Swollen glands after AZ?

someoneiou · 18/04/2021 20:43

Christ I feel dreadful. Can barely swallow and it's painful. I can feel my bulging glands when I touch them on my neck. Feel like I have a really bad flu.

I've had Covid in the past and didn't feel this crappy.

I've read up on AZ side effects and it says it's a "rare" side effect.

Anyone else this? How long does it last? And should I be concerned?

I had it, but it was a gland in my armpit. It was so very sore, and I struggled to write on the board at school for several days. It went down really slowly, and it was a good couple of weeks before it was back to normal.
I also got a horrendous skin infection, which took two lots of antibiotics to sort over a four week period.
Needless to say I’m not having the second jab.

someoneiou · 18/04/2021 22:16

Oh wow @FenceSplinters that sounds horrific.

How do I report my side affect?

Yes I had afte rmy second pzeizer jab.
Particularly lymph node unde rmy arm. Awful. Lasted about 4 days.

Hyacinth88 · 18/04/2021 22:20

To report goofle yellow card reporting

Earlgrey666 · 18/04/2021 22:23

I had this after both pfizer vaccines, worse when I had the second. I also had a swollen and sore armpit glands. I assume it's your immune system doing it's thing.

HSHorror · 18/04/2021 23:58

Have you had glandular fever?

Torvean · 19/04/2021 00:58

Swollen glands can happen. If you're part of a vaccine trial they always check your lymph nodes after you had a vaccination a few week before.

OhScurvyCompanion · 19/04/2021 01:03

FenceSplinters - are you sure it wasn’t shingles? Was it burning? That’s what I’ve got. Symptoms included swollen armpit gland and painful burning rash. GP suggested a link with the vaccine, which I had in Feb

Swollen armpit glands here too. I just assumed it was my immune system working. And teenage spots. And I'm many years past being a teenager!

Notagain20 · 19/04/2021 16:51

Swollen armpit and neck here too, after second pfizer. Am either asleep or doing giant yawns all the time. Day 3

@HSHorror

Have you had glandular fever?
I was going to ask exactly the same question. There is a gathering body of evidence that suggests that the immune reaction to Covid can reactivate the Epstein Barr virus - it is beginning to be considered that this reaction may be a primary cause of long Covid. It is possible that the immune reaction to the vaccine may "kick" a pre-existing viral reaction similarly. But it seems to be very temporary in most people, and a couple of weeks - often on and off - in bad cases.

I had it some swollen glands after the second Pfizer and my throat felt like it had crushed glass in it for a couple of days. I had exactly the same but for weeks when I had Covid. And I have had glandular fever. My friends son got his throat swollen so badly that they rushed him into hospital to check for cancer - turned out it was Covid but he literally had no other symptom at all (he's 15, so no vaccine, but he had glandular fever a couple of years ago).

So it seems there is something going on, but its still under investigation and really shouldn't be anything to worry about. If you are worried though, phone your GP.

ScottishStottie · 19/04/2021 17:08

Thats really interesting about the potential link with the vaccine and glandular fever virus!

I had glandular fever when i was at uni, amd after the vaccine, i had swollen glands and was very tired, still have random bouts of tiredness a few weeks on. Hadnt thought of the connection but it does make sense!

Completely normal.

I had this. I was told by nhs that if i was having breast screening, to let them know. I think its due to swollen lymph nodes under the arm.

@HSHorror

Have you had glandular fever?

Yes! Many years ago though... probably close to 16 years ago. Is it a factor?

I had my second AZ this morning. By early afternoon the one behind my ear was up and I had earache.

I'm fine now. It could have been the vaccine, I suppose. But it came and went very quickly
