Pfizer side effects?

Tinkling · 10/05/2021 08:45

I’ve booked my vaccine and I’ve been allocated Pfizer as I’m under 40.

My vaccine is booked before a really busy weekend which I don’t want to be ill for.

I’m sure I read less people get side effects from Pfizer but that was months ago so apologies of this is a duplicate (or many-plicate) - can anyone advise? I’ve read the patient information leaflet.

Thanks

Sorry but there is no way of guaranteeing you a side-effect-less experience. I had no problems at all - had both Pfizer now. All but one of my friends/contacts with AZ have had no problems (the one who did was flu like for a day). Another friend who had Pfizer was fine for the first one and knocked off her feet for three days by the second! There are many theories about why people get these different experiences but nobody can actually say for certain. If you can't afford to be ill that weekend, I wouldn't take the risk - or accept that you might be under the weather.

I've had 2 doses of Pfizer second one in April. Only side effects each time were a sore arm at the injection site both times lasting about a day

lovelilies · 10/05/2021 08:52

Anecdotally I think people who've actually had Covid are getting more side effects from the vaccine. I haven't had Covid

purplehulahoop · 10/05/2021 09:00

Sore arm, headache, extreme tiredness. Well enough for my physical job.

Bells3032 · 10/05/2021 09:22

I had a slightly sore arm (but bearable) and i think i was very tired the few days after both vaccines (going to bed at like 10pm rather than my usual 1 or 2am). but my dad had it and was really fluey the next day - he's never had covid (we were very cautious as he's CEV), he was fine after the second one.

There's no way to tell which will happen to you but no one i know had a reaction last more than a couple of days but would avoid anything really important for a couple of days

I dont know anyone who has had any side effects from Pfizer (plenty though that have had side effects from AZ)

Tinkling · 10/05/2021 09:40

Thanks... it’s my daughter’s birthday on the Saturday and my vaccine is the Thursday morning. I’ve blocked out Thursday and Friday for cake making and ballon arch creating, Saturday we are off to a farm and Sunday have a garden party... not sure what to do for the best x

The statistics show that if you do get side effects from Pfizer they are more likely to be from the second dose not the first so you should be fine for the birthday weekend

palacegirl77 · 10/05/2021 09:44

I had my second dose of Pfizer on Friday. First jab I had very sore arm on the day after. But it was day three when I felt worse - temp, nausea and upset tummy. Had my second one on Friday and same dead arm on day 2 (now fine) and bit of temp, tiredness but no upset tummy this time so all good. Its just the immune system doing its job!

fairgame84 · 10/05/2021 09:49

I've had both doses of Pfizer. I had sore arm for 2 days after each but not enough to need time off work. I work on neonatal unit and it really did ache when I was feeding babies!
I felt tired after the 2nd but not after the 1st.

DroopyDaff · 10/05/2021 09:52

I only had a slightly numb arm for two days after my 1st Pfizer jab.

Had a slight headache (like one was coming on) for 2 days after my 2nd.

My teen (CEV) DS had exactly the same. We both had Covid late last year very mildly.

I certainly wouldn’t put off having the jab for a child’s birthday party. Most adverse effects seem to only last for 48 hours anyway so you’re likely to be fine.

Aria20 · 10/05/2021 09:53

Had both my Pfizer jabs. Had a really sore arm and stiff neck on that side for 2 days after first jab, slightly raised temperature during the night but other than that was totally fine and able to do everything I normally would. Same again after my second jab and also a slight headache but again nothing I needed to go to bed for!

My brother had Oxford AZ and had fever, chills, headache and body aches for 2 days, he hasn't had his second yet but will do in a couple of weeks.

TruelyWonder · 10/05/2021 10:09

All the vaccines can have side effects I am afraid. You hopefully will be in the 1 in 4 that doesn't get any. Take paracetamol before appointment and keep topping up for 24hrs. Like baby jabs and calpol.

My mother inlaw had Pfizer both doses and no side effects. However younger people tend to get more side effects from the vaccines apparently. The good news is its meant to show you are having a very good immune response.

Had no issues beyond a sore arm with the first Pfizer and it only lasted 24 hours.

Had my second first thing this morning and have felt dizzy a couple of times but otherwise fine and of course it may not be related (perimenopausal so who knows 🤷‍♀️)

Cookerhood · 11/05/2021 15:05

The good news is its meant to show you are having a very good immune response.
This isn't true, there is no evidence that the immune response is lower if you don't have side effects.
T original studies (for Pfizer) showed worse side effects with the second, and worse if you have had Covid. Real world experience may tuen out to be different of course.
Bottom line is that you have no way of knowing if you will get side effects or not.

TruelyWonder · 11/05/2021 15:11

Well you need to tell the regulators as they have that written on their yellow card reporting report. It is a theory though so you are right but one spouted by some experts too

Sisisimone · 11/05/2021 15:43

The good news is its meant to show you are having a very good immune response
As pp said this isn't true. There are 2 immune responses to the vaccine. An innate immune response which is activated as soon as you have been exposed to any foreign material and a second, adaptive immune response that helps your body gain vaccine immunity. It is the 2nd response where immunity is gained not the inflammatory response that triggers side effects. Its impossible to tell from the first response how strong your immune response will be.

TheVolturi · 13/05/2021 18:43

Had mine on Mon, only side effect has been I have felt a bit more tired than usual.

Same for me. Plus awful headaches. Felt wiped and very hot. Haven't had second yet.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/05/2021 21:19

I had my second yesterday. I have a much sore-er arm this time around, but no other effects yet.

Thoughtcontagion · 13/05/2021 21:23

I’m not aware that I had covid but was very unwell in the December before this all exploded of it had been now I would have said covid 100%

Had both doses of pzifer, first one on bed for 3/4 days, extreme fatigue, sickness.

Second one on bed 2 days, ear ache, swollen lymph nodes, headache.

Arm hurt both times, still getting painful arm now 3 weeks on.

Rest of family all pzifer including 90 year old Nan absolutely fine, I’m aged 36

Legoninjago1 · 13/05/2021 21:25

Nothing. Not even sore arm really. Only had one dose tho.

Spunout · 13/05/2021 21:29

MintyCedric · 13/05/2021 21:30

Cantspeakpublic · 13/05/2021 21:59

I had my first and was poorly for 5 days so I’m worried about my second! Arm agony, headache behind my eye sore skin and pain in my leg. Haven’t spoken to anyone else who has had this so feel worried
