Worried about mutant strains

I honestly don’t think my mental health will cope with another lockdown. I’m so fed up of everyday wondering how long it will be. I’m fed up of wearing a bloody mask and not being able to breathe. I’m fed up

OP posts:

The media have so much to answer for, I would stop checking the news, maybe look once a week or have someone else do it for you and tell you of anything important but just start doing anything you enjoy as often as you can.
I'm totally fed up of just wasting time, I want to enjoy this summer and take my kids to the beach, to parks and farms etc. Without the news constantly making me wonder if we should all just stay at home in the garden.
Every new strain they seem to say the same but I don't think anything actually changed in the end

I know exactly what you mean OP. It just feels like every time there is a little spark of hope and you think that finally the end may be near, it’s snatched away from you with terrible news.

There are a lot of people whose mental health have been very badly impacted due to the constant fear in the news.

@Thedarksideofthemoon30 totally understand how you feel. The news have a lot to answer for, but so does this section of MN. There are a lot of very worried people on here who are picking up on negative articles and posting on here about them.

This section has caused my worries to spiral even more at certain points in time and I wished I had stayed off it, but just couldn't. It's definitely fed my anxiety.

Useruseruserusee · 16/04/2021 11:31

I understand how you feel OP. It helps me to focus only on the present and the situation right now. If we do get mutant strains becoming prevalent in the country, we will have to deal with that when it comes. There is no point in me as an ordinary citizen with no power over policy worrying about it now.

Honestly I am just taking all this shit with a pinch of salt now. If the government were that worried about importing variants they’d actually do something to try and prevent it such as closing the border and/or imposing proper quarantine. They can’t be that much of a “concern” if the government are continuing to do fuck all.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/04/2021 11:39

I know how you feel too. I thought I would have the cloud of anxiety lifted when I got the vaccine. Then I discovered the AZ vaccine has reduced effectiveness against the South African strain.

I hate not knowing what's going to happen so I've recently started to to plan around what I think is the most likely scenario.

Would you feel better if you read my prediction? I think we're on the way out of this horrible situation now, all the vaccine manufacturers are working on modifying the vaccines to improve their efficacy against new strains. But there might be some blips between now and the end of the year. Hopefully though any lockdowns will be short, maybe 3 weeks ? and localised. The government really won't want to have endless lockdowns. We can't afford them.

Also, The government might well be using the fear of new variants to force greater compliance with the restrictions.
