What's your most ridiculous covid moment?

Thought we could have a light hearted thread about covid (not intended to offend anyone. I know the whole situation has been awful and tragic and I can't wait for this to be over!)

Apart from a lot of jumping into bushes which i did early on, when walking past people in the fresh air, my most ridiculous moment came tonight.

After my son had his tea he came up to me and said "mum, that pizza tasted funny"

Cue a fairly major panic from me thinking, right, change in taste. I need to get him a test. Oh crap that means he'll miss dancing tomorrow.

Double crap we are supposed to have 2nd vaccine this week. That'll have to be rescheduled.

Triple crap! I've avoided covid this long and now I'm going to catch it 2 days before I'm fully vaccinated! (CV)

....then I remembered he had used corsodyl mouthwash just before (long story!)

Now I feel like a tit Grin Anyone else...?

I genuinely cannot believe people have been sanitising their post and their shopping. What a world.

@Schulte Grin
The children kept going out to look at them lovingly. I was nope they still need another 24 hours Grin

Nannewnannew · 05/05/2021 10:25

Went to the pharmacy and parked outside, reminding myself to park at least 3foot from the next car!

Chickychickydodah · 05/05/2021 10:32

Gloves and 2 masks when going shopping, gloves off in the car and hand washing. All shopping washed with antiseptic wipes and also any takeaways . Washed my face and hands when I got home.
Clothes washed every time I went out.

I got COVID in March 2020 and had the gastric version. I really didn’t want it again.

BiBabbles · 05/05/2021 10:33

Near the start of lockdown 1, there was all that about running out of hand soap and things, so I ordered extra Splosh refills. Figured I'd order 1 or so of each scent for hand soap and body wash to tide us through all this extra washing we were surely going to be doing (did not happen as we went out so much less). I still have some from that order so that was a bit ridiculous.

Also, I seem to be the only person who still follows the 'call when you arrive and someone will come out and get you' rule at my dentist. After really bad issues with my jaw & teeth in December, I've had an appointment about once a month since while they've been fixing different things as weird things keep happening and setting up for future appointments as I may need surgery for a retained root but they've needed additional xrays to decide if keeping or pulling the retained root is riskier for me -- at first everyone was doing it & people were being sent out if they tried to go in, no one waited inside. Now everyone waits inside and I feel I'm only one left to the point the receptionists are all 'I can see you out there, just come in' when I call even though those are still the instructions on the door - big signs all over the door to call, that the door is locked (never is), to wait there for someone to get you, and I still follow them.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 05/05/2021 10:38

Buying isopropyl alcohol to make my own hand gel. I made a bottle of it and couldn't be bothered after. Used the remainder of the alcohol in my car mixed with the screenwash. Works a treat for dissolving any ice (and anything else) on the car!

Chosennone · 05/05/2021 10:45

Bursting in to tears when Coronation Street and Emmerdale said they were rationing episodes and only had enough to last us until Summer!

I thought this was the end of the world as we know it Blush

Ohcrapbags · 05/05/2021 10:46

The fucking palava of a takeaway arriving.

Could've cooked a three course meal myself in the time it took to get the pizza from the door and onto plates with much hand washing and wiping of surfaces inbetween each stage like the box carried the Black Death its self.

Did that twice and then it was back to pizza out the box straight from the door.

Vivana · 05/05/2021 10:54

I only wear a mask and do my hands that's it. After being a care assistant in a care home with a big covid outbreak I thought I would get it and I didn't.

I genuinely can not fathom why so many fellow Brits are so blasé and care free. I am not so much addressing the Covidiots as they are they own tribe of non believers anti vaxxers conspiracy theorists etc - but otherwise decent and law abiding citizens who are relaxed and may even buy into non (scientifically) existent herd immunity mentality. In many overseas nations and particularly who are also first world advance and with ageing and educated populations eg Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand etc have all taken Covid risk mitigation management seriously so much so that their Covid fatalities and infections are the polar opposite of ours. The British Isles could and should have easily avoided 0.1-0.2 million fatalities if the political leadership took risk mitigation seriously and not pander to short termism and now both lost lives and livelihoods. We the British public also include many who believe it is all fake news and continue ruleless behaviour assisted with light touch or non policing. Example being the recent lockdown earlier this year after Christmas festive excesses in the middle of the pandemic. Superficial face coverings and poor hand hygiene and lack of proximity awareness seems to be as much a disease itself. It only takes one asymptomatic to start a new mutating super spreading chain! Testing (proper regular accurate PCR variety) to separate, isolate and treat the ill and contagious to allow the otherwise majority healthy to keep the economy open would have helped instead of light lockdowns of majority healthy people to the detriment of mental health and wealth! What we need is more social cohesion and respect for those that may have less health privilege than you and would suffer more if "inadvertently" infected as we must going forward learn to always be mindful of our potential Covid footprint and be a part of the solution and not the problem and that is whether single or double vaccinated. Bit of an unintended rant but hindsight is such a wonderful thing! Stay safe and keep up the good work as it's not over until everyone is appropriately vaccinated and that includes young ones too as they are likewise open to long post Covid syndrome too if not worst. The past year has been a massive enforced learning curve for all so let's take the pandemic positives and onwards and upwards! Long term containment and eradication rather than pointless perpetual cycles of open and closed society! Can’t repeat past year mistakes annually.

I did this! It made terrible, thin hand sanitiser.

