Holiday in Wales

Can anyone clarify whether I can travel from England to Wales to stay in a holiday cottage? We are planning to stay from the 14th to the 21st May and have received all our booking confirmation. My friend has just messaged to say they are planning to close borders again but I can’t find any evidence of this. Not sure what to think. Any advice appreciated.

Yes at the moment you would be able to. I haven't heard anything about them closing the boarders and I live in Wales.

We’re going in August hopefully. I think that Wales are doing well with vaccines, they’ve jabbed the majority of 30-39s now, so hammering their important hospitality/tourist industry wouldn’t make sense to me. We’ll see though.

I live in England but only 2 miles from the Welsh border. I haven't heard anything about them closing borders again. Why would they? Cases are still reducing in both countries.

Yes you can travel into Wales. Where on earth did your friend get their info?

Thanks for the replies and the reassurance! No idea where she heard it but she was pretty convinced!

I also live in Wales and have heard nothing about closing the borders. We've got an election next week so in theory anything could happen after that (but in practice it's almost certain that we'll still have either a Labour government or a coalition government with Labour as the biggest part of it.)

Next week? This week! Somehow I missed that the week had started - I blame the bank holiday!

I’m in wales too and work in holiday accommodation. You can come, as a single household, for a holiday in self contained accommodation! I’ve heard nothing about closing borders - that would fuck us right up.

I’ve not heard anything about borders closing and I look at the BBC Wales news website twice daily. I also live on the border; I’ve crossed it twice today and there is no evidence at all of this. Numbers are very low and Wales have done well in vaccinating, although I am in the South, not the North, by the way. I think your friend is talking nonsense!
Having said that, the current first minister wouldn’t hesitate in border closure, if numbers significantly raised again. I’m confident of that!

Yes, you can. I live in South Wales but have a holiday home in west Wales which we've been to several times since it was allowed. Loads of Saes accents in Tenby Grin

As long as your holiday accommodation is self contained snd you only holiday with your household/support bubble, it is allowed. Outdoor attractions reopened last Monday too.

However please be respectful of locals and follow social distancing and wear your mask when asked. More rural areas of Wales did much better than the UK generally in the peaks of the outbreak and they are understandably nervous about the influx of tourists.
