Which covid vaccination

Wondering where my dd stands on the covid vaccination when it's her turn for the vaccine.
She has severe allergies so can not have the pfizer vaccine but she is also under 30 so by the looks of it can't have the astrazenica vaccine either.
No idea if she will be offered any vaccine now.
Anyone else in similar situation x

Do your DD's allergies also prevent her from having the Moderna vaccine?

RoseWineTime · 10/04/2021 00:02

What are her severe allergies to? I thought it only mattered if the allergies were to the vaccine ingredients?
With regard to AZ - she could have that as it’s not banned for her age group just recommended for an alternative if one is available.

Osirus · 10/04/2021 01:34

She can have the AZ one if nothing else available/suitable.

Bati · 10/04/2021 14:04

She has allergies to numerous things including some medicines. No idea what ingredients are in the pfizer.
She was due to go into hospital for controlled allergy testing due to her allergies becoming more severe and the fact she seems to be reacting to more and more things but this has been cancelled due to covid.
No idea about the moderna vaccine x

She absolutely can have the AstraZeneca vaccine/ it's just that her age group are being alternatives if they so wish- I think this is a risk/benefit thing because obviously her risk of coronavirus is a lot lower than older people, the risk of the vaccine (whilst still tiny and probably still smaller than coronavirus) is a bigger consideration than for a 50 yr old for example, whose risk of coronavirus is far far greater than the risk of a vaccine.

My dad is in his 60s so a lot older but he was advised very early on that because he is allergic to ibuprofen he should have the AZ vaccine and not Pfizer.

It would probably be worth her speaking to her GP about what the best option for her is?

Theredjellybean · 10/04/2021 14:16

The only contra indication to Pfizer is proven anaphylaxis to ingredients of vaccine.

MadMadMadamMim · 10/04/2021 14:24

Both my DDs are nurses in their mid 20s.

Both were given the AZ vaccine. I don't think they were offered any alternative. That was just the one they got.

I think your DD should discuss this with a medical professional rather than you ask random people on the internet.

Theredjellybean · 10/04/2021 14:31

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind
The advise not to have Pfizer if your allergic to ibuprofen changed in about the second week of January

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 10/04/2021 14:35

Ah right @Theredjellybean, yeah I think he discussed this with his dr before January.

There you go OP- that's exactly why she needs to ask her GP and not us lot on Mumsnet 😂

MRex · 10/04/2021 14:47

She should alsk her GP which one is suitable. MHRA gave an approximate risk from the AZ vaccine for her age group as 11 per million got blood clots and 3 of the million died. Now people know the symptoms you'd expect the death rate to drop too. These are tiny risks, lower than for many standard medications in use.

Yes me I have so many serious allergies that I can't have any of them and so have a blood clotting disorder so can't have that one (it's one of the few things listed as being a reason to not have it if you're over 30). So I can't have any. Doesn't bother me this said, I've had covid and it did nothing of anything to me but I feel bad bevsuee I work with vulnerable children so I would desperately like to be able to have it for that reason. But I can't.
