Annoying how much negativity towards vaccination there is on MN

Tonylepony · 13/04/2021 07:51

It’s actually verging on irresponsible that every other thread in this section is scaremongering about the coronavirus vaccination which basically is our only way out of this hell. If they’re not going on about the almost negligible chance of having a blood clot, there’s some other complaint about a random side effect. I know a lot of people in RL who’ve had the AZ and we’re on the over 40s here. Not one person has has anything worse than feeling tired the day after. We should be grateful for this jab and the negativity really needs to stop before the vaccination rollout is jeopardised.

Surely people are allowed to voice valid concerns?

MummyPop00 · 13/04/2021 07:56

Disagree with the OP

Valid concerns imo - it’s an evolving situation & governments including the UK have acted on them.

Not enough 2nd jabs yet/time elapsed since 1st jabs to be 100% sure about ‘minuscule risks’

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2021 07:57

Completely agree OP.

Mintjulia · 13/04/2021 07:58

Voicing any concerns is a reasonable thing to do. The worrying thing is the number of people who are so badly educated that they think listening to some random rumour is a more sensible approach than looking at the stats published by the world's medical regulators. And the number of people who can't compare risks.

It says more about our need to improve science education.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/04/2021 07:58

So irresponsible to have an opinion.

Roselilly36 · 13/04/2021 07:59

Equally much positivity too.

Good that there is a choice.

And I agree with PP, people should be allowed to ask questions, voice concerns without being subjected to spiteful comments, which always seems to happen on these types of threads.

Terracotta9 · 13/04/2021 08:00

The covid vaccines are new, so of course there is going to be more scrutiny of the symptoms they might produce.

It’s not scaremongering to discuss it.

Remmy123 · 13/04/2021 08:00

I don't like the way people are behaving towards those that do not want the vaccine YET. It's disgraceful how those people are being called selfish.

People are wel within their rights to be hesitant about a vaccine that is less than a year old!

NailsNeedDoing · 13/04/2021 08:02

It’s normal to discuss things surrounding the vaccine considering it’s such a big deal for everyone at the moment.

I find it equally annoying when people have your attitude to it as if it can only be a wonderful thing with no possibility of negative effects on anyone. It’s great that you don’t know anyone that has any difficult side effects after taking the vaccine, but that isn’t true for all of us.

Stickytreacle · 13/04/2021 08:03

I agree OP, it has become out of proportion. I've had my first AZ, I did experience side effects for a few days, but nothing unbearable and well worth it to help end the hell that the last year has been. The risks from actual covid are far worse.

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2021 08:04

I feel I have read more negativity on here than positivity about the vaccine. A few relevant worries and an awful lot of spurious reasons not to have it.
I've had the first one and had side effects but not enough to want to start a thread to dissuade others to which I think some people do.

Tonylepony · 13/04/2021 08:06

@Roselilly36
Equally much positivity too
Not seen any recently literally every other thread is negative.
@Mintjulia
The worrying thing is the number of people who are so badly educated that they think listening to some random rumour is a more sensible approach than looking at the stats published by the world's medical regulators
This is exactly what worries me.

Then the other threads are about how we’re going to have a third wave. Well yes we will if people are too petrified to be vaccinated/ have their 2nd jab.

OP posts:
HarrietOh · 13/04/2021 08:08

Disagree. People saying “oh well I was fine and so was everyone I know” doesn’t mean everyone is.

Tonylepony · 13/04/2021 08:10

@Remmy123 How long are you planning on waiting to decide whether to have the vaccination?

OP posts:
Remmy123 · 13/04/2021 08:13

The thing is - most people who get covid will get it mildly, reduction of transmission is still not confirmed as yet so I guess if you are 20's/30's/40's even, you probably would question the need for it esp as it is new and as there are countries stopping the AZjab for certain age groups now! There is nothing wrong with that.

Not everyone has been afraid of catching it.

Remmy123 · 13/04/2021 08:15

@Tonylepony hey I havent been called for it as yet but I guess I will in next few months.

Remmy123 · 13/04/2021 08:16

... also I didn't say I was not having it I'm just all for people chosing what they put in thier body without judgment!

Crispina · 13/04/2021 08:19

I was delighted to have my AZ vaccine, but wish they'd let us know whether it is effective against severe covid with the South African variant. It seems only 10% effective against mild and medium covid with the south African variant from the limited study they've done

MrsTophamHat · 13/04/2021 08:23

It's important that people rely on the large scale statistical evidence, rather than the anecdotes.

It stands to reason that people will start threads if they've felt off following the vaccination but on the large scale data can tell us whether these are coincidences and anomalies.

But while we're on anecdotal evidence, i know quite a lot of people who have had it now and none of them became ill as a result. Side effects they mentioned were some fatigue and a sore arm in the 24-48 hours after the injection. That's it.

Lindy2 · 13/04/2021 08:24

I agree with you OP.

I'm glad to see in the real world though people are just getting on and booking their vaccines. The benefits are clearly showing in the UK case and death figures.

The only place I see/hear so many conversations and dramas about the vaccine is on mumsnet.

HumunaHey · 13/04/2021 08:24

So you want everyone to think and feel exactly the same as you?

Alfaix · 13/04/2021 08:25

FWIW I’m a vaccinator and I did a shift yesterday. Everyone was happy and grateful to be there and no negativity at all. IRL everyone is desperate to get the vaccine, it’s just on here where I see people being very worried about tiny risks.

TheMarzipanDildo · 13/04/2021 08:25

I am mildly concerned about AZ blood clots because I am young, female and unlucky. So I’m having a different vaccine as per government advice. If I was older or didn’t have the choice I would have just had the AZ jab. Does this count as unreasonableness/scaremongering?

bumblingbovine49 · 13/04/2021 08:26

@ThursdayLastWeek

So irresponsible to have an opinion.
Yes when the opinion is not based on fact but irrational tests
bumblingbovine49 · 13/04/2021 08:27

Fears not tests!
