Side effects of second AZ dose?

veneeroftheweek · 12/05/2021 19:20

I'm interested in how people felt after their second AZ dose, especially if they felt terrible after the first one.
I've been given a date for my second dose at a location that's really handy but it coincides with something important happening later that day. I can book for a different date but it'll be much less convenient. I'm unsure whether to risk it.

I'm in the same situation. First dose wiped me out, it was horrible. My second dose is booked for this Friday and I don't have time to feel poorly over the weekend!

fish231 · 12/05/2021 19:23

I have just had my second one yesterday...I was poorly for 5 days after my 1st one and was bed bound.
This one, I have a bit of a temperature (38) being handled by paracetamol.
A bit of a headache and very mild body aches.
The second jab has been a much more pleasant experience

veneeroftheweek · 12/05/2021 19:23

That's reassuring Fish. I was knocked for six by the first one.

Sorry you felt so bad for so long with your first one. I felt awful but it was short-lived.

My first jab had me in bed for a week, and absolutely covered in hives. I had my second on Friday and just had a bit of a hangover feeling on Saturday. Absolutely fine now. 🙂

minipie · 12/05/2021 20:27

My first I felt like I had flu (achey and shivery and wiped out) for about 24 hours.

My second - nothing. Not a sausage.

I have read that with AZ the side effects seem to be less the second time round, whereas with Pfizer it’s the other way round.

TruelyWonder · 12/05/2021 20:27

My husband had a sore arm and slight headache with first

Nothing with second

Second is supposed to be easier with AZ

Other way around for Pfizer

veneeroftheweek · 12/05/2021 20:44

Thanks everyone. I think I'll go for it.

Second dose felt great the same day!

DaveDave · 12/05/2021 22:11

So far so good! First dose pretty horrible for a week.
One day into second dose and nothing so far

Tomnooktoldmeto · 12/05/2021 22:28

First dose I was rough, I expected to be as I’m chronically unwell
Second dose ok for 24 hours then mild temp, vomited for about 4 hours and rough for another 6 then just tired for a couple of days

DH first dose mild temp after 24 hours and felt under the weather but ok to work
Second dose was today and so far nothing

lifeturnsonadime · 13/05/2021 09:33

I was in bed for 48 hours after the first. The second one I've been absolutely fine. I had it on Tuesday this week.

zafferana · 13/05/2021 09:35

I'm going for my second today, so I'll let you know!

Our local vaccine centre has invited anyone who had their first dose >8 weeks ago to go in and have their second to use up doses of AZ.

AnneOfCleavage · 13/05/2021 09:49

Had 36hrs of feeling dreadful after first vaccine (O/AZ) where I had temp, shivery, nausea then vomiting and feeling exhausted and achy. It came on within 6 hrs so quite quick.

Had 2nd with slight trepidation Tuesday evening this week and was fine until about 4.30pm yesterday when I felt suddenly exhausted, achy, slight headache and a bit shivery. Very short lived and didn't even need paracetamol and went to bed fine and have woken up fine.

The vaccinator said that 2nd doses get much milder symptoms and I'm happy to say it's true. So happy I'm done and can't wait for DH to have his 2nd now.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 13/05/2021 09:52

DH has now taken to his bed feeling achy and hot after his second yesterday, hopefully it will be short lived

amicissimma · 13/05/2021 10:13

I felt a bit fluey after my first for about 6/7 hours and tired the next day.

Nothing at all after the second, even had to poke the injection site pretty hard to make it feel tender!

zafferana · 14/05/2021 08:37

Had my second dose yesterday morning at 10.30 and have a slightly sore arm this morning. Yesterday evening I felt a bit sick and dizzy at around 9pm, but I didn't take anything and feel absolutely fine now. With the first dose I felt fluey for 24 hours, so this is MUCH better!

MadisonAvenue · 14/05/2021 08:40

After my first one I was totally wiped out for a couple of days and my arm hurt and was swollen for a couple of weeks.
I had my second two weeks ago and had a very mild headache the following day, my arm was sore for around three days and that was it!

mygee · 16/05/2021 08:36

Coming back to report that I've been much better after my second dose! Felt tired and a little achy, but otherwise fine.

whatisforteamum · 16/05/2021 11:11

This is useful.First dose I felt drunk almost straight away, wobbly legs and bad tum.Shivery and headache and I lost my appetite for ages.
I will have my 2nd dose but I am a bit weary.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 16/05/2021 11:26

DH was very tired for a day with his second. He said it was like waves of it. He had a few naps. Fine by the evening

highlandcoo · 16/05/2021 18:02

With the first, the following day I experienced the sort of tiredness you get with jet-lag. Hit a wall and had to crawl into bed for most of the day.

Had my second yesterday morning and so far haven't felt a thing. I've been gardening all day. Hope it stays like that!

Karmatime · 16/05/2021 18:09

I had my second one a week ago. I felt achey and kind of jet lagged for 24 hours. It wasn’t severe and very short lived. My first was the same.

veneeroftheweek · 18/05/2021 21:15

I had my second dose. The following day I had a bit of a headache but nothing serious. It was definitely nothing like the first one!
