Do I need to test him again?

DS (3) had a fever on Friday and tested
negative on Saturday. He had a bit of a snotty nose on Saturday and Sunday. Then went to nursery and was fine on Monday.
Tuesday, he’s had a fever again and is now coughing.
Do I test again? Or is this a continuation of the infection that already tested negative?
For context, this would be his seventh test and he finds them understandably upsetting. But we can’t isolate for 10 days without testing as DH needs to go in to work and older DS to school.
Thanks!

I would test again. I have a friend who tested negative after a day of symptoms, then repeated the test 3 days later (when the symptoms were worse) and tested positive. It's easier for an adult though, pretty miserable for a 3 year old. But I guess if they wriggle a lot and you didn't manage to get a good swab (no criticism) then the first result could have been a false negative.

I think so yes. I feel for you... I can't imagine how I would've managed to test either of my kids at that age.

What did you decide to do OP?

I tested him again. I knew I would, I just wanted some validation! Thanks everyone!
Oh and it was negative.
