Just thought I’d share this here for any Mumsnetters who are interested. Personally I’ve had to take a break from the news for a while, but listened to this David Aaronovitch’s podcast about covid around the world and found it really interesting.

Ooh thank you for sharing this - I follow the worldwide situation a bit more than the UK one because it's quite difficult to sift through the media hysteria here. And the global perspective appears to be more balanced overall.
I'd also recommend Osterholm Update Covid-19 podcast; although centred on the American developments, it gives a very professional opinion on major worldwide issues as well.

Yes, exactly. Hysteria is the word. Either we’re all doomed or we’re blowing smoke up our arses for our vaccination rate. I found it very balanced, but David Aaronovitch often is.

Osterholm is a very level headed guy and his weekly podcast has been running fir a year now. He's very good at acknowledging what he doesn't know which I like and as a side fact he's become part of Biden's anti Covid taskforce.
Gimlet Science Vs is another one with short episodes with a fun spin at times and easy to digest.
The opposite is TWiV very sciency and long weekly episodes but I stuck with it and got used to the language and rythm. Good company when ironing clothes. They also have a short weekly one as well for a Covid update.
Prognosis is an American news podcast I dip in and out of but most major news channels around the world would have similar podcasts. I never know which ones are good so I try to look for factual programmes.
