LFT accurate with symptoms?

Hi all.

There are some very knowledgeable people on here so I wondered does anyone know this. I know LFTs are meant for asymptomatic cases and that with symptoms you show go for a PCR test, but does anyone have any info as to whether LFTs are still actually accurate with symptoms? Is telling people to go for a PCR just a precaution so they get it done ‘properly’ I suppose? Thank you!

Three people in this house tested positive on lateral flow tests with mild cold-like symptoms. So yes they worked for us. When you register the positive lft result you are told to book a pcr test for confirmation.

I think the concern is they show as negative when in actual fact you have covid, we all tested negative on the Friday but then clear positive on the Monday. Perhaps a pcr would have shown as positive sooner? It didn't make any difference as we were already self-isolating having been in contact with someone who had tested positive.

they are by far not as acurate as pcr tests. and even if you have covid-19 a lft might give a false negative.

they give too many false negatives. Dd1 tested negative on lf's including one on the same day as the positive pcr. She was in si due to close contact with someone who had been picked up on a lf and never got any symptoms.

They are good for picking up some asymptamatic people who would not normally know to si but don't pick up enough cases to be reliable enough when you have symptoms.

To be honest if it wasn't for the lateral flow tests we wouldn't have tested at all as we didn't have any of the qualifying symptoms, so in that respect they were a godsend.
