Why under 30s

I'm perplexed why the Oxford vaccine won't be given to anyone under the age of 30. Have I missed something in the announcements?

Were those who died from the blood clot under the age of 30?

Surely there were case among the older age groups where people have died from blot clots.

Wouldn't it make more sence give the alternate vaccine to those who have a history or a family history of blood clots.

The risk benefit for under 30s is less clear it which is why it is the cut off. The type of blood clot caused - CVST with low platelets doesn’t appear to be associated with a history of blood clotting and may be a very rare immune response to the vaccine.

Rare side effect in people who might die of the virus = worth the risk. Rare side effect in people who rarely die of the virus = not worth it.

Because if you're under 30 your risk from covid is so low, that being killed by the vaccine is more likely than bring killed by covid.

This might help you understand OP. Under 30 the vaccine risk becomes slightly higher than the risk of ending up in ICU with Covid-19.

I love a good graph @alakdidndksk

RoseWineTime · 08/04/2021 21:03

The graph above is during times of low exposure to covid. The risk benefit shifts strongly in favour of vaccination with AZ for the under 30s in times of medium to high risk of exposure to covid.

PicsInRed · 08/04/2021 21:08

That graph needs to be done separately for men vs women (by age), as well. We need to know how great the benefit is to WOMEN in vaccination vs covid.

What about if you’re 31?! I’m 31 and I’m not happy about having it.
