Is anyone else starting to think this will never end?

Without name calling or turning this into a slanging match, please can we discuss our ‘fuck shit dread worst outcome’ thoughts please?

I have this awful impending sense of doom. I can’t shake it off.
As I’m writing this, I realise it doesn’t matter what each of our beliefs are around the current situation as none of us really know what’s going on.

However I do know my gut instinct is screaming at me something awful is coming.
Does anyone else have this or am I going mad?!

Oh and sorry to clarify, when I mean this will never end, I mean until a large catastrophe..... it feels like to me we’re building towards something, a giant storm of our whole way of life I guess??

I am struggling to see an end in the short term while there are So many cases around the world which provide perfect conditions for the virus to mutate, and mutate into variants that our current vaccines may be less effective in dealing with.

For the UK, we should have stopped travellers from India weeks ago (as we did Pakistan), but Johnson's government cannot be relied upon to do what's best for the UK population.

RedcurrantPuff · 14/05/2021 22:48

@Dongdingdong

Time to rip off the plaster and take what comes. All these restrictions are doing is prolonging things.

Don’t be silly. The restrictions are allowing us to vaccinate as many people as possible whilst limiting the chances of the virus spreading through our communities.

Ah fair enough. Yes I don’t mean right now. Get more vaccinated ASAP
TimeToGoOut · 14/05/2021 22:50

Of course it will end. Historically pandemics seem to have lasted approx 4 years and that's without any vaccines. There will be hotspots in different parts of the world for some time yet and I'm expecting travel to be limited for the next couple of years. Enjoy meeting up with people while cases are low, enjoy baking / Netflix / countryside walks when cases rise. I appreciate it's not quite that simple but try to stay positive and we'll get through it.

MiniTheMinx · 14/05/2021 22:52

I'd like the communism please. Not so keen on the technocracy idea though. From my understanding its right wing nut jobs worrying about whether American imperialism can survive a global coalition and a more collaborative global system of governance.

I do have concerns that covid provides the fear and the pretext upon which government can claw away civil liberties.

I'm not at all convinced or concerned that the new variant is likely to be of any greater threat, but I am suspicious that the state will use fear and uncertainty to further its agenda. I don't for one minute think their agenda is communism, technocracy, tyranny yes, communism no.

Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 22:52

Yep awful feeling of doom too, this is going to get worse again...

Thewiseoneincognito · 14/05/2021 22:55

OP here’s my thoughts on where we are at;

I believe the only way this is going to end is through a total cure. A cure NOT a vaccine. Until then we’re stuck on the Covid hamster wheel.

Why?

Because as this continues to work it’s way through populations of vaxxed people it’s going to continue mutating. The vaccine does not stop you getting Covid it just lowers the risk if you have it, for now that is. How many times can you catch Covid before it starts to take its toll? What does the immune system look like if you’ve had Covid 5 or 6 times? How long is long covid?

My gut feeling is We are going to be caught in this rinse and repeat never ending cycle of lockdowns and releases for a very long time and once people accept and learn to roll with the good and bad times we can start to move on.

Society needs to adapt to our new reality. We are still applying pre-covid idealism’s to a Covid world and the two are like oil and water.

BonnieDundee · 14/05/2021 22:57

You would be pretty unlikely to get covid 5 or 6.times

You don't actually know that.
RhubarbTea · 14/05/2021 23:02

I haven't read the rest of the thread but yes, OP - I have the deep sense of dread too. It's awful. I have no idea what it's based on if anything or if I am just mad. It sort of settled last March and never really left, but ebbs and flows. I don't have any advice at all but massive solidarity. I hope things get better for us all, and I hope anyone who shares this awful sinking feeling finds that it lifts soon. Flowers

How do you know?
blueangel19 · 14/05/2021 23:03

May be covid is here to stay but come on we have vaccines, tests, anti virals coming in Autumn. There is no need to lockdown like back at Christmas. I personally do not think this is going to happen. They need to keep pushing for people to take the vaccines as much as possible. The uptake is very high anyway. We should be on the way out of lockdowns. However, back to normal o pre Covid is going to take a while.

