Pfizer side effects?

Tinkling · 10/05/2021 08:45

I’ve booked my vaccine and I’ve been allocated Pfizer as I’m under 40.

My vaccine is booked before a really busy weekend which I don’t want to be ill for.

I’m sure I read less people get side effects from Pfizer but that was months ago so apologies of this is a duplicate (or many-plicate) - can anyone advise? I’ve read the patient information leaflet.

Thanks

As my sister in law, a nurse giving out the vaccine locally says: some people's immune system will see the vaccine, and quietly get on with registering it for future use if the virus darkens their door.
Some people's will let you know it's message is received and understood by performance reacting via a fever or sore arm.
She likens it to a pub garden. You get the quiet ones who happily sit with their pints. Then you get the stage school wannabes who must be heard and performance drink, laughing louder than everyone else.
Some do it without a whisper. Others show off.

I had my first Pfizer, felt a bit headaches for an hour and had cystitis for a couple of days. DP had nothing at all, not even a sore arm. In fact he felt quite high for about two hours.

I'm having my second tomorrow and will take it as it comes.

I was told to sip lucozade and take a nurofen. I did so and was pretty OK.

I've read that if you do get a sore arm after the vaccine it's recommended that you use the opposite arm for your 2nd. Worth remembering for those who have only had one jab
I think things like this are all urban myths. I'm a volunteer vaccinator & the best thing people can do is relax their arm - make it go as floppy as possible. It makes vaccinating easier too.
We tell people to take paracetamol if needed. Ibuprofen is fine too (I'm on a study & they told us that too).

I had my 1st pfizer yesterday and was warned I might get headaches and feel achy. Given this is my usual setting, I am pleasantly surprised to not have a headache today! I did struggle to sleep due to my arm feeling sore though ha!

Watercoloursky · 14/05/2021 16:57

My MIL has had both doses of Pfizer - the only side effect she got was a slightly sore arm, and that went away in a day or two.

Figgyboa · 14/05/2021 17:15

I've had both pzifer shots and covid. No side effects other than a sore arm. First shot was the worst, couldn't move my arm for two days, pain radiated up into my shoulder and neck. Second shot, no issues, just local pain at the injection site.

GlomOfNit · 14/05/2021 17:54

I had my first Pfizer in Feb and second yesterday. First gave me a really sore arm for about 36 hours, didn't want to lift it above elbow level. Slight fatigue, tiny bit headachey for an hour or so.

Second dose - sore arm which, 24 hours later, is already getting much better. But fatigue was more acute and - because I could - I actually went back to bed this afternoon. Feel like I'm slowed down and wading through treacle all day. Minor headache and slightly upset stomach this morning (could be coincidence). Nothing I'd Yellow Card though.

SinkGirl · 14/05/2021 17:59

Can you postpone it a few days?

I had mine Wednesday lunchtime. Yesterday I felt awful and lay down most of the day to be honest but struggled to sleep. Today I’ve feel pretty rubbish but not as bad. So if you react as I did it will be slap bang in the middle of your busy days.

When I booked mine it only gave me the option of two days but I could have gone back and rescheduled it

MissConductUS · 14/05/2021 18:06

For most people the side effects resolve within 48 hours, so you will likely be fine by Saturday.

LemonCake79 · 14/05/2021 18:08

I had Pfizer on Wednesday. No side effects, not even a sore arm. I was really hungry on Thursday though, absolutely ravenous. Maybe that is just a coincidence though?

My boss had this.. we told him he was bonkers..!
ApplyWithin · 14/05/2021 19:12

Sore arm here, that’s all. The other people I know who had Pfizer didn’t even have that.

PipsM · 14/05/2021 19:14

I had Pfizer on Wednesday, having had covid in December. My arm is really sore but that’s all. I feel tired- but have done since covid so who knows!
Hoping my reaction to my second jab in July isn’t too awful. I honestly think it’s pot luck as to how you will react.

usernotfound0000 · 14/05/2021 19:45

Updating my symptoms as it's now 30 hours since vaccination. Sore arm within an hour, uncomfortable over night, dead arm feeling all day and mid-afternoon started to feel achy/tired. Early night and hopefully will be sorted tomorrow.

WhiteChocTwix · 14/05/2021 21:13

1st dose Pfizer Tuesday midday. V.sore arm by Wednesday morning. A mild headache, like I had a mild hangover, by Wednesday 2pm, gone by Wednesday evening. All good by Thursday AM. Grateful for such a mild reaction, DH was floored for 2 days by AZ. DF had AZ and no reaction what so ever. 🤷‍♀️

LemonCake79 · 14/05/2021 21:16

@vroc81 you've made me so happy. I'm not alone Grin

I don't even eat white bread ordinarily but there I was with two great big doorsteps with loads of beans and cheese just for lunch. Blush

123banana · 14/05/2021 21:26

I had my Pfizer jab this afternoon. I’ve got a sore arm so far but am otherwise fine. Currently tucking into a Chinese takeaway with a few beers!

LemonCake79 · 14/05/2021 21:28

Wise to preempt the Pfizer famine @123banana Wink

123banana · 14/05/2021 21:28

Oh and when I say sore arm, it just feels slightly bruised round the jab site. It’s not painful!

Cantspeakpublic · 14/05/2021 22:23

@Sunnyfreezesushi

I had both doses of Pfizer on a Saturday morning and both times spent the weekend in bed. The first time I had a very high temperature. The second time my blood pressure went sky high straight after the vaccine at the centre and I almost fainted. I was very weak afterwards with a temperature all weekend/some breathlessness/numb legs etc. Early 40s, in good healthy, probably had Covid last year. The doctor at the centre told me she had seen similar especially in health care staff - younger, previous Covid history. By Monday/Tuesday absolutely fine both times. Most people in my family who have had Pfizer just had a temperature after the second dose.
I’m so worried about my second. I was poorly for a week but it seems that others were not really
Tinkling · 15/05/2021 21:17

@Reastie I emailed them to ask as I don’t want AZ. They said they’re only running Pfizer clinic for under 40’s.

@Tinkling thank you!

LaMariposa · 17/05/2021 21:34

I had Pfizer yesterday 1pm ish.
10p I started with a headache and sore arm, slept through until DS woke me at 5:30am. Felt rough most of the day, but like being hungover. I’ve been taking paracetamol. By teatime I felt a lot better, did a bit of housework and I’m now in bed with a banging headache, sore arm, and feeling generally grotty.
Hopefully I’ll be better tomorrow as I’ve a busy day at work.

wishingitwasfriday · 17/05/2021 21:49

I had my first Pfizer vaccine yesterday. Have felt ok although a sore arm. However this evening my bottom lip has swollen, as if I have lip filler and has gone numb. Not sure if it's a coincidence but never happened before. Off for an early night and hoping it's gone down in the morning as a bit embarrassed about going to work like it!

getyourfreakon · 17/05/2021 22:24

1st dose: sore arm the next day, fine after a few hours.
2nd dose: fine up until 24hrs after. Then chills, weakness, couldn't get warm, body aches, couldn't move out of bed. Had a lie in next morning feeling awful but able to get out of bed and just nausea and head spinning for a while.

getyourfreakon · 17/05/2021 22:27

Also had a lot of pain in lower arm on jab side, right down to the wrist.
