They made sure they waited until all 40s have been jabbed until they released this piece of news.

I’m still grateful for my jab nevertheless.
In other news, many cluster of Indian variant are scattered across the country and about to become a variant of concern, but of course they buried this news because its Election Day today. I’m fed up of this mess and this reactive nonsense. Why not be proactive and make sure our border defences were more robust. It’s like I told you so?! Who would have guessed?!

The advice is still only saying under 40s should be offered an alternative if available so in theory could you book an appointment and only be offered AZ?

Yes. In theory.
Tryingtryingandtrying · 08/05/2021 12:18

@LondonWFuck I found this online. Currently my area are low risk of catching covid. There are different graphs depending on outbreak, and risk does increase massively of ICU when it is circulating

Natsku · 08/05/2021 12:24

@Suranjeep

If Brexit hadn’t have happened there wouldn’t have been the resistance in mainland Europe to the AZ Oxford vaccine and people wouldn’t be having this continued discussion or concerns over it.
Eh? Are you saying that if Brexit hadn't happened, then Europe wouldn't have raised concerns about blood clots and then this conversation wouldn't be happening? Do you think the concerns were raised because of Brexit??
LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 12:25

@Tryingtryingandtrying thanks. There's a more up to date chart on another thread which shows that for women aged 40-48, the risks of ICU vs blood clot are exactly the same. I'll see if I can find it

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 12:26

40-49 even.

I just called 119 for advice and they told me my GP should be able to tell me which places are offering alternatives to AZ. Had I known that I would have called them yesterday as they are closed today! Good too know, though.

Londonwfuck It is good to see the risks like this. Easy to understand. Interesting though when you compare the rhetoric around the risk of covid to the risk of vaccine. One to be feared and one to be minimised.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 08/05/2021 13:00

Are people who survive the blood clot in the brains ending up with stroke like after effects too? Or completely cured?

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 13:01

Indeed. It's very interesting isn't it!! The covid risk is to be feared, and yet the equivalence in numerical terms of the risk of the jab is minimised, you're absolutely right.

I'm so annoyed, I was well up for this jab, even yesterday when the news changed. However, having spent ages ruminating, I've come to the conclusion it's not worth it - for me - for now. I will have the jab at some point and may even have AZ eventually. But for now I want to wait a bit (if I can't get an alternative in the coming days/weeks).

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 13:02

This is exactly what I want to know too! The mortality stats are pretty sobering in themselves, but I can't find any info on the state of those who survive.

From what I’ve read many are left with long term complications. Some recover fully.
LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 13:12

Thanks @IndigoC - that's not good news but I'm not surprised either. Treatable does not = full recovery ☹️ I hope they find better ways to treat any future cases

Raindancer411 · 08/05/2021 14:51

@LondonWFuck I called GP as am breastfeeding so hoping to hear Monday, but the receptionist didn't feel me with confidence

Oh no, sorry to hear that. I hope I haven't been given duff information ☹️

Can you please post the source for this? I've seen similar graphs from Cambridge U but trying to find this women specific one

If this happens I’ll walk. Ask if I can book for another time
LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 16:22

@NearlyAlwaysInsane someone posted it on a different thread. Not sure where they found it.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 08/05/2021 18:30

I wasn’t offered an alternative. I’m 33 and had my second dose of AZ administered today. I didn’t want an alternative to be honest.

nordica · 08/05/2021 18:37

There are no alternative second doses, those who already had AZ will have it for their second dose. Presumably you are at an increased covid risk to have had the vaccine so far ahead your age group so your personal risk vs benefit is different anyway.

Gps don't know these details generally. Is there not a phone number linked to your booking. Our Gp has nothing to do with Covid vaccinations.
beguilingeyes · 09/05/2021 06:26

I spoke to s friend today who had Long Covid. He had Covid six months ago and had lost the use of the fingers on his left hand. Nerve damage apparently. This is a scary virus.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 09/05/2021 21:07

@beguilingeyes I spoke to a friend today who has never been the same since she caught flu three years ago. She is permanently exhausted, unable to work, lots of joint pain and dizzy spells. Flu is a scary virus.

everythingbackbutyou · 09/05/2021 21:17

@littlepeas, exactly. Yes the risk is tiny, but if you are that person and the outcome is death then I am not prepared to take it, and that’s my choice.
