Worried.....I have my AZ 1st jab tomorrow

Hi I'm 36 and have my first jab booked tomorrow. It's the AZ. I'm really worried. I think I'm going to refuse it. I can imagine afterwards I'd be in a state of worry and am thinking it's not worth it. What are you're opinions ? Would you have the AZ ?

I had mine on Thursday. I had been unsure about the AZ due to my medical history but after speaking to my GP, who reassured me that it was safe for me and that it would be more risky to be unvaccinated than have the AZ, I had it and despite the side effects I've had, I'd have it again. I will definitely get the 2nd one.

Canyouexplainhowthatis · 26/04/2021 14:52

I personally wouldn’t have AZ. I’m 32.

Walkaround · 26/04/2021 16:39

Hi, @Lou2284 - well, tbh, it’s normal to be anxious about a vaccination. I’m always anxious before my vaccinations. It’s not as if any have zero side effects, and the AZ vaccine is not the only one ever created with potentially serious side effects. I just went ahead with mine - I have no reason whatsoever to suppose I will be one of the colossally unlucky ones and then further unlucky enough to be one of the unlucky few of the exceptionally unlucky few who then die.

I personally would rather have my vaccine while there are vaccines available and while covid rates are low than seek it when rates are high so that I’m scared of getting covid while waiting for the vaccine to start working, or already having covid while being vaccinated. I also want to limit my chances of being ill with anything when hospitals are busy with another covid surge, so better imvho, to get it over and done with now, when there is capacity to deal with most things.

mumwon · 26/04/2021 16:47

@Walkaround good point

murbblurb · 26/04/2021 16:48

Much higher chance of clots if you get covid.

You have a choice. Cancel it if you don't want it, don't waste a precious resource.

MistyMargaret · 26/04/2021 16:49

Israel is reporting a suspected link between the Pfizer vaccine and incidences of myocarditis (an infection of the heart muscle, often a post-viral complication). Ask yourself why this is so under-reported. Why was the AZ blood clot link international front page news for weeks while nobody is talking about Pfizer concerns. Think about the financial stakes of the respective vaccines.

bearandowl · 26/04/2021 16:53

Cancel the appointment. Don't be bullied into taking it.

Delatron · 26/04/2021 17:01

How is the OP being bullied? Ridiculous. Most are exasperated and highlighting they can’t tell her what to do and if she doesn’t want the appointment give it to someone else...

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/04/2021 17:05

I had AZ on Saturday and, despite feeling a bit rough Sunday, have no regrets. You are at higher risk of blood clots if you take the pill or fly long haul. Not to mention if you actually catch COVID which makes the blood extremely sticky and prone to clotting.

DeclineandFall · 26/04/2021 17:12

It's fine to be nervous. I was and I've been desperate to get my vaccine. I got AZ. The clot risk is v small and it is treatable now they know what they are dealing with. Covid on the other hand could bring you all sorts of horrible problems. Having lost 3 years to a post viral condition I wouldn't wish Long Covid on my worst enemy.

Canyouexplainhowthatis · 26/04/2021 17:14

@MistyMargaret I wouldn’t say the Pfizer issue is underreported.

Also, CVST combined with thrombocytopenia is FAR more dangerous than myocarditis which is extremely common after any viral infection and usually self resolves.

Tumbleweed101 · 26/04/2021 17:32

I had mine on Wednesday. I was reluctant given how new the vaccine is and the potential side effects of clots. I'm still not 100% happy with my choice. However, it is a gamble that is for the good of everyone. If we can get herd immunity then my family are protected in the future from lockdowns etc and it lows the risk in the community as a whole. I found it difficult as I've not been overly scared of catching covid. My children has it mildly so I had exposure but didn't catch it. I did an antibody test to see if I had obvious antibodies but it came back negative. I think if it has come back positive I would have skipped the jab for now.

So yes , it is a tricky decision. It depends on how the pro and cons weigh up. Currently I've been fine since having it and only had mild side effects.

Tumbleweed101 · 26/04/2021 17:33

Sorry phone keeps changing had to has

Phial · 26/04/2021 18:09

Lots of threads on this same subject in the last few days. Are there any particular queries/concerns you have that have not been covered on those?

