So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

Boris being late is triggering my PTSD

User135644 · 14/05/2021 17:18

@DianeCherry

It's started

"People living in Moray and Glasow will not be allowed to travel in or out of the areas except for in permitted circumstances but businesses affected will be offered extra financial support, Scotlands first minister says.

Nicola Sturgeon says the decision to keep both places in level three coronavirus restrictions by "pressing pause for a few days" will avoid even more restrictive measures over the next few weeks.

She says Moray Council will receive £375,000 and Glasgow City Council £1.05m per week. This will allow them to give £750 a week to hospitality and leisure businesses that will not be able to honour bookings made next week."

Is this just to stop Rangers fans gathering though (they lift the title tomorrow)?
Stovetopespresso · 14/05/2021 17:20

Not sure if already been said but I heard a boff say a few months ago that it's mixing in private homes which is the real trigger for spread. at least in hospitality venues there's a chance of organised oversight (officially at least). I reckon there will be certain areas not allowed to open up as already the case in Glasgow and some blah about steps they're taking.

BananasAboutBananas · 14/05/2021 17:21

Do they release info about how many hospital admissions and deaths are among vaccinated vs unvaccinated

Devlesko · 14/05/2021 17:21

I hope it's about Bolton, and people will be stopped travelling to local towns.
I'm worried for Greater Manc and Lancashire/ Merseyside.
That's the problem, so many local authorities and towns in close proximity.

Moonstone1234 · 14/05/2021 17:21

Don’t blame the government. Blame the people who are potentially spreading it around. I honestly don’t understand why some people aren’t getting the vaccine. It will spoil it for the rest of us.

I 100% agree with local lockdowns as well.

It’s already too late for that. Eid yesterday will have contributed to a lot of household mixing across the nearby towns. It’s seeded too far to be able to deal with this locally. Whatever happens now is irrelevant really, our next wave has started.
winched · 14/05/2021 17:25

@NoMLMbots Predicted what exactly?

I couldn't remember - hence why I put "predicted" in inverted commas.

I wish people would chill a bit and step back and look at the low rate of death from covid and look at the high rate of vaccinations and look at the low rate of hospital cases.

Umm.... have you read my posts? Or are you directing that at posters saying restrictions shouldn't be lifted, and we're definitely headed for another lockdown so we might as well start now?

Believe me I am well aware of the low death rate and the high vaccination rate and the low rate of hospital cases.

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 17:25

We don't even know what he is going to say yet and yet people are assuming is is a done deal for a lock down or catastrophe. I wish people would chill a bit and step back and look at the low rate of death from covid and look at the high rate of vaccinations and look at the low rate of hospital cases.

@NoMLMbots I think the majority of us do and that's why we're so frustrated that there have been hints of further restrictions. WE can see that for ourselves, we know the vaccination rollout has been a success, we know hospitalisations and deaths are low, we know the majority of people get no or mild symptoms and the survival rate is high. We know all of this. It's the frustration and being held captive by the government who keep wanting to petrify the general public.

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 17:28

I agree. Still not completely sure what he’ll say but think the same as this. It’s a bit nervy as you can never be sure

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 17:29

It would be nice if they confirmed the vaccines work just as well against the variants, maybe whitby is going to speak on that and push vaccinations. Boris Johnson probably about the success of the rollout etc. Caution caution caution ahead of Monday and hands face space . Soon find out.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 17:29

Whitty even Hmm

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 17:29

I'm pretty sure the Prime Minister is going to make all the same mistakes he made at the start of the first wave and the start of the second.

So in this case that means continuing with the unlock until it's too late to avoid another lockdown.

Stovetopespresso · 14/05/2021 17:30

I guess logically it's now about protecting the unvaccinated in certain areas?

Devlesko · 14/05/2021 17:31

Aw, he can't help it, his mummy is cooking his tea. Something uninspiring about a leader who can never be on time.

Alonim · 14/05/2021 17:31

It's become an obvious pattern, I agree, now PrincessNutNuts.

Same as the pattern of conversation surrounding these moments has also become very obvious.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/05/2021 17:31

How would you stop them? It can be asked, but that doesn't mean folk will take any notice and the police can't stop them all

In my east midlands city they're doing door-to-door visits to the unvaccinated - a fine idea, you'd think, but already the cries of "racist targeting" have started. Try a travel ban and there's be even more of this

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 14/05/2021 17:31

It was a bad week to decide to go cold turkey on the glue sniffing

Yes as predictable as those stating lockdowns will happen. Or bad move. It’s been present whole time.

I'm not sure that we know that.

Ravi Gupta of the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease says the Indian variant “likely will cause infections despite vaccination and we don’t know how big that problem will be”.

Professor Gupta suggests that it has “enhanced potential to cause disease” and “neutralising antibodies generated by the vaccinated individuals were about 80% less potent against some of the mutations in B.1.617”.
