Spacing between doses - AZ

I'm 8 weeks after my first dose and have my second appt booked for May. But a local vaccination hub has said that if you've had AZ 8 weeks ago plus you can be added to their list for spare vaccines at the end of the day.

I'm not especially worried about the second dose but would like to get it over and done. But at the same time, is there any reduction in efficacy by not waiting 12 weeks? I can find info online for 6 weeks vs 12 weeks but nothing else. What would you do?

My second vaccine is booked and it’s just 10 weeks. I would definitely take it if offered sooner to be fully immunised.

I don't understand why they're doing this instead of offering to people in their 40s who need a first dose.

Anyway, it's probably not much difference OP. There is slightly higher efficacy the later people had it on trials, but on an individual level the difference between 9 and 12 weeks is unlikely to have much impact.

@MRex re the later efficiency does this then decline if extended a little beyond the 12 weeks? Or are we not aware of this?

I would insist on the 12 weeks.
All the evidence suggests that the effect continues to improve over 12 weeks. They haven't tested longer gaps but they have tested shorter gaps and 12 weeks was the best.
My personal experience was that I had zero antibodies at 6 weeks but had some by 10 weeks. I have regular tests for research.

That's what I'm inclined to think Boph. I'm (newly) CEV so it makes a difference to my mindset, if that makes sense.

My ECV friend has just had her second dose at eight weeks. Regarding effectiveness, I can't comment on whether it was the right thing to do, but she was extremely grateful to have her second vaccine as she'll be returning to work next week in a non distancing non wearing mask job.

Mine was 10 weeks. I was contacted by my GP for my second appointment.

I don't know, it hasn't been tested. A week or two either way shouldn't make a lot of difference.

Yes that's the other thing, I'm starting a job in a new school on Monday with no idea what their SD etc is like. There doesn't seem like a right answer here.

As to why they're offering a waiting list for second doses, who knows. They say they're fully booked for first vaccines.
