Second jab appointments through GP

Sorry if this is a very basic question. I got my first jab on March 23rd through my GP practice. I am 49, no comorbidities. Do I need to wait for my GP practice to send me an appointment at the end of June for my second shot, or is there a way to move it up? I am keen to move it up.

You can book via NHS site if you don’t want to wait for GP.

Sorry, that really was a basic question. I can now see appointments. For some reason, I thought moving it up was open only to the over 50. I am not entirely sure if I should move it up, but as DS takes the tube everyday I am feeling a bit jittery.

Groups 1-9 only can move their second jab to 8 weeks. Are you in one of those groups?

Frequentflier · 17/05/2021 08:36

No, I am not ( am 49 so just missed Group 9) but I have just booked my second dose for June 4th. The site has allowed me to do so.

@LittleRen That's not quite true. Anyone can log on to the national site and book or change their second vaccination after eight weeks. The over 50s and groups 1-9 are strongly advised to, yes, but the site isn't limiting it only to those people.

@Frequentflier
Did you get anything from GP or just went to online booking system with your NHS number/ date of birth and so on?
And have you got to cancel the first one and then book the second one?

Frequentflier · 17/05/2021 08:45

I did not get anything from GP. I just went to NHS site, and booked a new appmt with my NHS number. I haven't yet got an appointment for a second dose from GP, so I did not have to cancel anything. Hope this helps.

@EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling the NHS site is only giving me an 11 week gap.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 17/05/2021 09:00

@LittleRen

Interesting, it's currently a 9wk gap for me and I could book for tmrw if I wanted? Can't get there till Friday though.

LittleRen · 17/05/2021 09:03

@EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling that’s odd. How old are you if you don’t mind me asking? I only just had my first jab and I am 36 so might be a factor?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2021 09:05

I'm 46 and was able to book my second jab at 8 weeks using the NHS site. If my GP contacts me in the meantime I'll cancel as I'd rather go to the same place as the first one.

Clutterbugsmum · 17/05/2021 09:06

I couldn't book through doctor as they didn't know when they would be getting vaccines in.

I had to book Via NHS site as DH was getting into the 10/12 week window and I'm a couple weeks behind him.

He's having his second on 24th May and I'm the 6th June.

We can even speak to our surgery about anything Covid related with have to send an Email.

Motherof3dogs · 17/05/2021 09:08

Hi op. You may get a text from your gp and be able to book sooner, dh and I both got one last week (52) I had my second on saturday. Was originally due at beginning of June.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 17/05/2021 09:09

@LittleRen I'm 46, originally booked through gp hub, first jab mid March but not for cv or underlying health reasons.

If you're keen to move yours up keep trying the site. It does annoy me that one can't check availability without cancelling first though!
