It's a delayed covid press conference.

Tealightsandd · 20/04/2021 15:21

Maybe he's had his roots done.

ConstantlyChanging · 20/04/2021 15:25

Good news! The Indian variant is here so we’ll make anyone travelling from there quarantine from Friday...

Rosehip10 · 20/04/2021 15:36

Why do people STILL think these press conferences always mean Boris has something to say? It will just be he typical slides and vague comments on stuff that the 5pm conference always are.

I think they were cancelled during the national morning. Any clues on Twitter?

Etinox · 20/04/2021 16:02

Mourning 😳

RedMarauder · 20/04/2021 16:03

He's just going to waffle and mention India.

CoffeandPancakes · 20/04/2021 16:40

Oh, is it not on BBC 1?

Elieza · 20/04/2021 16:59

The first minister of Scotland today announced that anyone coming back to Britain from India from Friday will have to isolate in a hotel. Not just returning to Scotland, England too. Thankfully. We don’t want that variant spreading all over the country.

If that hasn’t been announced yet in England then that’s one of the things Boris will be on about.

Tealightsandd · 20/04/2021 17:00

What's the point of waiting until Friday?

LondonWFuck · 20/04/2021 17:00

I think it was announced in England yesterday.
Elieza · 20/04/2021 17:06

Thanks both.

I agree, the wait is just letting more potential carriers into the country. But if England hasn’t done the enforced hotel quarantine before it may take time to set up legislation or procedures?

Whichjab · 20/04/2021 17:07

Nice bit of propaganda by the medical director

Peregrina · 20/04/2021 17:08

Perhaps he's going to talk about the footie.

Got to give the virus a fighting chance.
CrunchyCarrot · 20/04/2021 17:10

Hmm research is being done into more anti-virals. That's a good thing.

The BBC are saying that from Friday some will be refused entry if they are travelling from India.

It's a call to anyone who hasn't responded to their invitation to make an appointment.

1 in 5 adults have now had their 2 jab

A Dr Kanani is discussing, I'm a very calm and clear manner, the increase in information and uptake for BAME communities

Ticker tape about football and the EMA continue to say vaccine benefits outweigh any issues

Anyone think this will be excuse they want to slow down the road map ?

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/04/2021 17:17

He started with a very firm statement that there is no reason to slow.down.

And he is outlining how they keep an eye on all countries to keep the list up to date to facilitate that. And that he doesn't make the decision, it's the JVC that does that.

UK plans for two pills to treat Covid 'by autumn'

The UK wants to identify and deploy two effective treatments for Covid that can be taken as a tablet or capsule by the autumn, the government has announced just ahead of Boris Johnson's press conference.

People would be able to take them at home following a positive test or exposure to the virus to reduce the chance of spreading the virus and speed up recovery, the Department of Health said.

Finding the treatments will be the job of a new Antivirals Taskforce, which is being asked to search for the most promising medicines and to support their development through clinical trials.

The taskforce is also being asked to look at whether the treatments can be manufactured in the UK.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said they would be "another vital defence against any future increase in infections".

Chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said antiviral drugs "could help protect those not protected by or ineligible for vaccines. They could also be another layer of defence in the face of new variants of concern."

The taskforce is modelled on the Vaccines Taskforce which was responsible for securing the UK's supply of vaccines.
