Second Phizer jab appointment

I had the jab in February. Friends and family who have had their first jab (Astr Z) were given their second appointment at the time of their first jab but I wasn’t. Is that because it’s Phizer? Worried that I don’t have a second appointment.

No, I don't have a second appt for my AZ either. I understand if you got it via your GP, they'll call you closer to the date. Not sure if that applies to you too?

Yellowmellow2 · 06/04/2021 09:28

Thanks. Yes, I did get it via my GP.

It depends on the booking system.

Some make the second appointment at the time of the first. Others re-open a booking link at about the 10 week point.

If arranged via your GP, you can ring them to ask, but I wouldn't bother them until over 9 weeks since the first.

Most people I know who had the Pfizer were given the three week gap 2nd appointment that was then cancelled.

They were worried they would then be forgotten but each one was contacted at 10 or 11 weeks to book their 2nd jab.

I got my second appointment for Pfizer at the same time as my jab, but that was at a big vax centre so it might be a different process via GP. Best to call them and ask.

I got my 2nd Pfizer appointment at the same time I booked the first one online . DH got the AZ at the Gp and hasn't got a 2nd appointment yet.

GP surgery have made it very clear that you mustn’t call them to ask about the vaccine!

I had my pfiezer end of jan. Was given my appointment for second then and there. It's next week.

Probably more to do with what your of place you had it and how they run they're programme?

If first vaccine was arranged by GP, usually the second appointment is arranged nearer the time, also by the GP.
From Feb onwards I think all Pfizer as done by GPs or GP hubs only, so you will likely be contacted by your GP for the second dose.
If you haven't heard anything by 11 weeks, it will be OK to check with the GP surgery that everything is OK. They won't mind calls about genuine potential problems.
FWIW, you might find you are contacted directly by the GP or GP hub much sooner than 12 weeks because they are only allowed to do second vaccines right now and they can't waste any and there may well be spare capacity. These second dose appointments are often at short notice and not everyone can make them, so they are calling people in much earlier than planned.

No need to worry - I had mine in Jan and no second apt at the time. Last week I was contacted by my GP and mine is booked for Saturday, which is 11 weeks after the first. They all seem very efficient.

Mindymomo · 06/04/2021 14:30

We get weekly updates from GP facebook. DH had Pfizer mid February and was told he would be contacted by GP or vaccine centre when his 2nd would be.

Lurkingforawhile · 07/04/2021 15:27

Should have also said - our surgery has been brilliant about keeping people update on Facebook. Posted a couple of weeks ago to say who they would be contacting and when.
