Second doses

Does anyone know about second doses?

My elderly parents had the pfizer vaccine 11 weeks ago today and have heard nothing about their second dose. They were told they’d be contacted for their second dose but surely they need to have it in the next week ideally?

They were phoned up and offered appointments for their first jabs. I think via their GP but vaccines were done at a local hub where patients from several surgeries are all receiving their jabs in one place.

Can you try and book them on the NHS site?

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 06/04/2021 22:35

No. I’d never even heard of that until recently. What happens if I try and it won’t let me?

Maybe try their GP? Or try calling 119 and explain to them.

Dad's (88) GP phoned on week 10 booking appt for week 11.

Rockbird · 06/04/2021 23:09

Mine are in the same position and I just have to keep nagging them to call the GP every day. I can't book them on the national site and their time is running out. They're 12 weeks this coming weekend.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 06/04/2021 23:11

Either call the GP to find our who is booking in their 2nd doses or call 119

EvilOnion · 06/04/2021 23:18

I had to call or vaccination centre direct through the NHS line to book my second appointment within 7 days of getting my first dose.

My slot was a cancellation through work though so not sure if it's different for vulnerable groups.

My parents just got their appointment for second dose from GP. It is slightly over the 12 weeks. I’d been bugging them to ring the surgery but they wouldn’t as they’d been told appointment would be arranged for them.

Literallynoidea · 07/04/2021 05:55

You need to call their GP ASAP. This sounds like an oversight.

My parents were due their second Pfizer next week (11 week gap) but got called by GP a week earlier so are now done. I would call up.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 07/04/2021 08:05

Thanks everyone. They ended up getting a phone call late yesterday evening and are booked in later this week.

Yeah they seem to be leaving it til the last minute
I'm waiting for my 2nd appt from the GP
Glad they have theirs booked

Many 2nd dose people are being called in early at the moment. They are concerned about future supply and trying to get ahead with them rather than rolling out with more 1st doses.

The recommendation is to be done between 77 days and 84 days which is 11-12 weeks but advice this week is to jab people any time after 8 weeks if there is supply.

If 11 weeks have passed definitely call the GP. GPs book using their own systems and not the national service. Your parent can ring or you can call on their behalf.

Yes, GPs need to make sure they aren’t constantly phoned by all of the public chasing their vaccine, but there is no problem ringing to ensure your vaccine happens in the right window if you haven’t heard by this point. Call today if you haven’t already.

People don’t want to be a nuisance, but too many people fail to ring to book when they are in eligible groups or are close to the limit for time with the 2nd jab. Yes, wait to hear.....to a point. And if you don’t, make contact yourself. It’s fine and right.

My Mum had a letter for her first vaccine, the second she had a phone call with 22 hours notice - they were only giving time slots the next afternoon, so you accepted or refused. Shouldn't be too long before they hear if that's how they're operating in your parents area.

WombatChocolate · 07/04/2021 11:00

Sorry Op, just saw your parents have had the call. That’s good.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 07/04/2021 11:40

Thanks @WombatChocolate
