Different size boxes for lateral flow tests

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 11:53

Just received our weekly packs for myself and partner and each box is a different size. Surely they’re meant to be exactly the same? They also have a label stating they’ve been made in China.

I think it’s general paranoia but this makes me feel nervous.

Has anybody else had this?

Why is it making you feel nervous? Confused

Howshouldibehave · 10/04/2021 11:56

What do you mean?

My DC have them from school and they come in boxes of 3. The ones I get from work come in boxes of 7. They are still the same old (crap) LFD tests.

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 11:58

One of the boxes is about 2 inches smaller than the other. It makes me paranoid that it’s not an official one or it’s been tampered with!

I realise I may sound neurotic but it’s odd and these are certainly odd times.

The ones I get from work are big boxes that are green and white, with a bottle of solution instead of the little sachets that DD gets from school in a small blue box. It never occurred to me to feel nervous about that Confused

EileenGC · 10/04/2021 12:01

My workplace only distributes one brand. Last week they came in a pack of 5 and yesterday the box was double the size but much thinner and only had 1 test in it. What’s to find odd about that?

They’re also made in China, same as the masks we have to wear and my phone and countless other objects we use daily. What does have China to do with these tests? I don’t understand.

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 12:01

I suppose I remember those morons that accidentally tested people with used swabs and it made me think of that!

OP posts:
Judyisapunkrocker · 10/04/2021 12:03

School supplied tests were in a long thin box pack of 3. Boxes I picked up from the local test centre were packs of 7 and squarer. Both were made in China.

I’m pretty sure used swabs won’t come in what I suppose is a sealed package inside a sealed (or at least closed) box?

I still don’t understand the correlation between used swabs and size boxes or made in China labels?

CosmicComfort · 10/04/2021 12:05

Different brands, different sized boxes🤷‍♀️

I get them in packs of 25 from work, dses came in boxes of 3. No big deal.

customwatkins · 10/04/2021 12:05

Yes, they do come in different size sealed boxes and yes, they are made in China.

starsinyourpies · 10/04/2021 12:06

Presumably there is more than one supplier! Or do you think there's one little factory making enough for the whole country?

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/04/2021 12:07

Don’t use the swabs if they aren’t sealed...

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 10/04/2021 12:09

Maybe ones a man size swab for man size noses like man size tissues!

I AM JOKING OBVIOUSLY

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 12:10

To be clear, the boxes are identical except for the fact that one is about 2 inches wider than the other. It hardly screams professionalism and that’s why it makes me nervous.

I would have thought these things go through some form of QC and would therefore all be the same size.

I don’t care that they’re different sizes of course, so long as they’re safe and effective.

OP posts:
itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 12:12

We get boxes of 7.

The newer boxes all have different swab types to the original ones.

All made in China.

If it's the official nhs box and sealed and the cane in same package what makes you think ones a fake?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 10/04/2021 12:13

Getting tests to people is so important. Dont you remember all the threads in september when people were desperate for testing.
And here we are in april and you are moaning that the quality control of the outside boxes is lacking.
I'm not really sure what it is you want?
Maybe write to your MP about such a concern

Good summary

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 12:16

I don’t give a shit that the sizing is different - obviously! I give a shit about whether these are legitimate tests as it seems unusual.

OP posts:
ProfessorInkling · 10/04/2021 12:26

Legitimate tests? Have you been reading too much Facebook OP?

Doireallyneedaname · 10/04/2021 12:30

@ProfessorInkling Highly likely. Like I said, I know it sounds neurotic.

I’m just curious if others have had this experience too.

Same here. OP it's only a box.

Have you considering taking up a relaxing hobby?

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/04/2021 12:34

I know they are necessary but all the plastic waste really bothers me. Someone is also getting incredibly rich off all it all.

It drives my grandad crazy that they are made in China “when China started it all” Hmm

Why are you nervous over a box being a different size. They will be using multiple companies to print the boxes, each company will have own size boxes. As for being made in China, look around your house, pretty much everything will be made in China. You won't get covid just because something shipped from their
chrisrobin · 10/04/2021 12:39

Is it like this OP? The big box contains 7 tests and the little one 3
