What's your most ridiculous covid moment?

Thought we could have a light hearted thread about covid (not intended to offend anyone. I know the whole situation has been awful and tragic and I can't wait for this to be over!)

Apart from a lot of jumping into bushes which i did early on, when walking past people in the fresh air, my most ridiculous moment came tonight.

After my son had his tea he came up to me and said "mum, that pizza tasted funny"

Cue a fairly major panic from me thinking, right, change in taste. I need to get him a test. Oh crap that means he'll miss dancing tomorrow.

Double crap we are supposed to have 2nd vaccine this week. That'll have to be rescheduled.

Triple crap! I've avoided covid this long and now I'm going to catch it 2 days before I'm fully vaccinated! (CV)

....then I remembered he had used corsodyl mouthwash just before (long story!)

Now I feel like a tit Grin Anyone else...?

Going to the supermarket and coming home and getting in the shower and bundling my clothes into the washing machine. I did that each time I went. Oh and wiping my shopping with anti viral spray. At that point we didn't really know much about transmission.

HairyFloppins · 04/05/2021 21:00

Reheating takeaway food and scrubbing the sides after the food boxes had been on them.

Quarantining post for a couple of days.

Spraying dd down with dettol spray when she got in from school.

Got covid anyway. Now I don't do any of these things.

Mine was last summer when I visited a local beach shop (all outside) with my daughter to get new beach shoes. The owner was incredibly helpful and kept kneeling down to help my 8 year old to try on the different styles of shoe and in my opinion at the time was getting far too close and touching her feet 😂....... I ended up leaving the shop and phoning my husband in tears and worrying we might have caught Covid!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 04/05/2021 21:06

I did the wiping shopping down too.

Spraying dd down with dettol spray when she got in from school.

That's a new one on me Grin

Seriously? Confused

Girlmama3 · 04/05/2021 21:16

I still do most of these 🤷‍♀️😂

Spraying dd down with dettol spray when she got in from school

Well, you can see the conversations she'll have with her kids when they moan about something.

'you think that's bad? When I was your age your nanna used to spray me down with Dettol'....

When the research first came out about covid lasting a long time on surfaces, I rinsed all my cans/jars etc in a bleach solution before storing.
Bought a bunch of spices/herbs from Morrisons - I figured they must be sealed air tight so they went in the bowl too.

When I was putting them away, I noticed the stuff as the bottom was a slightly darker shade. Closer inspection - ALL the jars had let bleach in... had to be binned which meant another trip just to replace them as I needed them that evening.

NB - after about 3 trips I got bored of this and figured if covid was contagious enough to get me via a contaminated tin of food, there was probably going to be no escaping it anyway.

Well I guess at least she didn't dip her in bleach Grin

I made DH strip at the door when he got home from work, then double masked and gloved to put his clothes in the washing machine whilst he went to shower. I cringe now thinking about it but in my defence this was in the first few weeks of the first lock down we didn’t know what we were dealing with. I also quarantined post and wiped down shopping with antibacterial wipes in the early days.

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 21:23

At supermarket had put make on. Sanitized hands. Put a baby blanket over the seat and draped over hand and all the bit 10 month old baby might touch.

As I am loading the checkout realise she had managed to get past blanket and was busy licking the dirt metal bars on the trolley.

I have realised on several occasions I can be as careful as I like. My baby has different ideas.

HairyFloppins · 04/05/2021 21:25

Yes I hold my hands up, I went temporarily insane last year, I think I spent too much time reading this board.

Smelt nice though.

Redcrayons · 04/05/2021 21:25

Wiping down shopping
Washing clothes after I’d been out
Disinfect all door handles every night before bed, even if we hadn’t been anywhere.
Took us all off to get tested when DS felt boiling hot. Not covid, but because he’d been lying in bed under a million blankets and it was 27 degrees out.

All sounds a bit mad now.

Kept my kids off school despite having two key worker parents. They did a 'remote' lesson one day and about 90% of the class were in bloody school!

Not covid related, but I used to sterilise everything religiously when my PFB was a baby. Even dummies, teethers and cutlery. Until one day I caught him licking the wheels of his pram in the porch and realised it was pointless.
IndigoC · 04/05/2021 21:31

Great thread, OP.

I’ve had many wacky moments but for me it was probably the night I was up late reading a series of articles about cats catching and potentially transmitting coronavirus. Cue my ginger cat arriving from outside and promptly sneezing on my face at close range...multiple times. Terrified I may now catch C19 via my moggy I rushed downstairs, doused my face in water, and irrigated my nasal passages with copious amounts of saline spray. 😂 [I did not catch Covid from my cat]

bumblenbean · 04/05/2021 21:33

I’ve been doing the reheating takeaway thing until very recently I have to admit 😬 it got to the point where, just as I was about to fire up the oven, I had an epiphany moment of ‘wtf are you doing, seriously’ ... I figured if I’m gonna get covid from a fucking dominos pizza then so be it.

I was also known to hold my breath whilst walking past people in the supermarket in the early days Blush

bumblenbean · 04/05/2021 21:37

@IndigoC haha I had a similar panic around my cat after reading an article like that. One time I sterilised my hands after stroking him before coming to my senses, particularly as he rarely strays beyond the garden 😆...

MsMeNz · 04/05/2021 21:39

Again early day confessions... Everything coming in to house was disinfected from Mail, food shopping etc. Envelopes and paper liberally sprayed with disinfectant.

On the other hand I was an early masker... Wearing a mask from march and everyone looking at me like I was mad and over the top turns out that wasn't so bad but at the time it was deemed nuts.

Chillychili · 04/05/2021 21:40

I quarantined post, wiped down shopping, partner would do the shopping (I was shielding) . After he had been out I would make him strip outside leave the clothes outside overnight then wash them a few days later.

If he went close to anyone (key worker but utilities company so only In extreme circumstances) I would make him sleep in the spare bedroom for 2 weeks.

Many times I cried because someone got closer than I was comfortable with on walks.

Luckily my anxiety around covid has gone now. Although we all still wash our hands when we get in, although I think that’s just a good habit to be in.

IndigoC · 04/05/2021 21:41

Same. Very thankful that I have extremely shy/homebody cats.

But I still I bought kitty litter in bulk and intended to keep my two inside after reading those articles. That ended up lasting all of two days, the cats did not approve. 😂

amicissimma · 04/05/2021 22:04

I stopped the wiping down the shopping thing when I nearly set the house on fire trying to sterilize the (delivered) newspaper in the oven.

But I had a 'moment' when church re-opened. I was wearing gloves so took one off to put on my mask. Was asked to use hand sanitiser so squirted some on my hand. Found myself with one hand full of a dollop of sanitiser and the other gloved and holding the other glove. I was completely nonplussed and just stood there, blocking the entrance, incapable of working out how to deal with this. Eventually a churchwarden took pity on me and wiped the sanitiser off with some paper towel. They've been cautious about pointing to the sanitiser when I turn up, ever since.

I have a cat and a reckon your cat totally did that on purpose, and then went and told all the other cats exactly what he'd done 😂
