Lateral flow test?

Ds has woken this morning with a hacking cough. His nose is streaming. He has lost his smell but can still taste. No temperature at all. If Covid wasn’t a thing I would just put it down to a cold.

He has done his lateral flow test this morning (school issued) and this is negative. Do I need to book him in for a test too or is the lateral flow test enough?

He had symptoms so yes to going for a test.

No, lateral flow test isn't enough, he needs a PCR test

LFTs are for asymptomatic testing and in truth are very unreliable. As your DS is displaying some symptoms you need to get a PCR.

Hopefully just a cold, wishing him a speedy recovery.

You need to book a pcr test because he has symptoms. A cough and loss of smell is a symptom and isolate until got results.
When I got Covid I loss smell but could still taste had a cough but no temperature.

I’d say PCR too, based on the loss of smell alone.

Hope he’s ok.
