@tinytemper66

I will wear my mask in my classroom until I deem I am safe.
What medical qualifications do you have? Or are you just reading and believing the MSM fear agenda??
TeddingtonTrashbag · 08/05/2021 14:00

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully
Indeed!!!! (Fab name, by the way!!!)

MSM fear agenda??

What a wanky phrase.

Zandathepanda · 08/05/2021 14:11

Toomanymuslins you certainly don’t write like or have the views of any teacher I know. Fortunately.

tinytemper66 · 08/05/2021 14:27

No qualifications but we have had Covid in school the last two weeks plus before Christmas. I have managed to not get Covid. So what ever I am doing is working. My second vaccine will be in 4 weeks but I will still do what I want to do regardless of what others may do.

Unsure33 · 08/05/2021 14:28

Of course masks work .Otherwise no surgeon or nurse would ever wear one . And scientifically it has been proven to reduce risk .

However they do have to be worn and used correctly .

Having watched students when they leave school they definitely are not maintaining social distance when they take their masks off so that is probably a factor as well .

Perhaps with tests and low risk areas the change is acceptable with the proviso that is cases increased they have to come back into use .

user68901 · 08/05/2021 14:31

Masks really are not the magic bullet

Do you think they are wearing masks and social distancing while outside at breaktime in school?

This is a genuine question as I really don't know what people think the covid measures are like in schools. We've never had social distancing. We've never had masks outside.

Masks really are not the magic bullet
No measures are 'the magic bullet' They are tools in the toolbelt though (if you like an analogy)
GreyStairs · 08/05/2021 15:12

Of course covid is fucking airborne. Teachers standing at the front not wearing masks as they are 2m is stupid. One person with covid will fill the entire room wherever you are. All the research had shown that for a year.

Masks help, but not the flimsy fabric ones most kids wear these days.

freckles20 · 08/05/2021 15:20

My husband and every one of his 38 colleagues caught Covid at work despite proper mask wearing, social distancing, sanitiser, deep cleans every evening and constant cleaning throughout the day. There was no doubt that sharing the same air conditioned but tricky to ventilate building meant that no one escaped it. Masks are not necessarily the answer.

MrsTophamHat · 08/05/2021 15:28

I can't wait for my students to not have to wear masks any more.

And to have my own classroom back

And to be able to sit next to them and read their work

And do proper group/pair work again.

It's taken a lot of enjoyment out of teaching and learning.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 08/05/2021 16:25

This.
Am taking classes outside occasionally so that they can work together without masks but only works for the better behaved classes.

Uncontrolled covid transmission really took the enjoyment out of teaching and learning. The isolation Hokey Cokey. Schools being closed from Jan to March.

That was really shit for the kids.

wonderstuff · 08/05/2021 16:37

I hate masks, but we've had infection in two local schools in the last week. I'm having my first jab today and we've got teaching assistants in their 30s unlikely to get vaccines for a few weeks yet. Not to mention vulnerable students. SAGE recommended keeping them until June.

HazeyJaneII · 08/05/2021 16:45
@osbertthesyrianhamster totally agree.
If the children are coming home anxious about a virus that most don’t even know they have then likely it’s the parents projecting their fear / anxiety on to them
The media / government have done a very good job with fear. Many people have taken leave of rational thinking and risk assessment. Crazy but this aspect will also be making history
My 15 and 14 year olds read and watch the news, they talk with their friends, they see what is going on around them, notice that they have spent long periods at home and that their brother has been home shielding all year - they sort of figured out that something was up!
At times they have been a bit anxious...because let's face it the last year has had quite a lot going on, and a level if worry is pretty normal.

Toomanymuslins · 08/05/2021 17:37

Effectively learning a language is complex and relevant to mask wearing because being able to see how words are formed, not being able to see facial expressions properly (imagine someone saying good morning with a smiley, welcoming expression - different to wearing a mask) and sounds and voices being muffled.

I find it very difficult to teach with them and hope when I go back in September they have gone. As I’ve said, if other teachers wish to make mask wearing mandatory in their rooms that’s up to them.

Saltandshake82 · 08/05/2021 17:45

Good!! My ds can't see because of his glasses steaming up with mask. I bet all the teenagers touch them all say anyway!

Wherediditgo · 08/05/2021 17:47

Does it actually matter if more people catch Covid if most have been vaccinated though?!

Wherediditgo · 08/05/2021 17:49

MN seemingly wanting zero Covid again...

noblegiraffe · 08/05/2021 17:55

You think that teachers can make mask wearing mandatory in their classroom? Really? Confused

Toomanymuslins · 08/05/2021 18:04

I think you can make your own rules in your own classroom giraffe

Most of children hasn't been vaccinated yet, and someone catching and spreading covid in school means disruption of education. So, it does actually matter, imo.

If you don't object to being disciplined, yes.
Toomanymuslins · 08/05/2021 18:12

Why would you be disciplined?
