Summer weddings

Hi. My friend is due to get married on the 25th of June just a few days after restrictions are due to be lifted. I’m a bit concerned if it will actually go ahead as in with the planned numbers which is around 85 people apparently. Only the wedding itself won’t be cheap for us as we are staying over at the venue which is a swanky hotel, neither me or dh have outfits, husband needs a full new suit etc. I’m having my hair done especially and put up on the morning and then there’s the cost of the day itself eg drinks etc. I really want it to go ahead obviously and would be gutted if restrictions on numbers didn’t allow this but I’ll be slightly annoyed to if we can’t go and have bought all new clothes paid hair dressers paid for the hotel and arranged childcare etc. What do you think the chances are restrictions will be completely gone by June?

Nobody can say, but they’re supposed to be lifted by 21st June... and worst case would likely be that the guest limit of 30 remains, so it wouldn’t be totally cancelled.

You’ll know three weeks before, for sure, when the government makes its announcement. If 17th May update goes as planned, I think it stands a good chance of going ahead.

Given how well things have been going - assuming that continues, which will depend to some extent on continued vaccine supply and take-up, then I think it's quite possible that the event will be allowed to go ahead, although I would expect SOME measures will remain in place for events with a certain number present.

That said, it's quite a gamble planning an event this soon after the EARLIEST date restrictions could be lifted.

SIL is planning a huge 200 guest wedding in August and I think she's got her head in the clouds about that to be honest, so who knows what will be happening in June.

We're planning ours for mid July and it's so difficult trying to anticipate what's to come.
