Family swimming?

Do we know when we can take the kids swimming again? Not lessons, not lanes - just for fun.

I've heard of one pool already doing this. So I suspect it's up to the pool and their set up. The pool in my town isn't yet.

Wizzbangfizz · 14/04/2021 19:00

Our gym is doing it!

Thatwentbadly · 14/04/2021 19:01

Now. Our local council has family swim sessions.

frozendaisy · 14/04/2021 19:01

Let's keep this thread open we are reaching "desperate" to go for a family swim now. Totally concur lanes/lessons have their place but it's different.

Kid's lessons this weekend we shall badger reception staff! Or ask politely more realistically.

leafinthewind · 14/04/2021 19:02

I'm jealous! Our three closest pools are all run by the same company and have the same 'lanes only' policy Sad

Our council run pool is doing it, they’ve got dedicated family swim times.

Nikki305 · 14/04/2021 20:12

Our council pools are doing this in Leeds. You book a section of the pool and get it all to yourself. Better than normal times!

itsgettingwierd · 14/04/2021 20:37

Ours are doing it.

Lanes swims are for certain times. Clubs and lessons all returned for their times.

Then lanes are split into sections at other times and a family books their section.

Spaces are limited because obviously they are trying to juggle meeting the needs of a whole community.

But our pools with flumes etc are all open too.

Lane swimming only at my local pool which I use. My kids all use the smaller pool and hasn’t been open since last March. Wasn’t essential to reopen last July apparently. Really miss our weekend fun swims. It’s council run but out sourced to a leisure company. It’s not the best facility tbh, I sometimes think they are deliberately discouraging use so they can justify its closure.

Welshponyslave · 14/04/2021 20:44

I’m in Teesside and all our local pools are allowing family swimming. My husband took our DC on Monday and I am taking them Sunday, you need to get in early though to book a spot!

peak2021 · 14/04/2021 21:20

It may be costly but have you looked into hiring a private pool? Even as a one off it may be an enjoyable experience for your family.

OpheliasCrayon · 14/04/2021 21:28

Ours is open but it's booked up for the next couple of weeks. So I've booked for start of May
Ludicrous how long you have to wait to go for a damn swim but I suppose I should be thankful that our pool is doing family swims by the sound of it!

SuperCaliFragalistic · 14/04/2021 21:32

Our local pools all doing family sessions over the weekend. We're booked in for Sunday.

Wishitsnows · 14/04/2021 21:35

Ours are doing family swimming too now

YetAnotherWalk · 14/04/2021 21:40

We're going tomorrow!

CMOTDibbler · 14/04/2021 21:50

My local pool allow you to book a lane as a family for up to 6 people from your household. You have to phone them to do it, rather than online

PatMustardsBigTool · 14/04/2021 21:54

Our hotel-chain pool opened on Monday for family swim. Max 8 adults allowed with up to 3 children each per half hour session (must be booked). I heard there's a similar set up at our local council run pools so it seems like some places are doing things their own ways.

captainpantbeard · 14/04/2021 21:56

Our council pool was open from Monday 12th for lessons and family bookings. It is split into 8 (5m x 6m) sections and you can book one per family. Went today with DCs and it was bliss - like having your own private pool. Small but big enough to play and swim comfortably and no one else getting in your way! Changing cubicles allocated on arrival, all clean, and very little contact with other people - I hope they keep it like this tbh!

ChocOrange1 · 14/04/2021 22:33

Now. We have booked for Tuesday morning.

Watermelon1234 · 15/04/2021 16:57

Ours are similar to those mentioned above.

We can book a lane and take up to 6 household members for 40-45 mins.

It’s great as you have plenty of space and can swim up and down or play.

The worst thing is that it gets booked up quickly and I’m not the most organised at remembering!
