Psoriasis - Vaccine

ZoeBowie70 · 13/04/2021 13:07

Can I ask anyone with psoriasis what vaccine they had and if they had any reaction to their condition or anything else?
I’m not happy with the suggestion that the blood clots from AZ are an autoimmune response. My immune system is already overactive so I’m concerned how my body will react.

I have auto immune disease, my immune system is extremely over active, and had AZ. No side effects apart from sore arm.

Dementedswan · 13/04/2021 13:55

I have psoriasis and had my first AZ 6 weeks ago. No difference to my psoriasis, though my muscles were achy for a day or two after.

Boph · 13/04/2021 14:05

Also, covid causes havoc with the immune system so I'd rather my chances with any vaccine than covid.

My Dsis has severe psoriasis and injects herself monthly with methotrexate, she sought advice from her specialist and was told it didn't matter which vaccine she had. She was offered and took the Pfizer with no ill effects.

My dad has psoriasis and have AZ vaccine about 4 weeks ago. He has been fine. No side effects

candlemasbells · 13/04/2021 15:43

DP has psoriasis and had AZ with no after effects at all.

I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

I have had the first vaccine, although it was Pfizer for me.

However, I'd have happily had either vaccine. My consultant told me I'd be fine with either.

I was ill with covid itself 6 months ago and rushed to hospital with a very real risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots. I think people under estimate the risk of these things with covid itself, compared to the vaccines. And yes, covid itself plays havoc with your immune system too. I know and have felt the effects of this during and since my infection.

Psoriasis, mid 30s, AZ vaccine 2.5 weeks ago. Fever etc after - day in bed and a few days feeling a bit groggy. Period arrived a week early.

Won’t be having my second one as I distrust this vaccine now.

mnahmnah · 13/04/2021 16:00

DH has quite bad psoriasis and had the Pfizer (in his late 30s, due to asthma) and had a bad headache for a couple of days as well as a little lethargic. Otherwise fine.

The symptoms such as fever and aches are common and known side effects.

All the blood clots discovered happened after the first injection iirr.

My mum has psoriasis and had her second dose of the AZ vaccine at the weekend. No ill effects after either dose.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 13/04/2021 16:56

Psoriasis, anaphylaxis, and since getting vaccine have discovered I have a hereditary clotting disorder. I usually over-react to everything.

Had AZ with minimal side effects.

Peanutbutterfingers · 13/04/2021 17:21

I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, weekly methotrexate and crazy immune system. I had AZ 8 weeks ago, 1 day very drowsy, no other side effects. I was very worried about covid due to several hospitalizations from over enthusiastic immune system, easy decision for me, cried with relief when offered vaccine.

ZoeBowie70 · 13/04/2021 17:32

Thanks to all, such a relief to hear lots of positive comments. Obviously the blood clots make me nervous, plus how other countries are being so much more cautious than us. Can’t help but hear alarm bells ringing.
I definitely want a vaccine as I know the odds are worse without but hate the worry.

I'm another psoriasis/PsA on immunosuppressants and nsaids.

I had AZ. First jab I had no real reaction. second jab, I had a little bit of a joint flare for a couple of days and an achy arm, but it's all settled again. I'm so glad to have had the jab. Aside from the risk of covid itself, I know that other infections I've had in the past have flared my conditions badly.

Dementedswan · 13/04/2021 17:46

@OhYouBadBadKitten out of interest if you don't mind me asking? How did you find out you have psa? I have huge patches on knees and finding them painful, I've just been putting it down to an age thing so far but starting to wonder .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2021 18:02

It's worth seeing your GP Dementedswan. It's best to treat it before it does lasting damage. Although I have some damage in some joints, I also have other joints that get painful, but there's no evidence of damage in them.

Mine referred me to rheumatology after blood tests, for back pain - I have spondylopathy but also because I have severe raynauds, so it was clear something was going on. A relative of mine was diagnosed much later in life.

Dementedswan · 13/04/2021 18:43

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten thats interesting as I also have it on my lower back, scalp, nails and chest are affected. I was diagnosed with sciatica and with my knees starting I'm starting to wonder.

RedRosie · 13/04/2021 20:41

I have psoriasis and had the Pfizer about a month ago now. A colleague also has psoriasis and had the AZ at almost the same time. Just asked, and neither of us have seen any changes in the condition. We both had slightly different (but manageable) side effects and are fine now.

oftenanumpty · 13/04/2021 20:47

My husband has psoriasis and had Astra Zeneca about 6 weeks ago. He has shivers and flu symptoms for 24 hours but no impact on his psoriasis at all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2021 20:59

Demented, I'd definitely chat to your gp especially if you have nail changes.
I think PsA is under diagnosed and should be suspected in anyone with psoriasis and arthritis symptoms, especially with nail involvement and back issues.

IWishTheBishopWell · 15/04/2021 08:34

I have nail psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis but haven't had my vaccine yet (I'm not on any medication for my PsA as I was diagnosed a month ago but the Rheumatology clinic is shut due to Covid, so am not on any meds like MTX which might have bumped me into group 6).

DH has plaque psoriasis and has been worried about whether the vaccine will trigger a flare so good to hear others have had a positive experience.

LongTimeMammaBear · 15/04/2021 08:52

My DH has very bad psoriasis (currently doing second course of light therapy, which he put off until a few weeks after getting first jab as he was concerned about going 3x a week in to the hospital). We both had AZ vaccine. He did have flue like symptoms during the night of the day we had the vaccine. However, after taking paracetamol he was fine. I had nothing like that. We both had a bit of a sore spot at the one tip spot, which is to be expected.
