Amnesia after AstraZeneca?

So I’m putting the feelers out to see if anyone else has experienced this or knows anyone who has. 3 days after her first vaccine my mum suffered from what they are calling transient global amnesia where she lost all short term memory for half a day. The doctors have been slow, they’re doing some blood tests now to rule out clotting disorders before she has her second dose but regardless we aren’t happy about her having it. There is a chance this was coincidence but I want to put this out to see if anyone else had/knows of anyone else out there who had this or anything like it?

I do hope you have reported this on the yellow card scheme. I don't personally know anyone this has happened to, but my world is very small.

Bonifacethethird · 21/04/2021 14:29

Not my own experience but I've seen this mentioned a few times (for Pfizer and JJ)

General memory loss rather than amnesia ^

CocoSims · 21/04/2021 14:33

@Coyoacan yes my dad reported it via yellow card.

@Bonifacethethird thanks for these that’s really interesting. Hers was full blown amnesia though, she didn’t even know what covid was, lasted around 6 hours.

Could it have been a mini-stroke?

CocoSims · 21/04/2021 14:36

@QwertyGirly no she didn’t have any of the other characteristics of a stroke. She was fully capable mentally and physically, just complete short term memory loss. She was diagnosed as having TGA by the doctor, he was sure it wasn’t a stroke.

I have just googled to see if there was any info on links between Astrazeneca and TGA.

I had my second jab on the 26th May with no side effects. On Wednesday my mum went into hospital by ambulance. I remember waving her off. Then nothing until my husband came home from work yesterday afternoon after a series of bizarre phone calls from me that I know nothing about.

I was advised by 111 to go to A&E which I did. I was there for six and a half hours although it felt more like 30 minutes because I was so spaced out. The doctor felt it was brought on by stress and sent me home to rest but I am curious that there might be a link between the amnesia and the vaccine.