BonnieDundee · 14/05/2021 23:08

enjoy baking / Netflix / countryside walks when cases rise

It's bit "let them eat cake"

For the lot of.people it isn't going to be Netflix and banana bread. Its going to be wondering how to keep the roof over your head and feed your children, netflix cancelled because you havent got anything spare, no baking because its cheaper to buy when you're on 80% of NMW and wondering if you'll have a job to go back to, not knowing if you'll get another and whether you'll lose your home

GoddessKali · 14/05/2021 23:08

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts, it’s helping me to process my feelings to hear your perspectives ❤️🙏🏽

@GreyStep your comment about the bodies floating down the river in India has triggered that feeling of impending doom.

I think it’s because someone sent me info about India where they were saying that what they’re doing is stopping all of the usual aid and health care in India and that’s why the numbers are escalating so much - so the safety measures being taken are making matters worse and killing more people that Covid, as no clean water, food, aid, healthcare etc.
It was then linked to summits and trade deals regarding India’s resources such as farming, resources etc. and how outside forces (I think maybe another country’s government or something?) are trying to use this opportunity to seize power over India’s rich resources by starving the nation.

Which then reminds me of Venezuela- which used to be know previously as the worlds happiest nation (!) and has one of the richest resources in the world - it’s where Earths purest water source originates from. And then of course how horrendous it is there for people (my ex was Venezuelan) - the people are suffering so much there due to horrific corruption.

And then I’m left feeling so confused and conflicted - because I see those other countries and feel like something big is about to erupt, with our country too - I feel like we’re heading for that level catastrophe.

Sorry, I guess tonight’s UK news update has really triggered me into thinking the worst Sad

I hope this doesn’t trigger people, I just feel like whoever is in charge of sorting this whole mess out is making cock up after cock up until there’s an almighty explosion!!!

Well if Covid was more like a cold than flu (is it??) then getting it 5 or 6 times would be ok as apparently we get approximately 5 colds a year (I only usually get 2)

Getting frequent flu would be very debilitating on the body long term - I've had flu twice and I'm 50 - last time 12 years ago and it was awful - I was ill for 3 weeks and weak/tired for a further 4.

It's really rare to get covid twice. Doctors say this. I know everyone and their dog have had it twice or more on MN but how unlucky would you have to be to get it twice, then several more times?

You are so right about this. Yet remember how happy and positive the Venezuelans are. Also, of course how lucky we are in comparison. Plus do not forget that the government there started as supposedly socialists. They made everybody equally poor.

Yes I’m hearing of more and more people run out of work, losing jobs, marriages breaking down, kids rebelling- it’s like the psychological effect is casing a far greater problem than the original problem it’s trying to solve.

No I am not a doctor (you definitely do not want me looking after you if you were sickGrin) I do work with doctors and they seem to think it is unusual to get it twice (and I trust these people more than I trust he government atm) Would be interested to hear other doctors' opinions on here tho

Haha that’s so true your comment about how happy they are! I met my ex when his building collapsed and he was made instantly homeless with only the clothes on his back, this was 1st May 2020 so middle of the first lockdown. Despite all of this and terrible hardships, family suffering etc even on the day that happened and we met, he’s the most positive, uplifting lovely man you’ll ever meet!

So yes, every Venezuelan I’ve ever met has been a really lovely person so they must have something magic and positive going on ❤️

It would be great to get some doctors / specialists on AMA..... but then I guess we’d never know if they were genuine or making it up Grin

WhoWants2Know · 14/05/2021 23:42

I think we need to stop the reactionary approach we have to new variants and changes to restrictions, and look at the bigger picture as well.

A global pandemic happened because the world created ideal conditions for it to occur. Experts knew it would happen eventually, spurred on by population density and international travel.

If we get Covid under control and return to the way things were before, it's a matter of time before it happens again.

So rather than focusing on a particular variant in the short term, we need to identify ways that we, as a global community can move forward safely together.

You shouldn’t call people with opposite opinion conspiracy theorists.

Stay on Google/Amazon and have a look for a Claus Swab, it’s right there
