I have a cold.

First cold in a long time. Dd and DS were snotty end of last week which only lasted a couple days and quickly went. Dp is also feeling like he has a minor cold and so do I!

I mean after both kids were snotty and dp too it’s pretty obvious I have a cold. None of us have had fevers, coughs or change of smell or taste. I assume if it was covid at least one of us would have one of the main symptoms.

But I have a sense of guilt. What if actually have covid?! Sounds daft. But read so much on people testing positive with cold symptoms.

I have an insanely itchy feeling in my throat and ears. I am bunged up and sneezy and my eyes feel all heavy. Insane sinus pain - I have sinus issues so sinus pain is very common for me anyway cold or not. No fever, no cough (never get coughs with colds, I’m quite lucky). I can smell fine for now. Hoping my bunged up nose won’t affect my smell.

I’m not planning to go out anywhere. We are just staying at home watching films until I’m
better? Dp has only had a slight snotty nose and is fine now. He doesn’t seem to catch full blown colds!

I feel just meh. Up and about doing housework etc but my energy levels are dropping throughout the day!

Or should I get a test? With all 4 of us having had cold symptoms and no official covid symptoms between us it does seem likely it’s a cold!

If I were you, I would get a test for all of you. Chances are you will get test today and have result tomorrow either way.

Beeme29 · 06/04/2021 14:21

Dc are well over it now so likely too late to test. Dd was snotty Wednesday - Thursday and DS Thursday - Saturday! It really was just a runny nose. I thought it was hayfever but probably a cold as we have caught it. Dp is at work. His work won’t allow him time off for cold symptoms and his have been very mild 😒 I’ll see what I’m like tomorrow! I’ll be pissed it is is covid after being vaccinated. I know you can catch it regardless!

If it is a mild, cold symptoms, version of Covid don't you want to know?

Beeme29 · 06/04/2021 14:31

I have been tested 3 times recently due to smell and taste issues - all negative and all due to long term sinus issue as mentioned in op but thankfully my smell and taste are heightened with this cold - I haven’t stopped eating either 😂 Right now I feel like I can’t face another test! It does feel like any other cold I’ve had before. But as I said above I’ll see what I’m like tomorrow! You’d think if it was covid at least one of us would have an official symptom though? None of us have had a cough, fever or change of smell and taste!

Dp’s work will not let anyone isolate with cold symptoms either and told to come in (I I know you could lie about symptoms) He’s under so much pressure to go in all the time! 😒

We had snotty noses here as well. Dd has has been snotty for several days. Dh felt rough for a day. I and ds have been fine. We didn't test because no key symptoms.

OpheliasCrayon · 06/04/2021 14:32

We have colds. Haven't tested. Why would you?

HelgaGPataki · 06/04/2021 14:32

My main symptom when I had COVID was an awful sinus headache and feeling tired. I didn't have any of the main three until much later - and even then I only lost my sense of taste and smell for two days.
My 9 year old had a stomach ache and my husband had what seemed like a cold, so you just never know. I'd get a test just to make sure, they're usually pretty quick and come back within a couple of days.

Sadly if I got a test every time I got a sinus pain or headache I would have to give up work and camp down the test centre. 😒 ongoing sinus issues and under hospital care for it but haven’t really got an app yet due to covid... I have severe sinus headaches about 3-4 times a week!

We have the snots here too! Dc2 caught from dc1’s germy primary school.

Unfortunately DC2 now has a chesty cough...yayyy, Easter holidays!

You should have lateral flow tests so you can test yourself? If not get some sent to you!

anniegun · 06/04/2021 15:00

Just get a test, it is not hard!

RedMarauder · 06/04/2021 15:02

@AgnesNaismith lateral flow tests are to use if you are asymptomatic

The OP has possible symptoms so needs a PCR test.

I had a cold last month and as I use the Zoe App ended up getting two PCR tests. Both came back negative. The first one I got the result that evening. The second one the late the next morning.

ThatOtherPoster · 06/04/2021 15:04

DH has a cold. I made him do a test despite his insisting it was just a cold.

It was just a cold.

Northernsoullover · 06/04/2021 15:07

Why have you posted then? I can't tell you if its just a cold

Beeme29 · 06/04/2021 15:11

I know it’s not hard. We’ve have had our share of covid tests and all have been negative.

I posted as wasn’t sure what people are doing with colds - it’s been so long since I’ve had a cold!

I haven’t got any of the official symptoms you should test for but just feeling a bit poop!

Just curious to know what others are doing with cold symptoms especially if all the household has the same symptoms 😊

AgnesNaismith · 06/04/2021 15:11

Yes makes sense @RedMarauder but if LF doesn’t pick up symptomatic what is the use?

SaigonSaigon · 06/04/2021 15:16

I've not had a cold this winter yet but you could always ring 119 to double check latest advice for piece of mind.

SaigonSaigon · 06/04/2021 15:16

Meant to add, I do know plenty of people who had Covid with just a cold or runny nose, but equally, plenty who just had a cold!

Fishies · 06/04/2021 15:21

Hello we are in the same boat also, all 4 of us currently have a cold no coughs no temps no change of smell. If its any consolation to you, I spoke to 119 yesterday to book some tests and they refused said we didn't need to as we don't have the general symptons . We already do lateral flow tests and they asked us to do them instead which were negative I was told if we had covid it will show regardless on the test and then we would just need to confirm it with a pcr test.
We also are part of the ONS RESEARCH STUDY and they came round to test us yesterday also coincidently and even they told us we don't need to isolate or get tested at the center because we don't have the general symptons. I personally would advise you to go down the lateral flow test route

Beeme29 · 06/04/2021 15:25

Thanks all. It’s so hard. I don’t have any official symptoms you need testing for but so many people have reported cold symptoms with covid. Yet dp is told he cannot stay at home and isolate and had to go in with cold symptoms. Similar with DC’s school. They are primary age and parents are encouraged to send their kids if they have mild colds. Dd went in for 2 days last week with a runny nose and DS the last day before Easter with a runny nose. Half of DD’s class had snotty noses! I’m hoping I’ll feel better by tomorrow if not I’ll book a test. I’m not putting anyone at risk by waiting. I’m off work currently and it’s the aster holiday. We are only spending time at home or in the garden anyway. Dp is at work because he feels like he has to be!

Get the test. Better safe than sorry.
HelgaGPataki · 06/04/2021 15:27

Ah fair enough, if you regularly have sinus issues then yes I'd be less inclined to test! Just thought I'd mention it as it really was my only symptom! Smile

islockdownoveryet · 06/04/2021 15:35

Yes you are right cold symptoms can be Covid or just a cold . Do you feel extra fatigued any breathlessness? If it was me and just a runny nose feeling off I’d order a lateral test to do and isolate till then . ( that’s what I’ve done ) If it’s negative it’s probably a cold but the extra symptoms may start . If you start getting the symptoms definitely then book a pcr test .

RedMarauder · 06/04/2021 15:48

islockdownoveryet if you have sinus problems then it's impossible to say if you feel extra fatigued or breathlessness as sinus problems cause these and the symptoms fluctuate....

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 06/04/2021 15:51

DD’s primary school have issued us with a list of secondary symptoms which include runny nose, cold like symptoms, upset tummy and headache. We’ve been told to seek a PCR test for all of them.

Tangledtresses · 06/04/2021 15:57

My kids have all had colds over the last two weeks all lateral flow tests are negative 😅

It's gone round school like wild fire so yey we're back to normal viruses 😀
