As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Absolutely delighted that Dame Kate got a gong.

I hope she does Desert Island Discs soon.

I was fascinated to hear on Radio 4 recently that she is actually a staunch Remainer and thinks she could perfectly well have spearheaded a successful venture capitalist effort for vaccines within the EU Wink [runs and hides].

nonono1 · 13/06/2021 06:41

Without wanting to be downbeat, weren’t the numbers relatively low yesterday for a Saturday?

Bordois · 13/06/2021 11:15

2nd doses were down, but I think that's because we are now getting through to those 1st jabbed end of march / start of April, which was when 1st doses dropped.

1st doses went up, so hopefully they will start going up while 2nd doses drop.

Hope I've explained that well!

We probably need booster doses to start soon for the most vulnerable, maybe that will make space for them

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/06/2021 12:00

@DdraigGoch

Presumably she could call 119
119 cannot help you, even if you know your NHS number; you have to go through a GP. You can write to an office somewhere (snail mail only, no email available) whose address they can give you, or you can complain to your local Health trust about it, but that's about all the action available.

504,957 vaccinations in Flag of England yesterday - 228,144 1st doses, 276,813 2nd doses

other nations reporting later

SomethingOnce · 13/06/2021 13:28

My second jab has been brought forward a month from July. I’m sure it won’t make that much difference to the level of protection and it’s good to get the second doses done so boosters can begin ahead of the respiratory virus season.

DdraigGoch · 13/06/2021 14:44

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime in which case the best option is to find one of the mass vaccination events being laid on in areas of low take up.

In the meantime they should contact their MP.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/06/2021 15:13

The MP in both the GP-less cases I know about has been as much use as a chocolate teapot; and

"An NHS spokesperson said: “Even if people are not registered with a GP they will still be contacted when the vaccine is available to them through a national booking service and using NHS numbers.”"

has not happened in either case.

I did have this wild idea that people were being encouraged to get the vaccine, but it seems that only applies if they have a GP. Walk-in turned one of them away for not having GP; the other didn't try because there was no walk-in in her area.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 13/06/2021 16:27

Blocky is bringing the numbers to you today. Looking good I think.

Not sure if buttery's prediction of us getting to 80% and 60% at the same time will come true. However we should be fairly close.

Looking like first doses are now picking up again too. Fingers crossed.

Here’s an interesting thing:-

78.9% + 56.6% = 135.5%.

This is more than 133.3% which is 4/3.

Means that (jab wise) we are more than two thirds of the way to having every adult in the country double vaccinated.

Covid vaccination: All adults in Wales offered first jab

I expect like previous over 50s announcement they'll be a few missed though the announcements should mean they know to chase up.

Data published by Public Health Wales on Sunday shows 2,213,050 people have been given a first vaccine dose - 70.2% of the population.

It doesn't sound to bad - they say there hoping for 75% take-up in 18-35 age group in next few weeks so that will add to overall % and they're hoping to get all the second jabs done by September.

Some walk-ins explicitly allow it and others don't, can you confirm the region? Also could they not sign up to a GP anyway? It doesn't take very long to do and it's generally useful. They don't have to have any particular immigration status to register with a GP.
MRex · 14/06/2021 14:37

Anyway, I popped in to share this nice view from Our World in Data of covid vaccinations, the percentage looks lower because it's full population but you can see we're getting there and it's pleasing to see a range of other countries are doing really well too. You can adjust for other countries you're interested in at the link: ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations.

The two Covid vaccines most in use in the UK are "highly effective" in preventing hospital admission with the Delta variant, new data from Public Health England suggests.

Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca jabs can cope with the variant first identified in India as the Alpha variant first identified in Kent, the research found.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was found to be 94% effective against hospital admission after just one dose, and 96% after two doses.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was found to be 71% effective against hospital admission after one dose, and 92% after two doses.

PHE says the protection against death is expected to be high, although further research is taking place.

So... Boris he say - 23 & 24 yr olds can book from tomorrow...so I went straight on the booking site - already a short queue and DS aged 23 is now booked for Saturday. Hurray

So you young whippersnappers can now book!

TruelyonelastSchlep · 14/06/2021 18:27

By 19 July they aim to have double jabbed two-thirds of the adult population

That's everyone over 50, all the vulnerable, all frontline health and care workers and over 40s who received their first dose by mid-May.

Over 40s will have their second jabs accelerated

23 to 24-year-olds will be invited to book jabs tomorrow or as mateysmum has just said it is working already 🥳

MRex · 14/06/2021 19:09

DN 23 is booked, so that's one more who got in, he said there was a big queue. Thanks!

Hi everyone. Not been on here for a long while.

DD1, 23, booked her jab late last night, hospital in London. Three weeks time though... and second not until Sept. Hope they can bring that forward. Want DD2, 18, done and dusted before going to Uni.

DH says all adults 18+ will be able to book by the end of this week! Keep watching the website.
