Have you felt safe on long train trip?

I have a long journey to make this month, which I would normally make by train, as I dislike driving on motorways. However, because this would mean being trapped breathing other people’s breath for six hours, this seems like a more risky proposition than just popping into a shop. Has anyone who has been on a long train trip recently tell me how you found the spacing between people and the air circulation?

Last time I travelled intercity I was the only passenger in my carriage for half the journey, so spacing wasn't an issue! That was when we were still in 'stay local' rules though so there may be more people travelling now, and probably depends on time of day etc. As for air circulation, it depends on the train company - the one I used the windows didn't open at all, but I'm sure others might be different. I didn't feel unsafe at all though. The number of people who are currently infectious is very small, so it's highly unlikely that one of them was sitting near you Smile

@psychomath Haha thank you so much for your reassuring message. I realise I probably sound a bit unhinged. I’ve stuck to the restrictions pretty scrupulously, but now feel like I will never feel comfortable around people again. Hope this feeling will disappear once I’m back out there!

Not the same duration but husband took a 1h intercity train trip yesterday and said it was mostly empty

If you’re worried get yourself an FFP2 or FFP3 mask (the 3M ones are the best) as it filters the air you breathe