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 18:12

I've had mine.
No side effects whatsoever, and I feel safer now cases are popping up at school again.
I can't understand why people can't rationalise the minimal risk just like they would with other medications.

Spodge · 26/04/2021 18:15

I have had dose 1 of AZ and have my second one next month.

I am in my 50s but I would have it at any age and be glad of it.

I got some fatigue for 12 hours after my first jab and my arm felt a bit sore for about a week. I'll take that over Covid any day.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 26/04/2021 20:35

I have had my first jab, AZ, and am looking forward to my second.

I had no after effects whatsoever, not even a sore arm.

But I feel SO much more relaxed to know that to a high degree I am protected. I just feel less ‘alert’ and on edge going about my daily business (still observing the rules of course, but I feel that is now ‘for society’ rather than me being at risk of catching it).

I love hearing in the news how effective it is, how it had contributed to lower infection rates etc.

So I feel fat LESS worried havjng had the jab.

CoolShoeshine · 26/04/2021 20:52

I’ve had the az recently and totally understand why you are worried as I was too. Lots of overthinking, similar to when I go on a plane and worry about crashes. Most of the stuff that worried me I’d read on here.
I went ahead with it and have to admit I haven’t thought about it much since, apart from the first day after when I felt a bit drowsy. You soon forget about it once it’s over.

RainbowMum11 · 26/04/2021 21:05

I am 41 and had mine about 8 weeks ago - no probs at all.

Just go for it, the risks are smaller than flying or a long car journey when it comes to DVT.

Notthemessiah · 26/04/2021 21:33

Not going to lie, I had it six weeks ago just as this stuff was starting to come out and then worried about it for the next four weeks - it didn't help that they kept extending the time period for something to go wrong. I had a stress headache for fairly much the whole time, which of course made me worry all the more - bit of a vicious circle unfortunately.

Now though I am of course glad I had it and wonder why I worried all that time.

It's very easy for people to point out odds, or that the benefits outweigh the risks but then you know this is an irrational worry - facts aren't going to make a difference and you will worry about it regardless.

That said, I worried about COVID for fairly much all of the past year and now, because of the vaccine, that fear has fairly much gone, so short term it may be more worry, but longer term it will be better all round.

ConstantlyChanging · 26/04/2021 22:26

Don’t let anyone else dismiss your perfectly valid fears or bully you. The fact is that this is an emerging situation and information will continue to come to light. You should accept the vaccine at the point where you feel we have enough information. There ARE other vaccines.

ApplesinmyPocket · 26/04/2021 22:32

I had it (no problems) and so did my daughter, aged 32 - also no problems.

thegcatsmother · 26/04/2021 22:49

@mumwon I have ITP as well, and I have had one dose of AZ, and am waiting for my second. I think I was at greater risk of developing a blood clot when I was on the pill.

Blondiney · 26/04/2021 23:05

I cancelled my appointment last week because I didn't want to get there, refuse and waste everybody's time. It was the right decision for me, mentally I was not in a good place.

Emma2021 · 26/04/2021 23:18

@roguetomato

If you have decided to refuse it, just refuse it and move on. You don't need to start a thread and scare others just because you are scared and decided not to have it.
What a crass thing to say. OP has every right to air their feelings and seek opinions. And if the OP and millions of others were not already feeling uncertain about the vaccines people like you don't help

OP, you are young and I persum fit and if i was in your shoes, I may have cancleed now with the clots news. However, before the clots news I would have bitten your hand off for the jab. They have already said re sub 30 and chat re sub 40 group so i see where you are coming from

I've got ours and was worried sick and still worry but on blanace its less risker than Covid, so its vaccine for me all day long. However, if I was aged between 30 and 40 and with the clots news re AZ, I may be temepted to wait but it is YOUR choice and please cancel if you are not going as many are waiting.

Todays news shwed 8% had not turned up or canclled their vaccine appointment - it was on the BBC after 9pm did not catch all of it, but the 8% is higher than the pre clot news of 4% - I will post the link and also confirm 100% this is what was said.

Therefore, only you can decide and it is a hard decision for you.

good luck
