. She deserves support and well wishes, not someone focusing on the negative aspects of crippling anxiety. Well done @NicoleKidmanSuperFan 👏

Well done for getting your second dose. I think making the decision and going for it, is half the battle.
You should be getting some relief from having made the decision and having got it done, enjoy that relief and feel rightly pleased with yourself.
From now on, please feel free to ask for as much support as you like on here, all the sympathetic understanding people will not mind how often you appear!
From now on, if I were you, I would completely spoil myself, with food and drink treats along with distracting myself from any worrying thoughts with loads of great TV :)
I may be on here like yourself asking for support soon!
Take care x

gleegeek · 17/05/2021 23:44

Hi OP! Well done for getting jab no 2! I had mine at lunchtime today too Smile and I have health anxiety as well.
The dr said very very few people get symptoms with the second anything like as bad as their first. She said keep an eye out day 4/5 for a headache unlike any headache you've ever experienced before (not like migraines which I get ) and get help. Otherwise no worries at all (her words). Soooo hopefully that reduces the time frame to be anxious to under a week which seems a lot more bearable!
So far I'm a bit headachy and tired but that's it, I was poorly for about 5 days with thr first jab but still glad I'm done.

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 17/05/2021 23:49

Oh thanks so much guys, the last few posts have been lovely. Thank you for the advise on day 4/5. I think I'll also feel better in a weeks time. I really do hope it's true about second vaccine having less side effects. I wasn't so bad with the first so hope it doesn't try and be horrible to me the second time Grin

Anxiety especially health anxiety is a right bitch. All rational out the window at times. For me it was talking again to my GP who was very encouraging.

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 17/05/2021 23:53

@MiniMaxi ohhh that does help! How very interesting! Was that in London somewhere? If I saw her at a farmers market I'd probably freeze and try and pretend I didn't notice. I somehow would find it hard to go up to a celeb for an autograph. Saw Simon Cowell once and accidentally congratulated him on his baby girl. Totally messed that one up and have learned my lesson Grin

OP posts:
NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 17/05/2021 23:54

Simon cowell was in the food court in Harrods when this happened! He's also a very short man!

bumblenbean · 17/05/2021 23:58

Hey OP, just responding to your post on the other thread ... I had mine Saturday evening so I’m only on day 2. Feel fine now, some minor side effects last 24 hours but not as bad as first time.

I have heard some mixed messages re time frame - a lot of stuff suggests around day 4 is when any clot problems are likely to materialise but the general time frame seems to be up to 28/30 days. I’d like to take the 4 days as gospel as that’s a much more manageable timeframe 😆

I think the only way forward is distraction and attempting to ‘sit with’ the anxiety / thoughts when they arise. Ive been reading a lot and watching random Netflix stuff and actually working today was really good at taking my mind off it. Have you got much planned for the next couple of weeks? Time does seem to be passing incredibly slowly though haha

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 17/05/2021 23:59

@WhipperSnapperSteve just saw your post on being offered the other jabs. It's good you went ahead with the AZ. The GP said trials are not finished on these studies yet so I can imagine you must be feeling safer having the AZ jab for your second. There is more data on it so it helps.

OP posts:
NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 18/05/2021 00:02

@bumblenbean oh yes I have so much to do in that sense I can't actually physically rest. School runs, tuitions and swimming lessons with the kids. Mentally it will be a challenge to switch off. I'm also watching Netflix and sky to distract myself. Watched RUN on Netflix. Was chilling but good. Day 2 is good! Let's focus on the wins!

OP posts:
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/05/2021 00:04

Well done for doing it. You said I couldn't live with the anxiety of potential covid and half immunity but you do realise that for some of us, we've done the jabs but because we're on treatment for stuff, we're in that position for the foreseeable? I have OCD. Every person that gets the jab helps people like me.
Please do feel good :)
