My arm still hurts a month on

CathyTurnbull · 08/05/2021 15:21

Hi, I had my vaccine in my left arm about a month ago. It still really aches and I can’t sleep on my left as it’s too uncomfortable. It’s not so bad that I have to take pain killers but I would have thought after a month I wouldn’t be experiencing any discomfort from where I was injected.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Interesting. I posted about the very same thing a few weeks ago, it still hurts now 13 weeks and is getting worse. I'm waiting for an appointment with physio. The doctor won't hear that it happened after the vacine and says it's coincidental!

YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire · 11/05/2021 23:52

There's something called SIRVA that people should be made aware of:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=1866870

A relative of mine has it following the COVID jab. My theory is that quite a few more people are getting it with the COVID jabs compared to the flu vaccine because they have had to try and train up extra medical staff who are inexperienced in terms of administering vaccines.

velliy · 12/05/2021 00:09

I had this after my flu jab back in October last year. It continued hurting for months afterwards, but it has improved. I would wake up feeling like I'd slept on my arm, and I felt weakness in my arm, I couldn't unscrew bottles or change bedsheets. Had the AZ vaccine in March on the same arm and no additional issues. It's still a bit weak now, but not painful.

Gothichouse40 · 12/05/2021 00:24

I often think it's sometimes down to who gives the vaccination. Some are good at it and others are awful, same with taking blood samples. My arm was sore for almost a fortnight, I did very gentle arm exercise each day and it did ease. Pain will go but takes time.

Waiting423 · 12/05/2021 10:44

Same here - 6 weeks after AZ vaccine and it still aches - nowhere near as bad as at the outset …nervous about having second jab

So pleased to find this thread as I only know one other person with this side effect

scottgirl · 12/05/2021 10:51

Have you filled out a Yellow Card COVID Government report? It would help people in the future know about these side effects .

penni00 · 12/05/2021 11:24

Hi, I have had headache, plus eye issues for 7 weeks since vaccination. However, I also have a tingling in the tips of my fingers of my left hand which is so mild I am not bothered. I actually had the jab in the other arm, so it may be wise not to assume arm/hand problems are categorically from the needle insertion. That being said, there is the ulnar nerve that runs right from the top of the arm to the hand, and I recall seeing a vaccine lawyer referring to how this nerve can be damaged from the vaccination needle. I think nerves heal in time, but it can take many weeks.

borntobequiet · 12/05/2021 11:25

The site of my pneumonia jab still aches on and off after three years, sometimes when I’m under the weather. It ached after my Covid jab too - worse than the jab arm.

palacegirl77 · 12/05/2021 11:26

I havent had this with my Pfizer jabs but my flu one last Oct took absolutely months to go away.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 11:28

I am not a doctor!!! The pain/discomfort is likely irritation/inflammation that needs time to settle, it is just as well we all have 12 weeks between jabs to allow this!

HDDD · 12/05/2021 16:49

Yep, me too. I'm also on the Piston thread and in an FB group about this. Ended up in hospital with it last week and GP this week. Today is the first day I have felt any relief (despite strong pain killers and anti inflammatories). Jab was over 6 weeks ago. It felt like she thumped me when it went in. I'm opting for a thigh jab for my next one. I am not going through this again.

scottgirl · 12/05/2021 19:31

HDDD I hate to say it but getting it in you thigh will not protect you from this. 6 weeks since my AZ vaccine in my thigh (due to longstanding arm weakness) and I had a delayed massive immune response 5 weeks ago. Big rash at injection site, fever, headache, felt unbelievably unwell. Have been told by 3 G.P's now not to have number 2 vaccine. Still unwell, daily headaches, sore injection site (wakes me up if I lie on it) and rash still visible but much faded.

Please fill in a Yellow Card report, it's the only way these things will be recorded.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 20:11

@HDDD
I strongly suspect I won't be able to have the second dose of AZ. What happens when people have had a serious adverse response to the first dose of AZ? Do all these half vaccinated people get left in the lurch? Is there really no chance any GP will allow a Pfizer or Moderna to follow as a second dose in the UK? Abroad, certain age groups who had the AZ as a first dose are being allowed a second dose with a different vaccine.
I really think we should have the option of a different vaccine as a second dose. (I know the mixing trials are not yet concluded). Is it categorically impossible to get a GP to allow this? If it is impossible, we are being forced to soon be exposed to covid.

Monkeytennis97 · 12/05/2021 20:18

Same here, on and off sensation reminds me I had the jab there. Had jab early March.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 20:35

@scottgirl , sorry addressed HDDD by mistake

BertieBotts · 12/05/2021 20:39

I had a sore arm for a year when I last got a tetanus jab :(

I know it probably sounds ridiculous but it's why I am almost phobic of injections, I find them incredibly painful and it lingers for ages.

BTE152 · 12/05/2021 20:49

A few theories going round- a friend of mine went to get hers and the doctor said it was women of a certain age who seemed to suffer these side effects more. I had a sore and swollen arm for 3-4 weeks. Just gone down but never had a reaction like that before.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 21:07

It seems like the AZ is triggering too big an immune response in some people, do you think? Is it the AZ more than the mRNAs? Surely a few days at most side effects is what has been experienced and accepted in vaccines in the past, I have never had any side effects from other vaccines in the past other than a sore/stiff arm for a very short time.

TruelyWonder · 12/05/2021 21:16

Moderna is known in America for giving what the are calling Covid Arm. That seems to be more of a swelling, fluid filled massive lump and a really bad arm rash though.

Pfizer I haven't seen much more reported than the normal reports of a sight swelling and sore arm.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 21:21

I think Pfizer is the best one, wish I could return my AZ and swap for Pfizer!

Ninefeettall · 12/05/2021 21:32

Same. I feel a bit cheated tbh.
penni00 · 12/05/2021 21:59

Yes, every time there is vaccine news, it seems to be bad news about AZ and good news about Pfizer, whether it be for efficacy against variants, safety with pregnancy , safety for use on teens etc.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 22:01

Especially the level and duration of side effects

I think you should check out the European and American news then.

AZ is no better or worse side effect wise than the others. They all have reactions sometimes. Some very bad indeed but luckily most people have no problem at all.

penni00 · 12/05/2021 22:34

Oh so Pfizer not so perfect. Maybe it is time to move to the moon then......
