My arm still hurts a month on

Hi, I had my vaccine in my left arm about a month ago. It still really aches and I can’t sleep on my left as it’s too uncomfortable. It’s not so bad that I have to take pain killers but I would have thought after a month I wouldn’t be experiencing any discomfort from where I was injected.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Basically if you don't want any vaccine side effects or to risk catching covid yes🤷‍♀️

penni00 · 12/05/2021 23:02

Have you heard about the new Alien Variant? ;)

TruelyWonder · 12/05/2021 23:10

No just no😂😂😂

So I had this. When the needle went in, I had an unpleasant shooting sensation straight down my arm. I then had altered sensation in my whole arm which lasted for 2 months, including numbness in my hand. The mobility in my arm got worse and worse. It hurt to lie on it at night. I was really worried.

I paid for private physio because it was almost time for my second jab and I really didn’t want to go. He said I was just unbelievably unlucky, and he thought the problem had been the injecting - not the vaccine itself - and that the needle had caught a nerve and/or caused a haematoma.

I had 2 sessions of physio, and he worked on my arm and I would say it’s probably 95% improved. If I had another session, it would probably be completely fixed. I was so relieved.

I had the second dose. I asked to have it in my thigh and the nurse in charge looked horrified and said the vaccinators weren’t trained to do thighs... 🤦🏻‍♀️

CherryMaple · 12/05/2021 23:17

Should’ve said, I had the second dose in my other arm and - 6 weeks on - have had absolutely no problems at all.

Bedsheets4knickers · 13/05/2021 05:45

I had mine yesterday . My arm is so sore and I've been awake since 1am . Feeling pretty sorry for myself x

BertieBotts · 13/05/2021 07:07

Interesting to read the responses as DH suffers on and off from frozen shoulder and the jab gave him very similar symptoms and feelings. Luckily only for the following 24-48 hours though, it seems to have gone away now. He's going to ask for it in the opposite arm next time.

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 13/05/2021 09:33

@Schmetterling1

Mine hurts on and off but a sharp sting not an ache. Nothing visible on the skin though.
I have this too and also get this with the flu jab.

I had similar with a not-covid jab - to the point that I've only just really got my little finger sensation back in that arm. I asked that they did the covid ones in my other arm just to not affect the healing of it - and had no bother with that one.

I assumed they'd just slightly caught something with the needle and it was one of those things to be fair.

Mytholmroyd · 13/05/2021 18:28

I agree it seems more like an effect of the injections not the vaccine. I didnt have any soreness or redness jist what feels like nerve pain/bursitis. I dont know if there's a reason why they inject so high on the arm rather than below the joint.

A bit nervous about the second one I have to admit. It has really restricted my arm movement.

BonesJones · 13/05/2021 18:41

Mine was killing me until I did a load of press ups and pullups. It felt loads better after and stopped hurting altogether within the hour!

Inthesameboatatmo · 13/05/2021 18:45

Had my 2nd jab today the Pfizer. Had painful arm for a month after 1st jab.
The dr at the vaccination centre told me to yellow card the symptom .
Hope that helps

Rowgtfc72 · 13/05/2021 21:31

Had my jab 3 weeks ago. Slightly sore arm but nothing I couldn't manage.
My arm/shoulder started to hurt Tues. Its not red or swollen but the injection site which is practically on my shoulder is barely touchable and Im really struggling to lift my arm, never mind use it.
Anyone else have such a delayed reaction?

Booksandtea84 · 14/05/2021 09:08

I got a funny red rash and tenderness on my whooping cough vacc site on my arm a month after having it. So yes, I think pain at injection sites can take ages to clear for any vaccine.

charliechew · 14/05/2021 09:18

Both myself and my daughter have had headaches and neck pain, since we had ours in March. Has anyone had any problems with their periods? My daughter’s is quite late?

Rowgtfc72 · 14/05/2021 18:28

@charliechew mines a couple of days late but I'm 49 and my periods do their own thing anyway!

Thanks everyone. Very sore today but guess it is covid jab rated.

Powerplant · 14/05/2021 18:46

@charliechew I had my jab in March and a month later got really severe neck pain and headaches, these now thankfully have reduced, I haven’t heard of anyone else with these symptoms. Did you have your 2nd one? I’m trying to get hold of GP to see if it’s advisable to have mine.

CherryMaple · 14/05/2021 23:45

@charliechew My period went haywire after my first dose - I thought I must be starting menopause because that never happens. But it’s back to normal now and blood tests showed no menopause... I had AZ.
Nannyamc · 14/05/2021 23:57

Had AZ yesterday. Really sore arm today headache and temp high.
Taken paracetamol all day. Tired but struggling to sleep.

charliechew · 15/05/2021 10:17

@powerplant, more or less the same as you. Had my first dose in March, not sure if I’ll have the second, not sure what to do.

@CherryMaple, my daughter is not normally late, but has been before, about a year ago. She has diabetes so, it could be related to that.

Powerplant · 15/05/2021 19:55

@charliechew- I’m trying to get a phone appt with my gp for reassurance really as my 2nd one is due in a week. Are you having temple pain as well. It’s not really severe but still sore at times?

crimsonlake · 15/05/2021 20:09

Very interesting that someone has mentioned SIRA as I have been looking it up today as I am in a lot of pain still after my 2nd Pfiser jab, the beginning of April which felt like a punch in the arm when I had it.
A few days ago I actually thought the pain had gone but it is back with a vengence and I am having horrible nerve pain all over my arm. I actually made a trip to the pharmacist as the usual painkillers are not touching it.
I have suffered for years with pain from two slipped discs in my back and I feel a mix of anger and despair at the moment.

penni00 · 15/05/2021 21:55

@Powerplant
I have posted on here quite a few times about headache after AZ. Apologies to those who may be fed up with me!
I have had headaches (and eye issues) since AZ for 8 weeks now. There are a number of people who have been the same on here. You mention temple pain. For the first few weeks my headache was across my forehead, but then moved more to my temples. It is not agony but more like a pressing feeling in each temple, like this daily. I have improved over time but still not back to my normal pre jab self. I am over 50, so because the gov have brought forward the 12 week second dose to 8 weeks, I do not know what to do. I needed those extra 4 weeks that I was expecting to monitor and work out my next step. But due to the gov changing the second dose to 8 weeks, I am being called now. I cannot possibly face having a second dose whilst I still have the side effects from the first dose.
I too am going to have to consult with my GP. I do, however, think that even the best medic will not be able to predict how I will respond to a second dose.

Powerplant · 15/05/2021 22:20

@penni00. My neck pain started about 4 weeks after first vaccination and then a few days after the headaches started - not all in the same area which was a bit disconcerting but always radiated to the temples! The pain has reduced and I assumed all would be resolved before my 2nd jab in a week’s time. This hasn’t happened but I have just managed to book online a telephone appt with dr. the day before it’s due. I really want the 2nd vaccine but will see what this week brings.

penni00 · 16/05/2021 14:10

@Powerplant
I hope you get it sorted, your neck and headaches might be completely unrelated to the vaccine, as they started 4 weeks later. Hopefully your doctor can give you good advice.
I know how you feel though, I really want my 2nd vaccine, (esp with the threat of this Indian variant), but so difficult when I still have side effects from the first.dose.
Being over 50, I am going to check out whether I can skip the second dose but have the Autumn booster (which I pray might be a mRNA one).
