Talk to me if you've got an autoimmune disease and have had the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine

Can't have AZ, due to a clotting issue, but have also got various auto immune issues, and a strong family history of auto-immunity.

I was all gung-ho for vaccination when I couldn't get Moderna/Pfizer, but now there's stock, I find myself getting cold feet, as I'm concerned the technology means it risks an auto-immune flare.

I'd love to hear from anyone with auto-immune issues who've had either jab to hear experiences of any kind! How have you found it?

DH has psoriatic arthritis and had Pfizer both doses and was fine. But tired and arm a bit sore after the first just had an early night. No flare up of his PA at all.

IWantToBeNynaeve · 13/05/2021 23:03

My DP has Multiple Sclerosis and has had both doses of the AZ vaccine, no problems or side effects thankfully.

ExpulsoCorona · 13/05/2021 23:03

Hi, I have Multiple Sclerosis and take Tecfidera. I also have hypothyroidism. I have had both doses of Pfizer. The first dose gave me a fever, nausea, muscle aches and fatigue. All fully resolved in 48 hours. The second dose gave me a sore arm and fatigue, also fully resolved in 48 hours. Neither dose flared up my conditions. Hope that helps x

My family member has multiple autoimmune diseases (sarcoidosis, IBD, psoriasis). She had the Pfizer vaccine and hasn't had any issues.

daisywavy · 13/05/2021 23:13

I have vasculitis and aneurysms plus hypothyroidism and had both doses of Pfizer, I'm currently having cyclophosphamide and take azathioprine and have been fine apart from a slight sore arm at the injection site for a day or so.

Totallydefeated · 13/05/2021 23:16

This is encouraging!

Thanks so much for your replies. I'm so happy you've all been fine!

AstraZeneca has left me plagued with arthritic pain for three weeks now.

Rheumatologist on Monday for me

History of psoriasis- I think they’re going to tell me I’ve got psoriatic arthritis

So far I’m trying to accept it’s a coincidence and am really grateful I’ve had the jab. Hmm

FrozenVag · 13/05/2021 23:17

Sorry for the negative post

I do think it’s probably a coincidence if nothing else because of my age

BusMum79 · 13/05/2021 23:20

I have ulcerative colitis. I’ve had 2 doses of the Pfizer. Sore arm after the 1st, 12 hours of flu type symptoms with the 2nd. Now feel totally fine.

MiniMaxi · 13/05/2021 23:21

Hi OP not quite answering the question but out of interest are your autoimmune conditions part of the reason for avoiding AZ?

RandomMess · 13/05/2021 23:22

@FrozenVag that sucks, it wouldn't be unthinkable that the vaccination triggered the first attack. DH was triggered by having pneumonia Sad

RandomMess · 13/05/2021 23:24

@MiniMaxi nope the op has a clotting issue already.

Auto-immune conditions can be made worse/attack triggered when you get ill so not unthinkable that any vaccine such as for flu or Covid could hit you really hard compared to the average person.

RoseWineTime · 13/05/2021 23:31

I have various autoimmune conditions (hypothyroidism, Stevens Johnson syndrome, HE to name a few) and have suffered a previous pulmonary embolism. I’ve possibly had both AZ and Pfizer as I’m on the mixed vaccine trial - luckily I have only had mild side effects after my second jab. I didn’t think clotting or autoimmune issues were a problem with either jab?

RoseWineTime · 13/05/2021 23:32

I meant that they were a risk factor?

HesterLee · 13/05/2021 23:33

I have IBD and hypothyroidism. I have had 2 x pfizer with no issues except a sore arm.

plumdeplum · 13/05/2021 23:46

I have Coeliac disease and have has both Pfizer jabs, barely a sire arm.

plumdeplum · 13/05/2021 23:46
  • sore!
piglet81 · 13/05/2021 23:53

I have hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism and had my first Pfizer jab today. Just a sore arm so far.

Defiantly41 · 13/05/2021 23:58

2 autoimmune diseases (T1 diabetes and hypothyroid). Have had Pfizer (both doses) and have been fine , just a bit of a sore arm

Gothichouse40 · 13/05/2021 23:59

I have an autoimmune condition and sorry to say the AZ vaccine has given me hellish side-effects. Six weeks and counting. Not looking forward to the second vaccination, but what choice is there? Im not convinced Id survive Covid-19. Now there seems to be either concern or nothing to worry about over the new variant, wish they would make up their minds.

Totallydefeated · 14/05/2021 00:12

Oh no FrozenVag I'm so sorry, that sounds awful Sad

MiniMaxi, no, it's like Random says, I've been told not to have AZ because of my clotting issues, not because of the autoimmune ones.

I've hashimotos and am coeliac - had both doses of the Pfizer. No side effects from the first and felt a bit hot/cold and achy for about 48 hours after the second one.

Totallydefeated · 14/05/2021 00:14

I'm so sorry to hear about the side effects you've suffered Gothic Sad I do also worry about the effects of catching Covid re autoimmunity too. There's no no-risk option.

I have Lupus and have had one Pfizer, no problems apart from a rash under my boobs where I had shingles a while ago.

peachgreen · 14/05/2021 00:26

My mum has MS and psoriatic arthritis and had the Pfizer with no side effects besides a sore arm and feeling a bit weird for a day or two. My housemate has rhoumatoid arthritis and had AZ - he had flu-like symptoms for a day and then was fine. Unlike after he had Covid which is what triggered his first RA flare up and led to his diagnosis. Sad