During the first lockdown I had a minor panic because I needed something from the shop (can't remember what it was but I seem to remember it was important at the time) but had already been for my daily exercise so couldn't leave the house.

A year ago it was thought that covid could live on surfaces for hours and hours. We didn’t have enough info for the most at risk demographics. It was so serious the world shut down. Obviously now we know more, some of these things are a bit over the top and I know I went a bit mad with it. I don’t think I was wrong to be cautious with the info available at the time.
whoamitojudge · 05/05/2021 11:19

I work in a supermarket and the only thing I did was to wash my uniform after every shift as well as shower and hair wash.
Actually I still do that now!
We still see a lot of people wearing gloves and there is a few that tell me they still clean their shopping when they get home. The latest thing though is seeing people without masks that tell us they have had both vaccines so are ok.

QwertyGirly · 05/05/2021 11:25

I actually baked bread. From sourdough starter.

As a decent and (mostly) law-abiding citizen your post is a load of cobblers. There certainly is such a thing as herd immunity - that is why we have the vaccines. We are artificially creating it - no doubt given sufficient time we would build it naturally and future generations probably will. But given we have the science to do it, the will (on most peoples part), and can save many people the misery of Covid, then we are fortunate to live in a period when we don't need to wait for it.

But Jeez, thanks so much for turning a lighthearted thread that was fun into a hysterical rant about why we must all live like hermits for the rest of our lives.

This decent and (mostly) law-abiding citizen has had enough of the "holier than thou doomsayer" rants about what I must or must not do.

Having a ‘decontamination zone’ in the utility for DH MILL when he got in from work Blush shoes were taken off and left in the garage, he had to strip off, put everything in the washer (I would pre-open the door so he didn’t touch it), have a strip wash, wash his face with a flannel, wash his hands (AND arms), then put on new clothes I’d laid out for him. I would then put the wash on a hot wash and dettol the room.

Was he working on the front line? Perhaps on a covid ward? Nope! He’s an engineer who designs cars and was sat in an office of around 10 people in a rural area Grin

To be fair, I was 8 months pregnant and we did have my elderly DM staying. Fortunately he was able to work from home after that first week!

littlepeas · 05/05/2021 11:35

Ordering about 12 different brands of oat milk from Holland and Barrett as I couldn’t get any anywhere and they only let me order 2 of each thing. It came in about 8 deliveries over the next 2 months Blush.

SpnBaby1967 · 05/05/2021 11:42

I remember crying when the schools closed as I was scared and so sad for DD as she wasnt getting the end of yr6 experience.

My first time in a supermarket I was so nervous (DH had been going as he still worked outside the home for the first couple of weeks) and would hold my breath as I walked past people. I then had a date marked in the calendar for 2 weeks on to check if I had symptoms.

Quickly after that though I came to my senses and just lived life as normally as I could.

I did catch covid in the end, probably from a kids sports club that I teach. I had it over Xmas week and all I had was an awful sore throat and the need to sleep 14 hours a night which as an insomniac was bloody blissful ! Grin

SO glad we are not the only family who did this! I was probably more at risk of a heart attack from the stress of the palaver and the screeching of “don’t touch it yet” and “right wash your hands now you’ve touched the box again), than CV from the takeaway containers itself!!
gisbons · 05/05/2021 12:05

My most ridiculous moment was when I started the threads letting people know that if they were eligible, they could book their vaccinations online.

Cue an absolute pile on on one of the threads, frothers getting indignant about people “pushing in” and all the rest of it. MNHQ deleted the threads and then refused to enter into any correspondence because they realised they’d been trigger happy and in the wrong

It’s a shame they were deleted as the thread in the Coronavirus topic in particular was absolutely heartwarming. Full of posters getting their vulnerable parents and DHs booked in. Lovely. Smile

@Howyoudoingirl

Mine happened just today. Walking from the car to the supermarket. The couple in front of me dropped one of their shopping bags. They didn't notice at first so I picked it up and called to them. The man turned around with a look of horror on his face screamed at me to drop the bag an move away. It was like something from a bad police movie I was Confused& Grin

@sqirrelfriends It was never the law to only leave the house once a day, for exercise or any other purpose.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 05/05/2021 12:56

In the first lockdown, I started wearing a mask (I also had a Trigeminal neuralgia attack at the time & breathing my own hot huff rather than the triggering bitter wind that day, using a mask has always helped).

Standing in the socially distanced, Soviet style snaking queue at Sainsbury’s, a huge bloke came over to me & started yelling, “Why are you wearing mask? This Wuflu is all lies, you look fucking stupid!” and other choice phrases.

I pulled myself into my full 5ft height, fuelled by pain probably, locked eyes with him & shouted,

“Let’s play a game of Fuck Off. You go first.”

The whole queue erupted in applause and the bloke stomped off.

Mandatory mask wearing came in the next week.
@sqirrelfriends It was never the law to only leave the house once a day, for exercise or any other purpose.
Yet, my friend was stopped by a matrix van and surrounded by police who issued him with a £30 fine because they had seen him walking his dog earlier that day. He paid it immediately. Didn't challenge it even after the Dominic Cummings scandal. He just completely gave up and was scared to leave the house for a long time after that. He already suffered with anxiety and PTSD.
We live a distance from him but my son travelled in taxis a couple of times to leave shopping on his doorstep. The sad thing is, there's both an asda and an aldi literally at the end of his street and a co-op and grocery stores at the other end. He just couldn't step outside his front door.
