"We are going to wait and give more detail and more guidance on exactly what we mean by the end of social distancing later this month." (From BBC). Well it's either the end or it's not. What do you make of this?

OP posts:

"Social distancing will continue, but we will call it something different like 'People Biggening' so we can still say social distancing has ended. More details on People Biggening to follow later this month."

Personally I think they will scrap all social distancing etc, rates of infection won't matter as long as hospital beds and deaths are low. Boosters rolled out. Just like annual flu jab foe those most at risk. Unless covid mutates so much it evade our vaccines.

ThornAmongstRoses · 10/05/2021 20:28

I agree with dementedswan - social distancing will be scrapped and we can start getting back to normal. At least that’s what I hope will happen anyway!

SonnetForSpring · 10/05/2021 20:49

I think it is highly unlikely that social distancing will be completely scrapped. Boris really doesn't like to deliver bad news unless he has absolutely no other choice. So, he will probably wait until the situation gets more serious, then introduce it again. He knows people are desperate to believe everything is going back to normal, so he will allow people to do that for as long as he can.

Sunny360 · 10/05/2021 20:54

I think it will be scrapped but masks will remain in certain settings.

Dementedswan · 10/05/2021 21:02

As a deaf person I'd rather the social distancing remain. I've been a prisoner long enough, unable to to do basics like shop etc because I need to lip read. I have no idea of or even how a person is speaking to me. As a consequence I'm now on high dose antidepressants and anxiety meds.

HolmeH · 10/05/2021 21:27

I recon they are keeping an eye on the Indian variant. It’s really jumped in number recently. Vaccines seem to be holding up against it, so that’s good. But not everyone is vaccinated yet so.. I’m fully expecting the Indian variant to be a reason life won’t be back to normal on 21st June! I’m not usually pessimistic .. guess we’ll see 🤷🏼‍♀️

WaverleyPirate · 10/05/2021 21:34

Yes - Indian variant is worrying for the unvaccinated.

This is absolutely heartbreaking 😞

I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this for so long now. I know some people prefer masks but I wish they would scrap them too!

I just noticed on tonight’s briefing one of the scientists said something along the lines of “we may have to bring masks back in on public transport in the winter of cases rise”. That made me think that maybe they are planning on scrapping them altogether in June for him to say that? Here’s hoping 🤞
