Test siblings?

Twins. Twin 1 had a temperature, twin 2 absolutely fine. Have tested twin 1 with home test, negative result. Preschool age so not an easy process. Do I test twin 2 before return to nursery tomorrow or is there no point? Can't find the answer anywhere. Sorry if a stupid question.

Home tests are no good if you have symptoms. You need to get a pcr test.

ImTheWolfToday · 25/04/2021 09:51

Only those with symptoms need a test. When you say home test though do you mean home PCR that you sent off for the result, or a lateral flow? It should be a PCR for symptomatic individuals.

Sorry, to be clearer. The temperature was Thursday and we stayed home
isolated etc at home and in the garden as no work / nursery thursday fridays etc anyway. Has been well since thursday night( temperature lasted approx 2 hours and was fine by bedtime!) and not displaying any symptoms for last so on advice from nursery manager on friday afternoon phone call have done a rapid home test today prior to tomorrow. So she is symptom free.

The nursery’s advice is incorrect. If there are symptoms, you need to do a PCR.

I don’t understand why the nursery told you on Friday, so 24h after onset of symptoms, to do a lateral flow. The guidance has been clear all along, a PCR is needed ASAP if someone displays symptoms.

I don’t get how people still don’t know this.

Thank you. I shall arrange a pcr test.

The nursery have given you incorrect advice.

When your child had the temperature you should've done a PCR test, not a lateral flow/rapid test. They aren't to be used with someone who is or was showing symptoms.

Twin 1 needs a pcr and everyone else in the household needs to isolate until you get the result.

LFD "home" tests are also not validated in young children, we have absolutely no idea on how accurate they are.
