Annoying how much negativity towards vaccination there is on MN

It’s actually verging on irresponsible that every other thread in this section is scaremongering about the coronavirus vaccination which basically is our only way out of this hell. If they’re not going on about the almost negligible chance of having a blood clot, there’s some other complaint about a random side effect. I know a lot of people in RL who’ve had the AZ and we’re on the over 40s here. Not one person has has anything worse than feeling tired the day after. We should be grateful for this jab and the negativity really needs to stop before the vaccination rollout is jeopardised.

Of course you should question it @FloraFauna27, I don't think anyone would think that unreasonable. I hope your mum is OK now.

EKGEMS · 13/04/2021 13:07

News flash-I've been extremely ill for almost ten weeks after my second Pfizer vaccine. Tachycardia, fever, rash, fatigue, shortness of breath. Extremely high inflammatory markers, abnormal liver enzymes and thyroiditis. I'm on five cardiac Rx and still remain ill. I'm under care of five physicians. As a front line healthcare worker I jumped at the chance to be vaccinated and this happened. Just because you don't know anyone personally doesn't mean adverse events don't happen

Boph · 13/04/2021 14:03

MN does seem to be a feverish centre of angst about the vaccine.
People I know in real life are just grateful to get it. I haven't come across a single person young or old who isn't desperate to get it.
There is one solitary positive thread, the vaccine numbers one.

Flaxmeadow · 13/04/2021 14:10

I'm pro vaccine and very pro lockdown, as anyone who had read my past posts will tell you, but you cannot censure people for having concerns.

Comments accusing others of "scaremongering" were used on this site to shut posters up about covid over a year ago.

We can't have it both ways

pinkearedcow · 13/04/2021 14:23

There is a difference between rational debate about the AZ vaccine risks and benefits and deliberate scaremongering, though Flaxmeadow and there does seem to have been a lot of the latter over the past couple of weeks.

savethegrannies · 13/04/2021 14:24

Apologies MN if this post goes against rules and pls remove if so. But I genuinely wonder if government trolls are posting things like this to gauge sentiment around vaccines. I can see no other reason for it. I can also see no reason at all why people should not debate the merits or otherwise of a new drug which is still undergoing clinical trials (until 22 to 23 as I understand) and which, by necessity, was rushed into production.

It is very sad that someone with dementia is upset and doesn’t understand what’s going on (been there) but their distressed reaction is not a side effect. They might have a side effect which they are unable to articulate, but, for example, mil would scream if she had to be bathed, but having a bath is obviously not a dangerous thing per se.

btwwhichonespink · 13/04/2021 14:37

@savethegrannies there is a unit of the British Army called the 77th Brigade. One of their jobs is to counter 'misinformation' online and on social media. They are everywhere - forums, newspaper comments sections, Twitter - posing as ordinary people but they always have a definite agenda and a tone deaf approach to any challenge of their assertions.

btwwhichonespink · 13/04/2021 14:38
  • THE UK’s chief of the defence staff General Sir Nick Carter has revealed the secretive 77th Brigade of the British Army is involved in countering coronavirus misinformation online.

Speaking at today’s daily briefing, Carter said the unit, which was set up in 2015 to specialise "non-lethal" forms of psychological warfare and use the likes of Facebook and Twitter to “fight in the information age”, had been tackling false information about the pandemic on the web.

The brigade is 2000-people strong and has its headquarters near Newbury in Berkshire, where troops are expected to deliver “means of shaping behaviour through the use of dynamic narratives”. *

coconutmonkey · 13/04/2021 14:38

OP, how do you still see this as our only way out of this hell? Look around, whether vaccinated or not, people are still living with masks, social distancing, bubbles, testing of healthy people etc...
They aren't even dangling the carrot that vaccination is the way out anymore are they? We've had stories of "third waves", variants bypassing vaccination, needing to be rejabbed every 6 months, masks and distancing for years to come. Please don't kind yourself that if we all get our jab like good little boys and girls then life will return as we knew it.

Yes, it's so secretive that it has a webpage explaining what its functions are.

btwwhichonespink · 13/04/2021 14:48

@pinkearedcow my post was in stars as it was taken from a news article. They are not my words!

pinkearedcow · 13/04/2021 14:50

Could you link to the article, please?

pinkearedcow · 13/04/2021 14:58

Oh, don't worry @btwwhichonespink I have googled and there are numerous news artciles about this, so seems as though it's not some sort of big secret that this is happening.

I promise you I am not part of the 77th brigade, though!

MarshaBradyo · 13/04/2021 17:58

Agree

Tumbleweed101 · 13/04/2021 18:11

I'm in the group that can book a vaccine today. I have booked for next week. However I am still dithering about pros and cons. I will be doing a lot of research over the next week. I feel that I'm in the borderline age group in many ways.

However, whatever I end up doing. I think everyone has the right to choose what is best for them. I wouldn't want this to be mandatory or coerced by threat of vaccine passports for domestic use.

They may have a website but I'd be surprised what percentage of the UK population know about this.

Given there are numerous articles in the online mainstream press from 2015 onwards about the 77th Brigade, including recent articles about its covid-related activity, I'd say a fair percentage!

Xenia · 13/04/2021 19:05

I don't get that impression. Most people in the UK are pro the vaccine and only 4% in the UK over 60 who are white have not had it.

it is not right for me and I probably will not have it but I have certainly discouraged anyone. One reason we have such a high take up rate is it is voluntary so if you want it have it and if you don't don't.

Xenia · 13/04/2021 19:07

(White British I meant. For some reason Irish is 9% not had it in the UK )
