As Boris has requested. I am.

Has anyone else has trouble with constant positive on lft? Work friend nhs was told to stop doing them as all the pcr negative. She tried another lft and every single one positive over the last year! 🤷‍♀️

3CCC · 14/05/2021 19:20

Nope

I do if I remember

It's just a faff

I've been vaccinated twice and in a low risk area

NeverForgetYourDreams · 14/05/2021 19:20

Nope. Still haven't taken a single test as not been in contact with anyone with Covid and not had any symptoms

whymewhyme · 14/05/2021 19:21

Nope!!!

3CCC · 14/05/2021 19:22

I might do when I'm out and about more

trilbydoll · 14/05/2021 19:23

I do one weekly for work and that seems sufficient for me, considering I'm the only one on the floor not vaccinated now and DH is fully wfh. Twice a week feels a bit excessive for some reason! I wasn't very enthusiastic about doing a weekly test but it's quite reassuring, despite the fact they aren't 100% accurate.

rolloverrosie · 14/05/2021 19:23

@jumpbounce and yet here we are months into a lockdown when hospitals have fine and deaths are now in single figures and have been low for weeks.

CoffeeWithCheese · 14/05/2021 19:26

Nope. We've all been following booking tests and isolating if we have anything remotely symptomatic but I'm not putting the kids and family through anything more than that. I can suggest a place Boris can stick his damned LFTs.

jumpbounce · 14/05/2021 19:27

@GappyValley

Restrictions will only be needed in case of rise in hospitalizations not cases.

Then what on EARTH if the point of the tests?

So the people spreading it can self isolate and not infected those who will become the hospital figures!
SusannahSophia · 14/05/2021 19:30

I have done since January for work in a school.

The LFTs are for those who are asymptomatic, to reduce people spreading the virus unknowingly. If you get a positive you need to get it confirmed by a more accurate PCR.

I dislike the plastic waste created, but it’s really no hassle.

Thenthatsthatthen · 14/05/2021 19:31

I have to do them for work Hmm so yes I guess I will be. I wouldn’t through choice though.

Neonprint · 14/05/2021 19:33

It's not a new thing though? These tests have been available for a while. I've had both vaccines so I'm unlikely to catch covid. But will do if it would help.

Neonprint · 14/05/2021 19:34

It's literally no hardship to do the tests though. So why are people so bothered about this?

CarrieBlue · 14/05/2021 19:34

No, not a chance.

TheMoth · 14/05/2021 19:35

Twice a week. Really not an issue.

Seeing as how we've had a few sets of kids sent home re cv lately, I'd quite the kids to actually use them too. Then not having them wearing masks might be a bit better.

safariboot · 14/05/2021 19:37

I have a set though I've been slacking off doing them. I do think they're useful. Obv a positive is confirmed or refuted by a PCR.

Still not sure if I'm doing it right. I don't really know what tonsils are...

Leonardsgirl · 14/05/2021 19:37

I do. It takes a couple of minutes and costs me nothing. Why wouldn't I?

NoMLMbots · 14/05/2021 19:38

Oh when did Boris come up with this new rule? Or is it optional? Guidelines or another open to interpretation?
Report to whom?
Everywhere or just on MN or just higher infection areas?

Who makes the lateral flow tests and what is the current share price like? Another job for the old boys network or non profit.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 14/05/2021 19:38

@Leonardsgirl

Because of false positives and the huge amount of single use plastic waste associated with them going straight to landfill.

Do a Google image search for tonsils. I had to for the very first PCR test I done. I convinced myself I didn't have any tonsils ...I doGrin

It's no hardship to you, are you incapable of recognising that we are all different and some find these tests intolerable. Or a waste in people who are not ill. Or a waste of huge amounts of plastic.
JustMeAndWheatley · 14/05/2021 19:41

Yes. They’re required as a condition of returning to bellringing.

firstimemamma · 14/05/2021 19:41

No the amount of plastic waste involved makes me feel sick.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/05/2021 19:45

Same here.
Neonprint · 14/05/2021 19:46

It feels a bit rich for people who have chosen to have children complaining about single use plastic. How much single use plastic and non recyclable waste have you used in terms of nappies and food pouches etc? How much carbon will your children contribute to the world?

Then to complain about potentially life saving tests wasting plastic. Perhaps make a few sustainable swaps to compensate? Although as I say with all the waste generated by breeding I suspect the issue is not in fact the single use plastic. But it's a convenient excuse.
