Appointments for second injections

I had my first jab (Astrazenca - only mild side effects, if anyone's interested) at the start of the month. The pharmacist didn't say anything about my second injection so I asked as I was leaving and he just said that I should have it in 12 weeks' time - from which I took that I could just sort it out later and made a note on my calendar to enquire about booking it nearer the time.

Now I'm seeing people on here booking their vaccinations via the national booking system where they have to book their second appointment at the same time - but also it seems that it is more difficult to book a second appointment, possibly because centres don't know what supply they will have that far in advance so some aren't taking bookings yet.

Did anyone else just make their second appointment nearer the time - or do I need to get something booked in now? The impression I got was to book it nearer the time but I don't want to end up in the position where I can't get an appointment and everyone I speak to says "well, of course, we all arranged it 12 weeks in advance, you can't expect to get an appointment at this short notice...."

Just go on NHS vaccination booking site. When you input your details it will automatically know you are booking a second dose. You will then be given a choice of dates within the 12 week window since your first dose.

Just to say I had my first AZ dose at a GP hub. Then I got a text 4 weeks later to book the second dose.

As I think it is too soon to have the second dose as it works better with a longer gap, in March I booked on the National site for the second dose to be done in early May.

I see your point but your GP is asking / telling you to book it now which would make me a bit suspicious as they seem very proactive.

As in get in now or soon while we can get it done for you.

If you book via GP you don’t get your second appointment until nearer the 12 week mark. I’m 7/8 weeks post first dose and waiting to hear from them still. I did call to double check a couple weeks ago and they confirmed they’d contact me to book in.

I had mine at a GP hub. I've just had a text to book my next one 10 weeks later.

Dh didn't get given a second date at the time but I did at my first appointment 3 weeks later. Our ccg is working to 11 weeks between and will send text prompts to book nearer the time.

I had mine in a vaccine centre in Sheffield. They gave me a card and said my second vaccine would be exactly 12 weeks to the day and the appointment time was the exact same. Seems like a good approach!

I just went onto the nhs booking site. It says because I have had my first I have to wait for the GP to get in touch to book my second. Hope that helps!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/04/2021 12:21

Mine was automatically booked for the same time/ day about 10 wks later.

I had the text from the GP and booked through Swiftqueue.

I was done via a GP hub (group 4, CEV) and got the text link to book part 2 after 10 weeks and had second jab at 11 weeks

I'd say it depends how you got your first appointment. If by letter or GP, then they'll be in touch. If on national booking system, I'd try that. I qualified through work and was given a qr code at my first appointment.
